Got an eye exam, my prescription was changed and my contacts and I can't see out of them. They won't fix told me it's too late and need to pay out of pocket. Didn't use $100 credit from my insurance but was told I did. Now I'm left for next 2 years not being able to use my new glasses and have a contact prescription that isn't right for my eyes. read more

I travelled to NY to see family and while there use my union benefit for glasses .. the S.I. store was clean the ladies were nice but I had to ask for a glaucoma test ( I have it) she flipped maybe 2 lens and said I was done never did any other tests or anything.. got my glasses which I knew wouldn't be correct since I walked out of the store ... she dismissed vision issues I said I had saying they were medical not vision.. what she missed was beginning of cataracts ( which cause the issue I said I was having) vessel issues , dry eye and that one of my eyes needed more then reading glasses ... would not recommend read more

I am only writing this review because of all the negative reviews I've seen. First off, most of the people writing reviews are probably upset because either they weren't listening, or they didn't explain exactly what they needed. I've seen many people do this when I worked in retail. More often than not the problems are the customers, NOT the store. That said, I have gone here twice now. They NEVER tried to sell me designer lenses OR designer frames. When I did not like the generic free frames, I asked to see nicer framers. I CHOSE to ask, and that is when they showed them to me. I ended up getting the titanium frames, which I am not using for each new set of lenses. They even demonstrated the strength of the frames to me when I asked, and were patient with me for almost an hour of customer service in picking out my frames. Then we come to the lenses. I got progressive lenses because I have an astigmatism and need reading glasses. I am ALWAYS at the computer. They then showed me the 3 types of progressives. This is where some may think the sales people are trying to upsell, but it isn't true. When you order smaller frames, it is difficult to put cheaper progressives on them because the lenses tend to be too small to give a good viewing area. On larger frames it is fine, but for smaller frames the better made progressives (which are more expensive for sure) are much better. I know this because before I went to them I had small frames and crappy lenses. I had issues with peripheral vision because of it. I have had no such issue with these frames/lenses whatsoever. I also was asked about options. This is NORMAL. Retailers in general tell their employees to mention options. It is their job. Of course they want to make money. However, they were NEVER pushy and it was me who asked about them. I had bought a spare pare of prescription sunglasses which i lost, so this time I got the lenses that darken on their own. I asked about it. They did not push. I got the anti glare and blue light filter. I got it because I am at my computer all the time. The point is, they did NOT EVER get pushy or annoying. The girls even remembered who I was from 2 years before (the last time I got glasses) when I called them on the phone. They are VERY nice and sweet, and go out of their way to help. Even today, I was having an issue with my glasses, unsure how to use them at a computer. She tried to help me with that over the phone and then was going to ask me to come in for a FREE RECHECK to see if my prescription was right. I didn't even ask that. She volunteered it. Yes they are a bit more expensive but I have no issues with that when the service is great. Anyone who is saying they are pushy or money hungry is probably just bitter because THEY made a mistake, THEY didn't inform the people what they wanted. THEY didn't understand what was told to them. THEY thought they heard one thing but it was another because they weren't actually listening. Remember most people who write reviews tend to either HATE or LOVE a place. Most everyone else is satisfied. I am writing this because these 1 star reviews are a joke. None of it is true. Go there. The place is great. read more

I was there a few weeks ago and my husband and I both had an eye exam and we both looked at frames which they are over priced... so I asked if I could just have our scripts and i was going to get our frames and lenses else where, Before he gave me my script (he wouldn't fax or email it to me i had to go there to sign before he would release my script to me) he made me go there to sign a form that i had an eye exam and that I was getting frames there so he would get reimbursed from my union .. I said i will not sign that I got frames from you i only had an eye exam he said oh you have to in order for me to get paid... I signed paper and also specified on that paper that i ONLY got an eye exam... I called my union to report them... so people just be careful hes a fraud and not friendly read more

