We were looking for an adventure with our new-ish kayaks. We fortuitously read a Michigan tourism magazine tucked into the Chicago Tribune; the magazine featured a story about kayaking in Les Cheneaux with Woods & Waters. It sounded great! Though we are comfortable on the water, we thought it would be good to have a guide in an area new to us -- and Tim was a perfect guide for our half-day paddle! We learned so much about this beautiful and interesting area, saw an eagle and its nest, did a quick mid-paddle hike to get an amazing view to go with our rock skipping and gained a few kayaking skill tips that will make us better kayakers. It certainly was a bonus that the water and weather cooperated -- water like glass and just enough sun. Tim - thanks for the advice to do the Narnia hike - that was our afternoon adventure! We ended our day at Les Cheneaux Distillers. The day couldn't have been better. We loved our paddle so much and felt comfortable with our newfound knowledge from Tim that we went back for a quick paddle the next morning. We wish we could have stayed on the water all day! Our bikes had a big basket upfront to hold things which was great plus a lock to lock the bike. It was a well run operation. We walked up and they got us sized with a bike and adjusted the seat really fast and we're on our way. Our bikes had a holder for our phones and they had a map you could follow on Google with the most popular spots to stop at.

Mackinac Cycle made it extremely easy to rent four bikes on the day that we arrived on the island. We needed three adult bikes and one kid bike. I was concerned that they might not have a bike small enough for my youngest son, but they did! (He's around 4-foot something.) We all got our bikes and locks, and were sent on our way in about 10 minutes. It was so easy. They give you locks, but there are so many bikes on the island and I hardly saw anyone lock up a bike. It's a very casual island vibe in Mackinac. That said, you're responsible for the bike if anything happens to it, so I suggest using the lock that Mackinac Cycle provides. One bonus: You get a bottle of water with your bike! And the bikes we got had baskets, which was handy. The people who work at Mackinac Cycle are super friendly, and their little stand is open all day and night, pretty much, so if you have a problem or a question, you can just roll up and someone can help you.

I was not sure at first what to do since I was not sure how long I was going to be renting the bike for. They explained that you do not need to know how long you want to rent for it is all about when you come back. They asked additional questions like what routes did we plan on biking on the island. They can give you a different bike based on it you want to bike the hills in the center of the island or if you are going to just be biking around town or around the island. They also added on a basket complimentary! They have a tire pump if your tires get low and if anything goes wrong with your bike while you are renting from them you can give them a call and they will come to you. I definitely would recommend coming over here to rent a bike if it is close to where you are staying.

How do get my bike done in the 1.5 hours of time available after work to have it ready for the 7:30 am ride to work. Well i called Velo, they had the needed parts, assured me if bike was there they would get me out without issue. So, the mechanic goes over my bike, i left to do other things. Less than 30 minutes later my bike was done. I received a text " your bike is ready" . Love this . Prices are as good as the internet prices , in some cases better, killer service, a staff that recognizes my particular needs, ( that's huge for me, for anyone really),and generally a bike shop that knows bikes very well. The staff were extremely helpful and informative! My wife had not ridden a bike in a really long time and the staff were really supportive in getting her confidence back up. And the faux flowers in the bike basket were such a cute addition - we had so many compliments about it from strangers as we were riding around. Will be using their bikes again when we come back!
