I love going to this place. I'd say the prices are worth it for the insanely large slice of pizza that you get. Honestly, I say start out with the basics, cheese and pepperoni. He can't go wrong there before you start going into their other flavors just so you can get a base for what flavors you're going to be experiencing. It was extremely hard to get to this place with all the road construction going on in front of the restaurant! (Not Benny Scarpetta's fault) I finally parked across the street in the Bank parking lot! It may really nice and accessible once all the road front work is done...until then serious patience! This was my first time to this place, I had heard from college students that this would be a cool place to try out, especially if I was going to have 20+ hungry college students over for dinner! Welp, we figured out it is about the same cost getting at another pizza joint versus Benny's, so for purely nostalgic reasons we decided to drive 24 minutes, we decided to try this place out! So we called a couple of hours in advance for 3 cheese pizzas. (something like $95 including tax). We had it cut into 16 slices instead of the normal 8 slices. We were pleasantly surprised by the very friendly staff here! I was blown away how large the pizza was....it was I think like 28 inches long per pizza. Picking up was heavy... could barely fit through the front door and could barely fit my vehicle! Then arriving home, it barely fit our front door! I had to tilt the pizza box to bring it inside! The guys were blown away how tasty it was, even more, the sheer size of the pizza was a conversation piece! Well by the end the 3 boxes were devoured with a few lagging crumbs! Benny's is a pretty neat addition to the local downtown food fare in Lynchburg. It's located pretty much in the middle of the Main Street drag, and it's become a staple pizza stop. Their slices are twice the size of your head and pretty cheap to boot ($5-6). They normally have a selection of a few flavors: classics like cheese and pepperoni, and I'm not sure if it's occasionally or always, but they have a few different gourmet flavors, like buffalo chicken (which is INCREDIBLE--I would eat it every day). The pizza itself is huge and it's classic. It won't blow your mind in being revolutionary or kitschy, but that's the beauty of Benny's: it's classic and dependable. I go in expecting a massive piece of pizza that I can drizzle their special hot sauce blend on and my expectations are MORE than met. The place itself has a really cool and eclectic vibe as well. You walk in to the warm smell of pizza pies cooking in the massive ovens. It's heavenly. Plenty of booths and high top tables, as well as a few tables on the porch and a larger table in the back. The claim to fame here is that the slices are as big as your head and the full pie is something like 30 inches... it makes for some interesting conversation for sure. The place is kind of funky / divey / cool and there is a variety of tables inside and out for you to enjoy your pizza. There is beer available as well to wash it all down. The pizza was done within about 15 minutes and the server brought it to our table. Crispy crust, it was delicious! The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because of the staff. The guy who took our order was cordial, even though it seemed like he could care less; and wasnt very helpful. And after we were done the girl in the kitchen said I had to bring the pizza tray and everything from the table back to her, even though it seemed like the type of joint where they come around to clean. Solid pizza place in the heart of Lynchburg. My friends and I were visiting my sister for a few days and stopped at Benny's to grab some pizza. Even though it's not the best pizza I've ever had I understand why it's still a great addition to the area. Thoughts and Recommendations: - Service was OK. The folks behind the register didn't seem like the wanted to be there. They may have been overwhelmed, I'm not sure. But overall the service lacked and was pretty slow. - COVID protocols were OK. I noticed the tables inside were more spread apart, every other booth was blocked off, and the staff was wearing masks. However, I didn't notice anyone disinfecting tables between customers and some people were not wearing masks. I think Benny's could be a safer place to eat if 1. mask policy was enforced or 2. They limited the capacity of people inside at all times (including waiting in line to place an order). - Pizza was OK. I enjoyed the thin crust and the size of the slice. It's rare to come across a large slice of pizza you can fold! However, to give this pizza *5 stars* would be unfair. This pizza does the job- taste like pizza, enjoyable, and satisfies your hunger.
