I didn't go inside, but my husband did and he was back out with a garlic Parmesan pretzels and pretzel bites in less than five minutes. They were what you'd expect from a pretzel place. The topping of garlic Parmesan was really tasty. Needless to say we devoured it all including the spicy mustard. This place is really good! You've got to get their beer cheese dip, it's to die for. I even ordered more than I could handle and took some home to eat later. Usually soft pretzels aren't good after a few hours but this was still delicious! I'm also a big fan of Auntie Anne's Pretzels so if I had to pin it up against Auntie Anne's I would say it was a tie. I went by this lovely little shop this afternoon and was incredibly impressed with not only the service but the diversity and teamwork of all different kinds of kids working together. That brown boy was rolling like a Tasmanian Devil i've never seen a pretzel made like that. Makes me so full of jubilation seeing how diverse our country is, god bless our civil rights activists. I need a pretzel anonymous group- because I am addicted to soft pretzels! I popped into Ben's to drool over the glass case of pretzel goodness and was offered a sample- oh yes! Please and thank you. As I started biting into this big sample I realized my husband did not follow me inside- oh no, panic- he will accuse me of wandering off again (this is me in my natural state- distracted and wandering off)- I step out of Ben's and find hubby a few steps away and shove the last bite of pretzel in his mouth to stop him from accusing me. It was so buttery and warm and just salty heaven in your mouth. We were on another mission to find a new distillery- but after that we circled back to Ben's for some pretzel sticks! We were out walking when we came across this little pretzel place. I suggested stopping in for a quick snack before we ate dinner later that evening. That little snack quickly turned into a dinner within itself, because once we went inside and saw what they had on the menu, we couldn't help ourselves! It all looked so appetizing! I honestly expected basic pretzels but NO. They have all kinds of flavors you can add to spruce those basic pretzels up with. Not only that, they actually have PRETZEL SANDWICHES and PRETZEL DOGS. I think I'm getting too excited thinking about it again! I ordered a plain pretzel for my 3 year old, a sour cream and onion pretzel combo (with beer cheese) for myself, and a meatball pretzel sandwich. Now a typical pretzel stand tends to be bland or salty, but we're talking about Ben's. Not a typical pretzel stand. Here, both the pretzel AND the filling (or seasoning) is phenomenal. The pretzel isn't overly salty, and has the right amount of crunch/softness to it. Don't get me started on that beer cheese, which I actually had to go back and order an extra one, because my husband ended up eating all of it. The sour cream and onion pretzel is great with the beer cheese if you're the type that enjoys creamy cheesy goodness. We ate in their beautiful garden patio outdoor seating area... and enjoyed being able to get free refills on our drinks as we needed them, since it was a hot day. Don't go here "just for a snack" unless you have a large appetite, because the portion sizes are pretty decent! After exploring Castillo de San Marcos, my husband and I were on the hunt for an afternoon snack. Ben's Soft Pretzels was one of the first spots to catch our eye, so we swung in to grab a quick bite. The pretzel case was pretty picked over, and our top choice (Dutch Almond) was totally out. The employee offered to bake fresh ones, but our growling stomachs and lack of time led us to pick something ready to go. I can't remember what they were called, but we had the plain pretzel bites, and they were perfect pillows of pretzelly goodness. Perfectly salted, buttery, and just the right amount of chew. The garden out back provided a beautiful setting to enjoy our pretzel bites (though we later learned on a ghost tour that this garden area is haunted - so beware ) The only reason I subtracted a Star was because of the case being so empty early in the afternoon. read more

Second time though- completely different. The guy gave me a salted pretzel didn't even bother to dip it in butter and just sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar. So we were exploring St. Aug after our Nights of Lights trolley ride and we walked by this pretzel place that smelled so yummy. We turned around and came back because they smelled so good. We ordered 3 plain jumbo pretzels and 2 sauces. He told the woman 2 people in front of us ordering that it would be 3 minutes for her pretzel (plain jumbo) as they were in the oven. By the time he had checked her out, I had placed my order and my sister had placed hers it had easily been 8 minutes. We waited another 5-7 minutes when our cashier finally pulled the pretzels out of the oven and they were extremely burnt. He served one to the woman in front of us and I politely let him know that we would not eat those and requested pretzel bites instead. He rolled his eyes at me and pointed at the pretzel sticks in the warmer "you want sticks". I politely said no thank you we would like the pretzel bites instead. He shoved them on the counter and we took them and both said thank you repeatedly. After the first thank you he rolled his eyes at us, after the second thank you he turned his back on us and I finally yelled thank you - he refused to turn around or say you're welcome. The pretzel bites were okay, cheddar cheese sauce was stale and staff politeness was a definite thumbs down. P.S they won't make the Dutch Almond if it's busy...why? read more
