Amazing experience!…read more I made a day trip to Rotterdam this past weekend, and the highlight of the trip was dinner at Uit Je Eigen Stad, which translates to 'From your own city'. They mean it. Situation on a little farm at the edge of the city, you would not expect to find some of the best food here, but that's exactly what you get here. The interior is very 'gezzellig', and it is a lot of fun to experience the food being cooked right in front of you. The menu isn't fixed, which means you are only served the freshest stuff possible. I really liked the 'service with a smile' attitude of the staff. Our meal consisted of fresh bread, delicious soup, and a very tasty pumpkin risotto, which was followed up by a really delicious dessert that I had no space left for. Tip: Call them up before hand to get the name of the tram stop right in front of the farm, as they have their own private entrance near it that doesn't show up on any maps service. All in all, a wonderful restaurant where I wouldn't mind spending the entire day.

Lets pretend it is summer shall we?! The sun is shining and you feel like riding your bike. But…read morehang on.. the cycling made you thirsty and now you fancy a bite to eat. If you are heading in the right direction you will find Rotterdam's biggest urban farm UIT JE EIGEN STAD. Pretty fabulous this place; a green oasis in a raw, industrial part of the city. Look left and you will see fields of fresh vegetables, herbs and edible flowers, look right and youll see the old docks and the remains of what used to be a fruit harbor. Once inside the white fluffy cat will welcome you and lead you to a rustic, modern restaurant. An open kitchen with a grand stone oven, tables in untreated wood and a HUGE tree-size table in the middle. In the corner lights the woodburner where you can hang on the sofas with some drinks. The menu is simple, with pure ingredients straight from the land. Delicious...What they don't have is locally sourced, including the cheese, meat and fish. Eco minded or not, this place is a ride. Before you get back on your bike, shop your own fresh goodies from their shop or if you are tempted, pick it yourself

This store has been around since 1908 and might just be the oldest shop we have featured. A family run business situated in the longest shopping street of the Netherlands provides a great selection of quality wines, meats, bread and other delicious foods. If you are looking for a nice lunch Vermeyden is also a good option with a nice terrace outside as well. They will be happy to serve you whether it is a take-a-way sandwich or a coffee. But if you are in the mood for something more extraordinary visit the cheese counter where they will also tempt your taste buds with nuts and other delicatessen. There is a reason why they have been here for so long and my guess is they will not leave anytime soon. They also have the most amazing delicacies on offer; it's like a sweet shop for grown-ups! Wether you're into sweet or savoury, they have everything; cheeses, meats, olives, chocolates, biscuits and more. Tip: I find it hard to get a mocha in Rotterdam but the staff were really nice and excited about trying something new when I asked for a hot chocolate with a shot of espresso; I would highly recommend the result!
