I went as part of a new Meetup group for those of us who want to go to cultural actives with others…read moreand not alone. Wonderful choice for the first event. The art house worked with Maybury State Park to have a group of local artists go for 3 days and produce paintings that shows the beauty and places in the park. Most did 3 or 4 paintings in different type of mediums depending on the artists strengths. The group went to the Live @ 5 Reception that opened the exhibit. Tickets were $35 for non members. Appetizers, 2 drink tickets, and live music from a harpist and a flute player from the Michigan Philharmonic. You also got to look at the art, shop the gift shop, meet some of artists and see the awards given out for the top pieces. A pleasant way to spend part of an evening talking to other art lovers and enjoying a cool summer evening while helping out a local organization that supports the arts. Looking forward to the event in September.

Viewing the exhibit is free of charge but donations are welcomed. The current exhibit is "Art That Pushes Boundaries" featuring the work of local artists. In addition to the exhibit, I noticed that a painting canvas kit was available for donation. The art house offers in-person classes including visual art training. Wouldn't it be nice if every town had an art house with exhibits and art education programs like this one? This is a wonderful community resource and I will be stopping by whenever there is a new exhibition.

The Model-T Automotive Heritage Complex, Inc., aka the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, was organized in 2000 as a nonprofit to preserve the Plant & keep it from being demolished. It's a museum & education center offering special programs & events. There are weddings here on weekends. In 1996 it was dedicated & was placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. We spent about 2 hrs here & looked out the window at how part of this factory was converted to apartments. Over 1,600 men worked here over 100 years ago manufacturing Fords. There are over 65 rare automobiles including Henry Ford's "Letter Cars," unique Model T conversion vehicles, and other antique cars manufactured in Milwaukee Junction. We visited Henry Ford's office and Secret Experimental Room where the Model T was created in 1908. We experienced one of the world's oldest surviving automotive plants through a guided tour led by museum docents.

This museum has the largest collection of model Ts on display. Fun fact: there were actually two model As, and no model P for, well, I think obvious reasons. Not only is every model Ford built at the plant on display, but also competitor's vehicles of the time, including an electric car that Mrs. Ford is reported to have loved driving. There are many surprises I will not spoil. If you love cars, history, old architecture, and friendly knowledgeable tour guides, this is a must see place on a visit to Detroit. Or for folks who live in Detroit who want to know more about its rich history.

I like Welcome Centers.  I like them a lot.  Whenever I pass a state line and one is near by I head…read moreright for it.                 I do not recommend this Welcome Center.  It has all the basics - there is a public restroom on the first floor and there are piles and piles of magazines featuring wonderful things that you can do in Michigan - all of which, except for a handful, appear to be very far away from this particular welcome center.                 It is located very near to the on ramp of Interstate 75 - so, if you are already in Michigan it is very easy to get to.  If you have just come in, however, you would need to drive past it for some distance, take an exit and navigate through some dodgy neighborhoods to get back to it.  If you are heading into Canada then it's a little more difficult to get to - but not much, just a little more difficult than it normally is.                 This particular Welcome Center is located in 'Mexicantown' - so, let's say you're coming from Canada and heading into the United States to enjoy your stay in Michigan - the first place you get to is 'Mexicantown'.  I don't get it but maybe there's a backstory I missed somewhere.                 The building itself isn't just a Welcome Center.  It's got other commercial ventures in it.  There is a Michigan Secretary of State so if you are heading into the United States you can stop by and get your Michigan Driver's License in Mexicantown to save time - however, if your intent is to save time that's not going to happen in that SOC Office.  It's nice to dream though.                 On the second floor of the building are offices for the Mexicantown Development Corporation or some thing like that.  The offices run most of the building.  Inside, at least right now, you would find one banner announcing that you had arrived at the Mexicantown Development Corporation and a sign that says the public bathroom is downstairs.   That's it.

Today was a great visit! The employee was a very arty young girl with fun piercings. She was friendly and definitely took care of me, price wise. I didn't realize that a lot of the things I got were not included in the bag price, my bad. She was so sweet and gave me a great price. Everything was clearly for my classroom. It's a good thing that this place is pretty far from my house and that I try to not be the art teacher who hoards stuff, otherwise this place would be a regular hang it of mine!

This place is amazing. It's like a dust up of DollarTree (but with better prices), Hobby Lobby…read more(the clearance aisle) and MAC crafts in Dearborn (1nce upon a time); with a little Franks (IYKYK) and Goodwill thrown in for good measure. You never know what you'll find nor how much you'll need it until you see it. Get it while they got it (No matter how much you think "nobody else is gonna want to buy this") One person's trash is the next person's treasure. Repurposing at its best with a wonderful cause being supported. The employees are great! I love to see the looks on the faces of children the first time they come in, their mouths fall open like mine probably did.

A small business owner in Detroit stated that she would be presenting a sound bath at their Unwind: A Drop-in Wellbeing Experience. This got my full attention. That was just the tip of the iceberg. They offered chair massages, coaching sessions, coaster making- including with mosaic tiles. Even Pewabic Pottery came to help participants create their own tile. They also provided a delicious breakfast and lunch spread! The ladies who planned organized and represented this business, were professional cordial, and super welcoming! I can't remember the last time I had such a wonderful all-around experience. It was my first time, but it won't be my last time visiting.

It is geared towards women and nonbinary individuals and created a safe and supportive environment for them to grow their dreams and aspirations in, but it is open to any and all who want to check it out! Anyone can have access to the main floor of BasBlue, where there is an INCREDIBLE cafe to get delicious drinks and food from. There is also a ton of seating for you to enjoy your food and drink and to cowork from as well. If you want to become a member, the upper floors are open to you with more collaborative and private spaces for you to enjoy! It is a non-profit organization and just a gloriously safe and intentionally-curated space to foster creativity and amazing vibes. I always feel so at peace and centered when I'm at BasBlue and love to take meetings from here as often as I can! It's located very close to the DIA, but only open during the weekdays. So pay attention to their hours and if you're looking for a great place to work from or are interested in learning more about what a membership here could bring, definitely check BasBlue out!!

This is a very nicely renovated mansion turned into a woman's club. Like a late 1800's gentleman's club, only for women. There is a locker room/workout room/nursing area, but I did not see them because I am not a woman. They have lectures and groups within the club. They have a full kitchen, and the usual food on offer seemed like you would expect at a starbucks or better. They have drinks, coffee, and wine. The wine was higher end. And they use an ordering app so members at different rooms of the club can order easily. Lots of rooms. Dining and lecture rooms, lounge and club type rooms, conference rooms. A large event room. All really nice. There are smaller serving bars on the second and third floors. Depending on age, annual membership is 600 or 1200 dollars. It looked great. Maybe it could have used more restrooms, but that is sort of reaching for something negative to say.
