She listened to exactly what I wanted while still giving me honest professional advice, which I really appreciated. She also recommended getting a haircut beforehand, and I'm SO glad I listened. I have really thick hair with a lot of density, and she spent about 40 minutes cutting it. She didn't rush at all and was so meticulous. She removed just enough weight while keeping my length, added beautiful long layers, and gave my hair so much more movement and dimension. The perm came out exactly how I was hoping! Jennifer agreed to accommodate me and even stayed after hours to work on me. She assessed my hair and decided what to do (we ended up removing 50% of the extensions -- the previous salon had added too much hair so she could charge me for more hair, which was one of the reasons I ended up looking like I was wearing a wig). Pretty sure he doesn't actually have a storefront and just sells hair out of his sister's house in Inglewood where I picked it up! Should have taken that as a red flag and went elsewhere but I needed some hair asap for an event. Wish I had listened to my gut. KEEP READING BELOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN MORE DETAILS: I used to do hair (extensions specifically) so I know good hair. I usually prefer to buy unprocessed South Indian temple hair direct from Vendors in India but needed some bundles right away for some events I had coming up. I did a google search for a local vendor I could pick up from and came across LayLuxury - figured I'd take a chance and give them a try since reviews looked pretty good (must be fake reviews left by family or friends) owner claimed his hair is top quality direct from Indian temples....DEFINITELY NOT TRUE! As soon as I went to install the hair I noticed some quality concerns. The hair is much fuller towards the weft but gets very thin and scraggly towards the bottom (see pictures) and when I went to style the hair as I always do, I immediately smelled a burning plastic smell. I looked at my curling wand after curling each hair section and noticed multiple melted plastic looking hairs stuck on it that I had to wipe off on a towel between every pass. At first I hoped that maybe it was a fluke but as I kept testing more of the hair, I saw that it was the same with both sets of hair I purchased and throughout all of it. I reached out to the owner right away to let him know about the quality control issues in a very nice and understanding manner so that he could address the matter with his vendor but I was immediately met with a hostile, aggressive & unprofessional attitude. Once I sent him enough video evidence and undeniable proof that there was at least some synthetic hair mixed in with real hair in it, he finally seemed to somewhat change his tone and offered to give me a refund and replacement. I was satisfied with that resolution but when I followed up with him a couple days later on this he snapped at me very aggressively and started backpedaling on his offer to refund/replace. As an actual, real business owner myself, I can say that this is NOT good business practice and you lost what would have been a very valuable and loyal customer. Also - as a man working with a predominantly female client base, learn how to accept valid complaints or constructive feedback from your customers without getting aggressive and defensive! He was so rude and hostile over the phone that I told him I wouldn't feel comfortable meeting him at another private residence again for the exchange and would only meet him in a public shop. You acted as though you did me some huge favor by selling me terrible hair lol you didn't do me any favors, I was paying you for a product that was falsely advertised and awful quality. I've colored my hair MANY times over the years, and I honestly don't remember ever having a colorist give my hair that level of attention and care. She absolutely knows her craft. And the results were beyond my expectations! My color came out beautiful, I loved my haircut, and most importantly, I was amazed at how well my hair handled all the lightening. Judy did a fantastic job and I walked out absolutely LOVING my hair. The only thing I do think could be improved is transparency around pricing. I paid a $50 deposit when I booked the appointment and was then charged $690 at the end of my service, bringing the total to $740 before tip. That included my color, haircut, and a $90 Olaplex treatment. I completely understand that I have long hair, this was an extensive service, and I was there for almost five hours, but $740 before tip was definitely some serious sticker shock, LA or not. I would have appreciated having a clearer estimate and breakdown of the total cost before we started, particularly when additional treatments are being added. That being said, I want to give Judy all the credit she deserves because her work and the level of care she gave my hair were exceptional. She is incredibly talented, knows her craft, and the results speak for themselves. Will I go back to her? Absolutely!!
