Smoked Trout
Mitch H.

Was finally able to get the smoked whitefish pate (been trying for three years but always sold out) and it was worth the multiple attempts to finally get it! Service there was fantastic and Karen, the owner, even let us try some smoked trout. Which we of course got a piece as well. Besides the smoked meats their selection of steaks and homemade sausages are really great! This is a staple place to go on my annual family trips up from Ohio.

oops, upside down.. smoked whitefish sausage, salmon pate, smoked trout.

Find a better smoked meats provider, I dare you. It's local. It's fresh, you can't ask for much more. The Bellaire Smokehouse is a converted garage that you drive up to in a small alleyway. The Owners live in the Victorian house in the front, so you know it's a real mom and pop operation. The owners are super helpful and can help you find the perfect item. Smoked wise the bacon, and various sausages are some of the highlights. They also have normal butcher items like steaks and poultry from time to time as well. The real highlight here though, is the smoked fish. In the land of whitefish and walleye, it's nice to find a purveyor of the goods that re so plentiful. Try a piece of smoked salmon, or trout. But whatever you do BE SURE to get some of the whitefish sausage. This is a unique item, and frankly, one of the best things I can say I've eaten in a while. When I swing into town, this is usually my second stop, after picking up some Short's beer that is. But what makes that plan even better is that the Smokehouse has a small selection of craft and specialty beers that pair with the smoked good quite well. If you're entertaining, pick up a white-fish or salmon pate to kick the party off right. Along with the meats, they have a good selection of cheese, crackers and other snacks to make for a wonderful day out on the boat.

This wonderful 'up north' establishment is more than a place to get outrageously wonderful smoked delights- it is a landmark. A trip to the region is NOT complete without stopping for a pound of smoked whitefish dip (that will run you more than $17.00). Yes, the smoked salmon is good but the whitefish will make memories for your family - because you'll be talking about it forever. Problem is most of my dip never makes it home because I open it immediately in the car and dip just about anything I have available in it to move it to my mouth. Yum. I would pay double the amount if I had too.

The smoked trout, salmon and cheddar beef sticks were fantastic! Highly recommended and fairly priced!

This store is not just a fish processing, smokehouse and serves takeout dinners which I did not try yet. There are plenty of workers and service was quick. There is no place to sit and eat. It is all takeout. We were here on a Friday morning of Labor Day weekend. A very busy time in Michigan's vacation land. There is plenty of parking in a lot adjacent to the store and on the street but watch out for the crazy bike drivers who think they own the road one of the old guys nearly ran me over because he thought he owned the road or maybe he didn't know how to drive a bicycle. Just the word of caution. Will I return? Yes, because it's the only fish, fresh fish, store within 50 or 60 miles of Frankfort. I compare fish processing outlets, to a business just outside Mackinaw city named Big Stone Bay Fishery. We were not in looking for a place to eat just for some fresh fish, and some smoked fish. I think that Big Stone Bay Fishery accommodates the customer better. for instance, they freely provide the customer with ice for the trip back home to the Detroit area.

This review is far overdue as we were there back in early July while on a road trip. We were just…read moretalking about it and I remembered that I needed to write this review. When we arrived there were no closed signs or anything but they were having a graduation party. Asked about takeout and they insisted that we join the party and wouldn't accept any payment, only accept a donation to the graduate if we wanted to (of course we did). This actually worked to our favor because we don't eat much so we got to sample very reasonable size portions of several options we might not have gotten to if we purchased a full meal to split. Also, since we were traveling, we wouldn't have been able to keep leftovers and would have felt bad about wasting it. It was also nice to meet and chat with folks from the area. It was one of the highlights of our first trip to this incredible state. The barbecue was so good we're still talking about it months later. The meats were exceptional. Perfect seasoning. Perfect smoke. Obviously high quality meat to start with. The sides were very satisfying as they were traditional, but at a very high standard. This was a place that would beat most, if not all of our local southern joints hands down. I don't know if we'll be back in that area again, but if we are this will be one of our stops for sure.

The doors were locked during normal hours, a sign says that they provide catering only now. We were…read morevery dissapointed as there were such great reviews.

Stopped in as we were passing through town and glad we did. the prices are rather high but…read moreeverything is now I guess. But the portions were large, my mother and I split a Ruben and added the fries for an up charge and it was more than enough for us to feel satisfied. The fries were a bit over cooked but the Brisket Ruben we shared was really good. Could have had more saurkraut But it was still very tasty. The meat was cooked perfectly. The ends weren't too blackened, the meat wasn't overcooked. My son got the fancy grilled cheese with an upcharge on the onion rings. He said it was very good. I was hesitant to order a $15 grilled cheese but he said it was worth it. My husband, who never likes anything said the chicken tacos were the best he's had since we moved to Michigan two years ago. Although they had no salsa (which...if you are serving tacos, you should probably have) but they brought some pico, which didn't look all that great, to be honest. Just looked like chopped up tomatoes and onions, not even a little saucy, but overall, we thought the food was pretty good. Wouldn't say the service was outstanding but our server was competent and not unpleasant) although I went to the bar afterwards to see if I could get some coffee to go and the lady behind the bar never acknowledged me so I left. To be fair, maybe she wasn't working the bar, but if not, being told that someone would be with me soon would have been nice. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and we would go back there again.
