While I knew the lab was across the street from Main Campus, I did make one wrong turn before I found where I was supposed to go. They could really use numbers on the buildings to help navigate people. There was only a half dozen people in the waiting area in a huge space that could easily hold hundreds. I checked in at the main desk with two friendly, kind and communicative women. All of my check ins with receptionists have all been positive, and informative/helpful. I completed my urinalysis collection on site and waited to be called. I turned in all my DIY tests and sat to have my blood drawn. I verified my information about a hundred times, but it also helped distract me from the needle. No one likes needles, really. I had 5 vials taken and when she was wrapping up my arm she chose a teal tape to match my shirt. On the previous Monday, the phlebotomist picked pink to also match my shirt. It's the little things that go a long way to make us feel human, rather than a number. Again, I was in and out in no time and felt that I was on the right path to taking care of my own health.

Circa 2010, I started experiencing lumbar back pain. I reached out to Dr. Kevin Martinez, formerly…read morewith Parish Pain Specialists but now with Southern Brain and Spine (see my review) and was treated with a level of respect and empathy that truly surprised me. After a series of tests and scans I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and was given treatment options. The treatment of choice was the Epidural Steroid Injection (ESI), and Southern Brain and Spine uses Crescent City Surgical Center for their procedures. The surgical center is owned and operated by a group of local surgeons and Louisiana Children's Medical Center, and is conveniently located in Metairie. Kudos to having their own parking garage. The facility is immaculately clean, state of the art, and has 8 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms. To say that they provide personalized care is an understatement. From the moment you exit the elevator on the 4th floor reception room, you are courteously greeted and made to feel special; and relaxed, as the staff knows that patients may be anxious and/or nervous. Once you are checked in, a nurse takes you upstairs as a group to the surgical floor, where you will only briefly wait in a waiting room that looks nothing like any hospital waiting room I've ever seen. It is warm and inviting and helps put you at ease. You are escorted in by your pre-op nurse and mine have always been top notch and reassuring. The pre-op nurse takes you to a private curtained room where you change into a standard surgical gown. This is where you review and sign all your consent forms and are hooked up to an I.V. While waiting for the O.R., my doctor and anesthesiologist stopped in to say hello and before you know it, you are being wheeled up to the O.R. Once in the O.R., your surgical team is moving like a well-oiled machine, but a very personable and reassuring team. Once situated on the table, the nurse anesthetist administers you the proper medication and it's lights out in just a few seconds. The next thing you know, you are waking up in recovery from what feels like the greatest sleep ever. Once coherent, the discharge nurse goes over your discharge instructions and gives you a folder with all the documents you signed. You also get a snack and a drink if needed, and they take out your I.V. and allow you to get dressed; with assistance if needed, as it's not recommended to get up unaided. They provide an excellent "to go" goodie bag with chicken noodle soup, chips & cookies and a bottle of water. Lastly, they ensure that you have a ride, since no driving is allowed, and they wheel you down to your awaiting ride. If you've never been here before, you'll get a get-well card in the mail from your team. This is personalized care at its best. Lastly, I'd like to give a shout out to all the people who have cared for me on my many visits here. Apologies for not remembering them all. Reception: Patricia Pre-Op nurses: Melissa (several times), Stacy, Jessi, Patti & Lauren O.R. nurses: Ernie Radiology techs: Barry, Blair & Lauren Nurse anesthetist: Becky (at least twice), Kathleen & Candace Post-Op/Discharge nurses: Janet, Anna, Erika, Donna & Victoria I could go on and on about the team here, as they are all truly top notch. She is a master of her craft and moves at the speed of business, all the while being extremely nice. Last and certainly not least is Dr. Kevin Martinez. He is the rock star of the O.R. He has cared for me for over 14 years now and has kept me from having to have an invasive surgery all this time. There is no one better in my opinion. Credit card and insurance card with you I brought a blanket with me because I always find doctor offices and clinics to be cold I also brought my phone charger with me since you never know how long you're gonna sit and wait. Surprisingly my wait wasn't that long at all What I really appreciated was they had already contacted my usual Walgreens and found out that their system was down So they saved me a trip and I went to another Walgreens to get my prescriptions filled And when you're not feeling good these are the little things that count

