This smaller showroom is still worth checking out for indoor dining and coffee table options. On first appearance it looks like a suburban home ware store with candles and lanterns and generic sculptures. This is because given the size of the shop, stocking home ware and furnishings would make more sense. However this store is definitely catering for furniture with some funky chairs, low coffee tables, book shelves and even some eight seater dining table options. It's cramped but tasteful and definitely worth a browse if you're nesting it up in your first home.

As a sewer, I love their fabric scraps. Most of it's off-cuts of pretty odd shapes but there are some small rolls of fabric too. Selling truly random things like bottle caps, brochures, long tubes of mesh-like fabric--things that would otherwise be considered junk--this is a great place for creative souls, kindergarten teachers in search of craft material and anyone who wants to look first for second-hand materials before buying something new and contributing to the cycle of consumption! I wouldn't call myself a hippie, but I do appreciate the hippie style and often find pieces of clothing and homeware items in here that I really like. They often have some really lovely dresses made of light, floaty fabric, perfect for summer. I've also seen some great, wide-legged, high-waisted pants in there, which could easily pass as something you'd find in a more trendy shop, but for $40 less. They sell a lot of trinketty things like jewellery boxes, suncatchers and crystals, all of which can make nice gifts. Tree of Life is great for anyone even slightly interested in hippie or bohemian styles, prices are reasonable and staff friendly. Highly recommend.

Judging by reviews for other Tree Of Life stores and the company's website, Tree Of Life…read moreIndooroopilly is less high-end than one might expect, with less casual hip clothing than suggested and more modern hippy-style clothing than you could possibly imagine. And I like this. Tree Of Life Indooroopilly is indeed almost exclusively female hippy-wear: maxi dresses, sarong dresses and flowing skirts dominate. However, the clothing colour patterns are funky, not the hippy tie-die of yesteryear, and very inexpensive (you'd be hard pressed to spend $70 on an item in here - between $20 and $60 is more like it.) I bought a long black-and-white floral halter-neck dress from here, and receive compliments whenever I wear it. I've had the dress described as slightly hippy and/or slightly girly, and this is what I love in a dress, particularly ankle-sweeping dresses. The store boasts quite a few of these halter-neck style dresses, and I wish I could buy them all. Each print is unique and very different - with artfully designed ribbon sewn along the high waist - and therefore each dress seems to stand on its own as a unique, beautiful piece, despite the standard halter-dress original pattern design. Recently I visited this store with my sister. I had a tough time getting her in because of her aversion to incense. (My one criticism about Tree of Life would be the extreme incense smell, which streams out the door and into the shopping complex.) I'm glad she decided to suck it up and browse the store with me, because she ultimately bought a beautiful skirt of a style and type I'd never seen before. Floor length and high-waisted, the navy blue and white print fitted skirt was covered in rows of rather thick frills which didn't detract from the skirt, but added to it. Throwing too many frills at an item of clothing is often a recipe for disaster, but it works wonders here. If there had been more than one of these skirts left after my sister's purchase, I would have bought one - even if I'd already overspent that day. There are also fairly cheap hippy trinkets such as mood rings at the front counter for impulse-buyers. However, even if you're not a hippy, I highly advise visiting Tree Of Life Indooroopilly. It's not exactly a hippy-store per se: it's for the modern, fashionable, girly hippy.

I HATE throwing a party and spending a fortune on dinky plastic plates and tiny cups. It's all half the price here (at least) and for $2.50 you get 20 giant cups which won't annoy any of your guests. I also don't see why I should have to spend big bucks on wood glue or other random crafty stuff (looking at you Spotlight, you make it cheaper to buy it already made) so I'm always pretty happy when I need to duck in here. Yes it's a shit shop, so yes there's plenty of shit to wade through (knee high concrete lawn ornaments anyone?) but if you're a student furnishing your house or just a cheap skate like me there's plenty of bargains to be found.

Clayfield has something of a…read morereputation for being a hoity-toity sort of area, and so doesn't it make perfect sense that it's Vinnies sells more boutique items than bargain? Clayfield Vinnies has even gone to the lengths to arrange it's shop in a similar vein to a boutique store. You're not going to find stuff piled upon stuff here. Everything is orderly, skirts with skirts, cups with cups, the red clothes flow into the pink and then the purple... It's quite well presented and easily navigable. If the shops' appearance didn't signal upmarket to you, then the formal dress section should have. So should the design tags on some of the clothes you're browsing through. It was such a satisfying visit. I was bent over with the weight of the clothes I was carrying to the dressing rooms. There is so much great stock in here! The best part is that it's reasonably priced. If it's a designer piece, you'll pay a little more than the standard prices, but not much more. They've got five rooms of wares to sell, so put aside a little bit of time to go in there. Men might be pleasantly surprised by what they'll find in the men's section/room. Clayfield Vinnies doesn't really have much to offer in the way of homewares, but there is a small shrine per se, paying homage to more classical op shops with their mountains of tupperware strewn across the shop. What an unexpected find this op shop was. Because I was in Clayfield, I assumed that I wasn't in prime op shopping territory. As I left the store holding a new assymetrical linen brown skirt ($4) in one hand and little black dress ($6) in the other, I realised I was wrong.

The staff clearly knew what they were doing and took pride in their work. We picked up a few items and found the prices fair, especially compared to some of the bigger op-shops we later visited. We were also surprised with the music selection playing; the usual 97.3FM was cast aside in favour of Triple J, which the older ladies didn't seem to mind. Perhaps this is just a sign of suave staff who know their market. I like to think they exclaimed once we'd left and switched it over to a classics station.

They sit very comfortably without those odd lumps and bumps around the waist or zipper area which are signs of a poorly tailored dress. They also carry a range of knits, tops and skirts which seem to be aimed at older professional women. I've always stayed clear from their tops and skirts as I find the style incongruous to their youthful party dresses. Unlike most high-end boutiques in the centre, where you can feel slightly intimidated and self conscious about browsing, Review has some lovely staff who are friendly and helpful. When I went in there looking for a graduation dress, I was greeted by a lovely bespectacled girl who complimented me on my shoes. "Nice try," I thought. "You won't suck me into buying things with your sweet words! Mwaha".' But she was genuinely lovely and interested, and willing to help me find the right size and cut. The dresses there were gorgeous; they were tailored stiffly with tight waists and ballooning skirts that sat above the knee, and were made out of hardy yet delicate lace and cotton materials. Think Mad Men meets casual bridal. I didn't end up buying any of the five or so dresses I tried on, and the staff member was completely cool with it. We ended up just having a great chat about each of our university degrees and she wished me luck. I left wishing I had enough cashmoneys to buy all of the dresses so she could at least get some bonus on her wages.
