Cool "dog" themed park located nearby the Cathedral of St. James and the St. James Market. Park bench seating surrounds the fountain for a relaxing view.

This wedge of an urban oasis is a downtown Toronto charmer if only for the elaborate two-tier fountain festooned with 27 cast-iron dogs shooting water from their mouths (photo: http://bit.ly/2NBZ4nE). But wouldn't it be more accurate to have it shooting from between their hind legs? I guess a National Geographic approach would prevent it from doubling as a water fountain for the kiddies. As you consider that, you can enjoy the huge trompe l'oeil mural on the adjacent Gooderham building (photo: http://bit.ly/32c8qtC) or the two hands reaching out Carrie-style from the ground (photo: http://bit.ly/2NyYlU1). It's worth sitting a spell as you think about what your next Toronto destination will be. RELATED - Traveling to Toronto? Berczy Park is a small triangle-shaped park in downtown Toronto Ontario beside the heritage-designated Gooderham Building. I love the two-tier fountain that features statutes of 27 dogs and a lone cat. There is plenty of bench seating if you just want to relax or be entertained by a busker.

Downtown and right near the Hockey Hall of Fame, this small park features a beautiful fountain and what... are those... DOGS??? Yes, the water is being fed back into the central fountain from the mouths of two dozen doggies. It's super cute! Otherwise, the park features trees, some small grass hills and a bunch of benches. It's very cute. [Review 10980 overall, 752 of 2019.]

We just happened to stumble upon this beautiful, small park while walking around downtown Toronto. There's plenty of trees and sitting areas. What makes Berczy Park unique are the dog fountain and the large mural art located on the west and east ends of the park, respectively. The dog fountain was designed by Canadian architect, Claude Cormier. He made 27 cast iron dog statues spread around the fountain all looking up at a bone at the very top of the fountain. All of the dog statues were spraying water up towards the fountain. There was one lone cast iron cat statue sitting on the bottom of the fountain looking towards two small bird statues. The Flatiron Mural on the east end of this park was designed by Canadian artist, Derek Michael Besant. This mural was on the back wall of the Gooderham Building, aka the Flatiron building. It's made to look like there were more windows than there really were, and that the wall itself would fly away. Overall, we really enjoyed taking in the history and culture of this park. This is definitely a gem in downtown Toronto to visit.

So I was strolling on the street heading towards St. Lawrence Market.....What the---a fountain of dogs??? Pit stop time! Such a cute and unique fountain. The park as a whole seems to be well-kept also. I can definitely imagine people eating some of their St. Lawrence Market goodies here as the market is pretty close by. I would've done that, but was on a tourist time crunch haha. Glad I stopped by though!

Beautiful fountain!, I was kinda hoping it would be in a more secluded area with more grass and flowers but this is okay too. Its located in the middle of busy streets full of cars. I was thinking it would be more of a dog park but there was only one real dog i saw on the small mounds of grass there. Each dog statue on the outside ring of the fountain is a larger breed, the inner circle has pugs alternating from male and female (yes i checked, not on purpose!! but i like how intricate they are). You can sit on the statues and take pictures. Surrounded by little shops and restaurants this is a very cute spot. With artwork on the sides of the buildings it is a must see.

If you are a dog lover or simply enjoy spending quality time in an interesting park with an unusual fountain this is your place. The multi-tiered fountain is made up of a variety of various colored dog breed statues each spewing water toward the fountain's center. This is a great place for children to cool off from the summer's heat. There are various shade trees and plantings throughout the quadrant with numerous places to sit and ruminate.

Berczy Park is located in downtown Toronto between Front and Wellington with Scott street to the west and behind the Gooderham Building (aka Flatiron) on the east side. If you visit enough cities on this continent you may notice that Toronto is seemingly lacking in parks when compared to other large cities like New York or Chicago. I mean sure we have our share of parks large and small but not in the central business district, downtown, core or whatever else you want to call it by any other name. Berczy Park which I had to look up was opened back in 1980 which is a while back sure but it recently underwent a renovation that lasted almost 2 years and only recently opened up this past summer. The most noticable thing about Berczy Park is the park's centerpiece which is no doubt the 3 level fountain surrounded by a pattered plaza which has jets of water coming from the mouths of sculptures of dogs with a bone at the top tier of the fountain. While the fountain is much smaller than Buckingham fountain and doesn't spray straight into the air at any sort of immeasurable height, the dogs keep this fountain unique, distinct and amusingly different. While the west side of Front has some older looking building fronts, looking more west you'll see the backdrop of the newer, glassier Toronto with many of the newer high rise buildings and cityscape taking place. Being behind an era archictural Toronto landmark (Gooderham) to the new improvements of the park to the small hill on the west side of the park and patch of green, Berczy Park has a bit of everything in one small trapezoid that makes up Toronto that being the old, the new and the future all in one with a side of cute dogs. This newer version of Berzcy Park brings a level of "new" and is funny and fresh and I like it. I'm happy to see Toronto starting to put more into what makes the city more aesthetic since the city has changed and grown so much in the past 3 decades. This is a step in the right direction.

Also you can see a very beautiful but 3D mural art facing the park (or on the Gooderham Building facing the park side).

Visiting a cemetery is not something I do for fun pre-COVID, but I'm glad I went there for a walk for once. Many tombstones from ages ago are wearing away, and I'm wondering whether their descendants still visit them. You can walk along a path with flat-to-the-ground headstones flanking either side into an area shaded by trees. I also saw Jack Layton's monument, with a headstone sculpture of his face. I see people have left some flowers recently. Super cool as I did not know his gravesite is there! Riverdale Farm was closed when I was there, but I could still peek at the farm animals outside the gate. I was there just after they announced on the news that someone stole Juniper, the baby goat! I believe I saw mama and the siblings there? The gates are not high... so I can see how a rascal can jump the fence and take a goat. Like who does that?! Cemetery and a park walk are not the first things that come to mind, but it reminds me that when I open my mind to unique experiences, I'm most of the time pleasantly rewarded.
