My friend invited me to lunch at Benedict's. This is almost like a diner inside a strip mall. The menu had a lot of good-sounding choices. I chose a Philly Cheesesteak. While waiting for our orders, I was impressed by how personable & hard-working the waitresses were. Benedict's was clean & spacious, & our meals came out quickly. My Philly started off looking great, with thin cut slices of meat, melted cheese, onions, & peppers. Unfortunately as I ate it, the sandwich sprung a leak, lol. An oily, watery liquid had quickly soaked through the bread & was dripping everywhere. In addition each mouthful of sandwich seemed very oily on my palette. I'm guessing when making this sandwich all the oil given off when the meat was cooked got scooped up with the meat. And perhaps as the onions & peppers cooked, liquid was created which also got scooped in. In any event, my sandwich was an oily, watery mess. Initially it looked great when it arrived, but it metamorphosized into a soaked food pile. My friend's food looked great, & the place was crowded, so hopefully my meal was an anomaly. read more

On Sunday went to grab some breakfast. Got there around 9:30ish and there was a wait(15 min), even when we were leaving there was still a lot of people. It's super clean and modern looking inside. They serve mimosas and bloody Mary's ! Our server was very nice and kept the coffee flowing (long night) I ordered the country fried steak with eggs (over easy), home fries, and wheat toast. The steak was good and I liked the gravy. It was much smaller than any other breakfast spot's country fried steak in the area. That's my only ehhhhh about here. I am now a regular at Bendict's on Bayshore in Dunedin. The staff is friendly, even though they are all so busy. Nadine, whose station is where I usually sit, usually has what I drink waiting for me by the time I get to my seat. She knows my likes and dislikes (doesn't forget anything), and knows I always get a cappuccino when I am done with breakfast and always fixes it exactly like I want it; 3 Splendas in before the foamy part is put on the top. I have not had a bad meal, and I have tried a lot of them, and the service is quick, almost instant. Sometimes I go there by myself, sometimes I go with others. It doesn't matter. The continuing saga of the weekly Mother and son quest to satisfy a die hard breakfast fan and a lunch only fan! This restaurant has been close to home for a long time, initially in a tiny spot in this strip mall. The new space is awesome, lots of room between tables, efficient and fast service, nice lighting inside! The food was amazing - one of our best compromise meals yet. The omelette was light and fluffy with a side of fruit and banana bread. The omelette with sausage was almost the size of the plate with amazing home fries - you will not go home hungry and there's something for everyone in the group (including Mimosas)! My experience at Benedict's was equally refreshing and relaxing. When you first walk in, you are greeted with a modern, spacious atmosphere that doesn't really scream "family restaurant" (not necessarily a bad thing). They have a bar section which is where I sat where they serve your standard drinks plus selections of wine. The menu is pretty diverse and the prices are fairly standard for a restaurant (my order came to about $15 minus the tip). The waitresses are very friendly, attentive, and social able. I was able to place my order rather quickly and I didn't have to wait too long for my food. Everything was hot and fresh and looks very appealing on the plate (the corned beef hash looked a little weird but tasted good). The food was delicious. The fresh fruit was very light and refreshing, the eggs and grits were fluffy and creamy, and the toast was nice and toasty. They have a great selection of jellies including apple butter and orange marmalade among the standard strawberry and grape. The coffee was also robust and great tasting as well. Overall, I was pleasantly satisfied with my experience here and I might even make this my regular weekly breakfast spot. *Nadine was my server and she was phenomenal!* Live long and prosper. read more

