Did a road trip here and I really enjoyed myself! The wife and I walked and ate and talked and walked and ate. Okay, you get the picture, lol. We had a very enjoyable day. We played a few games and I even won her a stuffed animal. Probably could have bought her one cheaper, but that's not the point is it. The weather was good. Even seen a pageant. I can see coming back their again next year!

So many BBQ stands to choose from. Your best bet is to sample all of them and then choose which ones are the best. If you wanted to sample all of the stands, they were offering 2 bones for $5. There was probably around 10 to 15 stands, so if you think you can eat that much, then go for it. There were a few rides for the children, which was very entertaining, along with a few vendor booths. The best two other booths was the fresh squeeze lemonade booth, along with the Elephant Ear booth. So once you received a plate full of ribs as well as BBQ chicken or Brisket, and your typical BBQ sides, you have to get the dessert! The weather was perfect that day we went, we spend most of the day there with a few of our Seniors that we brought with us, but most of all it was great just walking around, eating good BBQ and enjoying the festival. There was music playing as well as their annual Beauty pageant, three different age groups from five years to teenagers, which was so cute to see all the beautiful little winners.

I am addicted to this festival! So much fun to spend a few days at!…read more First of all, you must go with other people to really enjoy it....invite your family, friends, coworkers. Second, get crazy - wear some lederhosen or a drindl. Buy a hat or a flower headband. Buy a fun Oktoberfest tshirt to wear. Get in the spirit! Third, if you love beer, try it all! There's also wine and spirits around the festival for purchase, but beer is really what everyone drinks. Not only are there Oktoberfest beers, such as Paulaner and Hacker Pschorr, but many local craft beers. Fourth, go early and have a Bahama Mama from Schmidt's in Columbus for lunch. If you're still hungry, have a giant cream puff or strudel for dessert. Fifth, watch the Weiner races, enjoy some traditional dancers, walk through the vendors area of crafts and German imports, watch a sand sculpture being made right in front of your eyes, get a picture taken with Krampus and crew, watch the Strongman competition. Sixth, go to the Glockenspiel as many times as you can and dance & sing your heart out! Seventh, grab some Authentic German grub for dinner and park yourself in a bier tent to watch some great entertainment. I highly suggest a plate from Das Schnitzel Haus, some pierogi's from the Pierogi Lady, sauerkraut balls from Hey Hey or a pretzel-wrapped bratwurst. Eighth, make sure you're still drinking beer and take some sips of water in between - you'll appreciate that in the morning. Ninth, grab a partner and get on the dance floor for the chicken dance and some polka! It doesn't matter if you don't know how to polka, you'll pick it quickly or someone will teach you. The Chardon Polka Band, Alex Meixner and Klabetheads are all my favorites! Tenth, take lots of pictures to memorialize this great event! And lastly, get an Uber or have a designated driver to take you home!

Countless trends have come and gone over the past century. Failure to recognize that there is no…read moreone homogenous group called white people tore apart cultural neighborhoods. New generations turn backs on the traditions that defined this city. No official recognition or PR efforts have been directed toward the Eastern European immigrant soul of Cleveland. But that soul survives. It is the churches and ethnic organizations that pass on the traditions of the muscle that created the wealth of art, industry, sports, parks and identity called Cleveland. For one day every year the Scouts recreate a neighborhood where Hungarian is spoken, bands play folk music and rhapsodies, and dancers entertain. Hungarian cuisine differentiates itself from all others in that much of it is prepared outside over open fires. After all goulash was beef cooked by cowboys in lard flavored by chilies. In Texas the same is called chili. On the grounds of the German Central Park volunteers prepare chimney cake, pork steak sandwiches, grilled kolbasz, palacsinta and the fried bread called langos. Most likely the beer garden is overflowing when the Irish or Germans hold their events but Hungary is a coffee society so the cafe is favored for pastry with strong coffee. In the restaurant the home cooked paprikas, stuffed cabbage, and sausage is endlessly served. A mass is held as well as a Protestant service. The parking lot is filled to the overflow lot across the street as Hungarians and guests come from all over the region. Like all Eastern Europeans, Hungarians are self sufficient, proud and loyal. We like life as Hungarian Americans living in the Great Lakes. Our culture endures thanks to organizations such as the Hungarian Scouts. Our influence remains whether at a stall in the West Side Market, a small restaurant in Avon, St. Emeric's defying the bishop, or the haunting music of Cleveland's Harmonia band. We are still around.
