My husband and I also spent a lot of time in the gardens which are absolutely spectacular. There were other guests at the abbey (we learned at breakfast) but we had the grounds pretty much to ourselves, took a million photos. We did wine tasting and tour (thanks to our amazing guide, Giulia!), the old crypts which are now wine cellars are a must during your visit! And we had dinner at the restaurant next door (it was one of the best dinners I've had while in Italy! The food and the views exceeded my expectations). Highly recommend this special place, I will never forget our time here. Oh, and the air was the sweetest, so clean and fresh. I wish we had one more day here so I could do a cooking class (they offer it but I didn't have time).

The B&B is set up in a 1000 year old abbey but with the modern conveniences of plumbing, a business center and swimming pool (no TVs in the room though!). A dip in wonderfully cool water is just the refreshment needed to perk up the stamina on a two week trip. The restaurant next door is quite nice while breathtaking views of the countryside. The easiest way to get here from Florence is to take the train from Firenze S.M.N to Montevarchi for €7. There's a taxi stand outside the Montevarchi train station that will take you to the hotel for €30 (one way). Don't forget to stop by the Prada Outlet while you're in the area :-)

It is a tiny village on the top of a hill in the heart of Tuscany, about 25 minutes from Siena and in the middle of everything fun you'd want to do in Tuscany. The actual B&B has amazing views, private residences, old charm but modern conveniences like full kitchens, washing machines, swimming pool, outdoor grills, wifi and sattelite. They have bicycles you can just borrow and ride around the hills with, they have their own olive oil production and vinyards, and the actual villas have been in the family for 500 years. The B&B owners Gisela and Fortunato are charming, warm, so kind, and will tell you their history and even give you a tour of the original villa and wine cellar if you have time while you're there. And it's affordable. Very affordable! Book early b/c i'ts almost always full (no surprise here) and book for 3 days or more because there is just SO much to do. You will fall in love with Tuscany just like we did. I can't recommend Borgo Rapale enough.

His family tree dates back to the 1500s, so that's a lot of history! Cottage Laura was ideal for our purposes... we loved the seclusion of the Borgo and especially the Cottage, which is a few hundred yards from the Borgo itself, nestled in a grove of olive trees and close by to neighboring vineyards. We loved the quiet and peace of the cottage, the chaise lounges, our own patio and table under a trellis, our own kitchen and laundry (washer). The cottage had everything we needed to prepare meals and enjoy a restful stay. Rapale is secluded but close to everything you may wish to do in Tuscany. Plenty of local restaurants close by if cooking on holiday isn't your thing. The Borgo had a nice pool and foosball table. A water purifier offering still water / water with gas is free for guests. Free bikes are available but we didn't use them. Free firewood for BBQing at your residence but bring matches or a lighter as none was provided. You're staying in the country so insects outside will bother or bite (bug spray helpful) at times and an active population of wild boars reside the area which we heard outside at night. Would return, great value and a restful and enjoyable stay. Luca is a great host.

What a beautiful venue in a beautiful part of Tuscany. We occupied many of the Bed & Breakfast's rooms; some shared rooms and others had rooms or suites to themselves. Il Sole del Sodo is run by the delightful and ever-helpful Claudia, along with Rose and Paola, her terrific staff. The morning breakfast buffet is terrific with lots of delicious home baked goods. The breakfast bar also includes fresh fruit, cheese, and charcuterie, plus eggs for a little extra by request. Four of our group took a cooking class from Claudia; it was fun and the food we made for their dinner was outstanding and authentic Italian. Claudia cooks dinner only a couple of times per week, so be sure to arrange that in advance. We opted for dinner on the day we arrived, and it was a very relaxing dinner in the beautiful and quiet garden patio. The property includes a pool so bring a swimsuit. Because we didn't all have a rental car, Claudia even helped us arrange for transportation during the week. The location is at the bottom of the hilltop town of Cortona and it's a fun hike up to the top of Cortona through the vineyards, horse property, and olive trees. Or you can hike the road but it's not as fun, especially during heavy traffic times. Try to get a room near the pool toward the back of the property as some in our party had rooms on the second floor and could hear some road noise at night. Claudia was very responsive during our months of planning, giving us recommendations for restaurants and other places in the area. Overall, the experience at Il Sole del Sodo was wonderful and is highly recommended.

Sara and her family (the owners) are the absolute most wonderful, helpful people ever in a country full of people in the service industry who leave a lot to be desired in their service. The town of Cortona is an absolute MUST visit that many people don't know about. I tell you this as a visitor having traveled all over Itlaly, from Rome to Naples, from Capri to Venice, from Milan to the Lakes to Portofino and Pisa to Florence, all more than once. This was the BEST OF ITALY!!! Even saw a Hollywood Star. Beautiful town, church, and people.
