Bellini's Shoe Avenue, Marikina is the second branch of this restaurant by Italian Roberto Bellini and Pinay wife Maria Luisa. Their first branch, located in Cubao Shoe Expo, is more popular. But, I believe, the Marikina branch deserves equal attention. In fact, money aside, this is my favorite eating place in Marikina.
Why do I love it? Let me count the ways.
First, it offers quality Italian food that is not TOO expensive (although it would still be pricey for someone on a tight budget). They make their own pasta and you can even request them to serve you a freshly-made one plus you can choose the pasta type (Spaghetti? Linguine? Fettucine? Angel Hair? Name it). If I may recommend, try their Spaghetti Cartoccio. However, they serve more than just pasta. They have different pizzas to choose from and have dishes for every course: appetizer, soup, salad, main entrée, and dessert. Must-try desserts are the Obama Cake (hot, moist, rich chocolate cake) and the Orange Cake (with orange peels and adequately bittersweet) which are also quite popular with other customers I've met.
Second, you get a complimentary sweet wine. (How sweet!) It's just the size of a shot glass, but, this wine, made by Mr. Bellini himself, will make you feel that your meal is complete. Nice complement to any of the two cakes mentioned above.
Third, the owners and the staff are very accommodating. The owners mingle with their customers and sometimes even share a story or two about their experience in Italy. Meanwhile, the waiters really try to assist you. When you ask for something, they politely say yes and you can tell from their gestures that they do want your request fulfilled.
Finally, the ambiance is very romantic. The walls are painted with scenes and places from Italy. The chairs are colored red and a grand piano sits on one side of the first floor. I think this is the best asset of Bellini's. It doesn't just taste Italian, it also looks and feels Italian. They also have a function room in the second floor that is equally romantic as the main restaurant in the first level. You can rent it out for an event for a reasonable price. We've celebrated an event here before and our guests loved the romantic mood of the place.
