My experiences at Sunny Nails in Benbrook have unfortunately been very hit or miss over the past…read moreseveral visits. The male owner is wonderful--he is skilled, attentive, and consistently does excellent work. When he does my nails, they are shaped properly, comfortable, and durable. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for two other technicians who work there. Both women appear to have very limited understanding of English and rely on the owner to translate. This became a serious problem during my appointments. When I visibly winced from pain, they would smile and nod rather than stop or adjust what they were doing. Despite obvious discomfort and repeated attempts on my part to communicate--both verbally and through clear hand gestures--they continued working incorrectly. My nails were visibly crooked, yet they seemed unable or unwilling to recognize the problem. Even after I demonstrated what was wrong, they repeatedly filed the short sides of my nails, making them even more uneven. I had to stop them over and over again, which made the experience stressful and frustrating. During my last visit, I was again assigned one of these two technicians. Despite me clearly explaining that the owner never files the top of my nails with the drill, that I did not want that done, and that it affects how well my dip nails hold up, she continued to do it anyway. Either she did not understand or she did not remember--yet she would not acknowledge either possibility. I eventually had to physically pull my hand away when she came at my nails again with the drill on the top surface. I later had to file my own nails just to get the ends straight across. At that point, I decided I would never allow either of those two technicians to work on my nails again and specifically booked my next appointment with the owner. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. Just two weeks after that last appointment, my middle and ring (third) fingernails on my right hand completely popped off--and took layers of my natural nail with them. I genuinely want to support this salon because the owner does excellent work. However, the inconsistency in skill level, inability to communicate, and disregard for client comfort by other staff members is a serious issue. Until that is addressed, I cannot confidently recommend allowing anyone other than the owner to perform services here.

But what sterilized the experience was pre choosing your services with options. While I see how it helps it keep things transparent in terms of billing (walking in with designer items doesn't encourage staff to jack up pricing like at other places), it didn't allow for customization or upgrades for my daughter's kids pedicure. She has no callouses or dead skin like us dried out adults but pre teens enjoy a little upgrade! I asked the front desk staff and after they looked into it, they confirmed that a kids pedicure has zero option to upgrade to a lavender, lemongrass, couture etc experience. Pumice stone and sugar scrub was all she could get in the kids pedicure. That was a bummer because she was visibly disappointed and I was not about to pay $65 for a lavender pedicure + $20 gel upgrade for an $85 gel pedicure for her little baby toes. I wouldn't even do that for me, and I have some mean callouses to work off. Complimentary cocktail was included (I got the cotton candy champagne, forgot the name) and you got to choose that beforehand which was cool, and they had a variety of alcohol and non-alcoholic choices. Just wish there was a bit more flexibility with options here. They have a points system and bday discounts which is nice for locals. The place was absolutely poppin, busier than I've ever seen at a normal regular nail place so clearly they're doing something right for their clientele! It just was disappointing because I know my regular nail place would customize whatever I needed for my girl.