Love this place for breakfast- bigger than the usual places I love but the vibe is a local breakfast cafe where the wait staff know who the customers are and there are a few long time regular customers, I've been in a few times and I sit at the counter. Nadine is fabulous, always says hi, always friendly, always joking. customers love her too. You definitely know when they're super busy by the hustle of the waitresses behind the bar and throughout they restaurant and Nadine runs the place accordingly. Stopped in this morning for a late breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. The server was very attentive and pleasant, especially for as busy as she was! Coffee was great and we didn't have to ask for refills! I got the smoked salmon plate, my only complaint is that the tomatoes were underripe, but the salmon was delicious and my eggs were perfect. I would appreciate a gluten free bread option on the menu as well. My husband got the country fried steak and said it was very good and tender. Even the grits were nicely seasoned. This is my favorite go-to breakfast/ brunch place. Service is great, I love the huge breakfast bar for seating! My favorite things are the quiche and of course the eggs Benedict, and occasionally I treat myself to a half order of biscuits and gravy with a poached egg. Portions are hearty and price is reasonable. However, for now (as of Sep 2020) I'm not going to be dining there for a while since I saw at my last visit that they seem to be operating at full capacity, without any spacing, even at the breakfast bar. Once Florida mandates that restaurants can open at capacity/ without spacing I'll be happy to return as a dine in customer. Until then I'll consider take out only. Truly disappointing...I'm not a snowbird and I'm a weekly customer. Sometimes 2x a week. My order this morning was easy: french toast - no powdered sugar - and a side of well done bacon. The bacon was not well done, but that's not why I'm writing this review. Our server brought the french toast to the table with powdered sugar, placed it in front of me and said "it has powdered sugar on it...is that ok?" No, it was not! Please don't attempt to give a customer the opposite of what they asked for. And it took awhile to get the replacement, after which she said do you need more coffee. And we waited & waited for more coffee. So...the cook made a mistake but a server should know better and then bring us lots of hot coffee to make up for it. Ok so Benedict's breakfast is sooo good I broke my rule of never going more than one time to a restaurant. There are a ton of breakfast and brunch places in Tampa bay area and I will visit them all. But because Benedict's really is amazing we had to re-visit and once again found service, coffee, quiche, warm specialty breads, and fresh fruit to be outstanding. I tried the spinach artichoke quiche this time and it was tender moist and had a large amount of spinach and artichokes. Oh and did I mention that Benedict's is local owned and operated? We went there and 2 of us had Benedict meat / lox. The hollandaise (sp) seemed like it was melted velveeta. It just missed something. As we were new and our friend was a regular customer, she thought it needed something as well. My wife is GF and they did fine for her, but she also said hers was just fair, a skillet with eggs, meat and potatoes. So I'm not sure if it was an off day for the place or what the hype is, but we thought 3 stars was all we could do. The waitress was really nice though and was working hard to make it all good. So it's super depressing... I came here one day and had the absolute best time. The food was great, the server was super friendly and it left a huge impression on me. I travel the country and work remote so I've been to many different restaurants. I was excited to find such a great spot. It left such an impact that I came the exact next day again for breakfast... well let's just say it was a complete disaster. My server, Gina, was extremely rude.. I was trying to order and she wouldn't even let me talk, she would try and step away and rush me. I ended up not even ordering what I wanted.. I literally tried to order the exact same meal as I did the day before and she didn't tell me that I chose the waffle and not the pane cake, so it was an extra 7$ ... and low key quality of the waffle was bad.... So now I'm paying more.. and instead of fixing it, she laughs and says next time she will remind me. Well I'm never coming back... huge huge disappointment. I thoroughly enjoyed my Country Skillet breakfast! On a Saturday morning, as we headed to Honeymoon Island, I searched for a breakfast place en route & found Benedict's Family Restaurant. Because it's located in a bland, semi-vacant shopping plaza, I never would have discovered Benedict's without Yelp. We chose to sit inside by the window, although some outdoor seating is available. While we were dining, I noticed a couple with a dog sit down outside, and smiled when I saw their waitress bring a bowl of fresh water. Our own server was pleasant and efficient, and the kitchen was fairly quick in preparing our homestyle breakfasts. My skillet was a delicious combination of potatoes, eggs & meats, and I was able to request no onions nor green peppers. Portions were very filling, as I couldn't quite finish my meal.