I went here needing an eye exam for both glasses and contacts and to purchase new glasses. I spent $600 on designer glasses (most I've ever spent) and was excited to get them. The frames I ordered were delivered in the wrong color the first time. So the second time I went to get them, I was so focused on the color, I didn't notice that the detail on the side of the frame was different than the ones I ordered (I ordered a Prada frame with a floral detail on the side; I got ropes and a crest detail). I called later and they basically said they could not help me, even though it was them who screwed up. Fast forward 5 months later to now, I have moved to Long Island and called them today to make sure they had my contact prescription on file so I could order contacts (from online) and they told me the optometrist never measured me for contacts lenses even though when I had my appointment I specifically told them I needed a new prescription for both glasss and contacts. The guy on the phone also told me I had an astigmatism. This is the first time I've been told this - shouldn't the optometrist be the one telling me this instead of the guy answering the phone? Add to all of this the fact that the sales person I was dealing with (Marie) was really pushy. Skip it! Not worth your time or hard-earned money! read more

My family and I (5 of us) have been using Designer Optical since it first opened 20 years ago. We have bought our glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, had eye exams and were always treated with courtesy, respect and patience. Of course when it is crowded, because they have good values also and a great selection, it is like any business that acts on first come first serve basis. As a long term customer, I have never felt ignored even when we had to wait for our turn. They are as professional as it gets and without the fancy prices and fancy name so you get more than you pay for. read more

I love this place. I've been going here for a few years for checkup and contact lenses. I find the eyeglasses to be a little more expensive here. But highly recommend going here for check ups and for the cheaper brand of eyeglasses if designer glasses aren't your thing. read more

I went in looking for an eyeglass repair kit for my broken glasses. I came out extremely satisfied as the generous worker fixed my glasses without any fee. HORRIBLE. Everything is horrible about this place. The doctor is RUDE. He said things to me that were blatantly actually INSULTING ME. What doctor insults a first time client - multiple times in one visit?! The people on the floor are completely incompetent and have no clue what they are doing. I went there because my husband's insurance plan includes them as a preferred partner. After waiting 30 mins, the visiting optometrist asks me (in a rude tone) if I'm wearing contacts. I was and I told him so. He forgets and starts the exam and seems baffled because my eyesight seems 20/20 . He then proceeds with an uncomfortable exam that had him practically sitting in my lap at some points. When he's done, he tells me to leave and gives me no feedback on the results -- I had to ask the receptionist, who wasn't sure what she was looking at. Finally, I ask for my prescription and then they tell me I have to come back until they're comfortable with the recommended lenses. I told them I've been wearing them 3 years and contacts 23 years and I didn't have time for the back and forth. Bottom line, they weren't happy that I wasn't going to buy the overpriced lenses from them and were giving me the run around. I've never had such an uncomfortable visit with an optometrist. I left without any business transaction and will be going elsewhere. read more

I have been getting my contacts and glasses here for many years. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When I order my contacts they arrive on a timely basis and I always get a courtesy call that they come in. The doctor is very thorough and cares about each patient he sees. I have recommended friends and family members to this location. Bottom line - I would highly recommend Designer Optical. Great place! I've been going here for over 10 and highly recommended Dr. Cooper and his staff. The staff is amazing, so helpful and patient. Dr. Cooper is knowledgeable and so friendly. Prices are good, eye glass and sunglass selection are large and wait time isn't a problem. Never had any issues and making an appointment isn't an issue. Great place! read more

I purchased my glasses about 1 years ago the piece that goes over the nose broke, I was told that they will have to order the piece, a few day later I was told they can't get it. I paid over $1,000 and they could not fix my glasses, this is what happens when you buy at a small crappy place. Next time I will purchase my glasses at a big chain store. (Lencrafters, Cohen, Sears, etc... One more thing i like to add, they are quick to take your money, stay away guys save your money go somewhere else. read more

I have spent literally thousands over the years that I have shopped there. When Hurricane Sandy hit we had just picked up our contact lenses (a years worth) they were ruined in the flood. They would not even offer ONE free pair of contact lenses, never mind being nice and just replacing them for us. I was a 20 year customer and I will NEVER go back there again. 1 800 Contacts actually replaced a full years contacts for us at NO COST!!!! You really learn about people during a crisis and Designer Optical is in it for the money and cares nothing about their customers at all! I tell everyone I know not to ever shop there. I still cannot get over how rude they were and how very little they cared about us. SHAME ON YOU! Believe me karma comes around and you will feel loss of money, I am sure of it. We know many people on SI that used to use you and after we told them what happened, they stopped going to you. Aside from that your staff knows nothing about their jobs! I will NEVER step foot in that store again and it IS your loss because I spent plenty of money in there and I need contacts and glasses again but will NEVER step foot in your store again.
