There must be hundreds of them all told!…read moreOkay, so that's an exaggeration... but I bet they are not far off numbering somewhere near the triple figure mark! This one is a good one. It is reasonably priced, with specials at around £8.00, and the food is authentic, made with fresh ingredients and care. Lunches are even cheaper, and will cost you about the same, but with a starter included. All the Italian favourites are available including pasta and pizza, and of course, Peroni beer, but there a quite a few items on their extensive menu that you won't see at too many other restaurants, making the place that little bit more special. Unfortunately they share the same penchant for poor quality mosaics, just like Puccini a little further down the road, but as with their competitor, all is forgiven! I would much rather this individual flair and attention to detail than the mass produced mediocrity, that is banal in the extreme, and, replicated with tedious regularity at all of the restaurant chain outlets across the globe! Ten points for trying!

While there are a lot of Italian restaurants in the city Zio Peppino is certainly the most reasonable on price. Where else can you get a starter and main course for £7.95 and a main for £5.95 the a la carte menu offers a dizzying choice of other traditional meals that are still thrifty. Although the styling outside makes it look like a casino this authentic Italian will fill you for less with tasty bites. Check out the albany gallery next door before your meal and feel slightly more cultured for the experience.

I was a little confused at first, I have to be honest, about what kind of food this restaurant…read moreactually serves. The banner above the door just says Zio Pin and I was convinced (having merely glanced at it on the way past) that it served chinese food. I found out to my great diappointment that it was not chinese food when I realised that it's full name was Zio Pin Lucianos... a little more italian to my ear. The Italian flags should also have given me some kind of clue. Anyway, it meant that Zio Pin was starting on a back foot - it wasn't chinese food... okay. But it was good Italian food. It was more authentically (I say this like I know; I've never been to Italy) Italian than places like Pizza Express and the like. The service was also great and the cost was really good. I'd come back here again and again. And again.

Just inside the entrance there's a little bar where you can have a drink before you're seated at your table, which include booths for larger groups. Since the stone baked pizzas at this place are so good (and excellent value) I find it hard to try anything else on the menu - and time and time again I trawl the menu and still return to the pizza. They also do pizzas to take away, which I'd highly recommend over the big chains such as Domino's and Perfect Pizza because their prices are competitive and their pizzas are delicious.

La Trattoria Molisana is a family owned restaurant that serves pretty authentic Italian food, as…read morewell as a few more generic old favourites, like steaks etc. If I eat here I stick to the Italian menu, with a preference for the fresh fish dishes, as a steak house will make the steaks better (I like mine ultra-blue, which most restaurants don't manage to achieve unless they specialise in steaks, which ultimately leads to expensive errors, and one very disgruntled eater! I used to complain, but the evening was always spoilt regardless... now I just avoid the steak options on the menu unless I'm convinced that who I'm ordering them from can do them right... and I remain unconvinced that La Trattoria Molisana can!) It also concerns me that they serve Veal, which I always avoid wherever I am! La Trattoria Molisana are not the best Italian in Cardiff by any stretch of the imagination. But in its defence, there really is some seriously stiff competition, and you don't have to ever go too far to find it. The Dolce Vita on Wellfield Road is a good example. Anywhere else La Trattoria Molisana would be considered fairly good, but, being spoilt for choice in Cardiff, the upshot is that it can only be considered passable. The pizza is usually made well and the fresh fish is just that... fresh! Luckily La Trattoria seems to have a dedicated following as well as access to some great fish, (one of the benefits to being a coastal capital). These two things combined ensure that the stock rotation is quick, so the fish never sits around in the fridges for long. I recommend the trout or the sole. Sometimes I think they get a little too busy for their own good, and this is when problems occur. The kitchen can get overwhelmed and mistakes tend to creep in. But on the whole, I've been pretty happy with the food, and always appreciate the attentive service.

I think it was the best Italian food I ever been to. Family owned. ( and they all so amazing ) They treat every client like he is special. The place is so well done. Clean. The service is so good. Quick. It's a great place for group as well. And the food ? The best. After every meal I also take a desert. Amazing. Amazing. We going there again this Saturday. And I am looking forward to that. My opinion. If you like Italian food. It's the best place in Cardiff.

It's is best to book in advance as it is much smaller than it's competitor Lorenza's. They also offer a takeaway service that features an unusual array of choice and the classic style pizzas. Fresh flavourful ingredients make it a special experience even if you have takeaway it is different to the typical pizzas from Crwys rd other pizzerias. You'll find that a meal can set you back at least £20 each, which is more than I would expect for a restaurant in this location. The restaurant has some pedigree ownership and this makes for a tried & tested formula, which means you'll enjoy the experience.

One of my friends ate there, however, and told me that it was the sister restaurant of Da Mario in the city centre, and that the food was fantastic, so I was persuaded to give it a chance. Going back in the evening it looked far cosier and more appealing. The decor is quite simple and plain, rather than being stuffed with fake plants and memorabilia like many Italian restaurants are, although personally I quite like the latter! Their pizzas are thin, 11-12", and homemade, offering two choices of base (Margherita or Napoletana) plus a wide choice of extra toppings so you can make up your own - but I went for calamari rings for starters (£6.95) followed by Penne al Salmone (£10.95), both of which were delicious. This restaurant offers reasonable value and great service - but I'd probably prefer to go over to Canton to the Italian Way, for its fun, slightly cheesy old-fashioned Italian atmosphere.