The appt was great, I really enjoyed getting to know Charli a little better and they had a super sweet girl in there I had never met so I got to meet her as well. Charli even turned me on to the Color Science voodoo 50 SPF tinted moisturizer, which I bought and ABSOLUTELY LOVE. WELL let's fast forward 3-4 days later and my face was extremely swollen, looked almost like an abcess had formed where I had a blemish that wasn't all the way healed when I went in for my dermablading. Noone said it was an issue so i didn't think it was. Boy was I WRONGGGGGGGG. MY FACE WAS SO SWOLLEN, refer to pictures, on the fourth/fifth day after I had no choice but to go ro Urgent care cause I didn't want to go to the er but it was Sunday and I had to go somewhere. Of course I was right. I had a staph infection on my face. I was given a steroid shot in my hip a steroid to take a home and also Bactrum antibiotic. On Monday is when I went ahead and reached out. So much is wrong with how this place handled me. For one the ONLY person I was allowed to talk to, complain to, was the person that actually did the procedure, Charli. She was apologetic said she would call Katherine and get back to me. At this point i would've bet my life Katherine was gonna call me and so we could talk about this BIG ISSUE. WELL, THANK GOD I didn't bet anyone cause it was actually, you guessed it, Charli thar called me back to say these things happen unfortunately and they would give me my $65 back if I would like. I just had to laugh and hang up. NO LOVE YOU CAN KEEP YHE $65, OBVIOUSLY Y'ALL NEED IT MORE THAN ME. AND im sure there is some truth to the whole, these things happen. When he moved to HCoL we followed (from Orthopedic Center for Sports Medicine). Dr Thomas Lyons is known for being one of the top sports orthopedic surgeon in New Orleans, and for good reason (his clientele list is impressive). His main focus is knees, elbows, shoulders and upper extremity). He is professional yet personable and extremely knowledgeable. So, if you need someone new or don't like the results you're getting. Please take the time, do yourself a favor, to go see him. He will help you. That said, you do not have to be involved in sports to go see this wonderful man. Dr. Lyons does not shame you about your weight. He doesn't embarrass you about your activity level. He wants you happy and he wants you healthy. His empathy for your pain / needs and his love of the human body and how it works is impressive. Of course, like all doctors they want to fit as well. However he will work with you at any level you are at. Dr. L is caring, thoughtful and he will listen to you. Be honest with him and you will satisfied with your results. He will give you clear concise information on how to go forward. Money is not his motivator. He is a man you can trust. More importantly, Dr T Lyons is a man I trust with my body / life, my husband and the health of my loved ones. Hand Center of Louisiana: Our experience in the last 2 years with this operation is top-notch too. The appointments run on time, They are a well-oiled machine. They process the paperwork like they're supposed to. Everything is good, safe , clean, friendly. I would say, your first time there, the "flow" is odd (because its new to you and the floor is split by elevator), so ASK the first person you see and they set you on the right course. I wouldn't expect Dr. L to be with some affiliated with a place that was not of his high standard. Which brings me to if you need surgery. TAKE the option go to the Omega Hospital (see my separate review). Even though it's probably out of network, they will work with you, and in some cases wipe your entire patient portion. It's a boutique, your partner has a quiet space to help you recover. It's small and the one on one from the RN and staff cannot be matched. They had me walking 30 minutes after surgery and I have not stopped since . (but YOU have to do the work too!) I promise to edit this review soon, but I've been wanting to write it for some time (over a year, wish I could blame covid, but just to busy 'cause my knee works!). He did an amazing job w/ ground meat and my friends is playing tennis, dancing etc today. In 2003-4 my husband (retired oilfield) was having neck shoulder issues, I told him there was only one guy I could recommend, Dr Thomas Lyons. Of course he did not disappoint. Since that time hubby has had shots and both knees cleaned out. Great experience all times. Since that time he has recommended Dr. L several times to co-workers, and he has yet to let them or us down! From 2008, I did knee (chicken shots), then "cleaned out", after years of bone on bone, and waiting until I moved back to Nola, Dr L performed my total knee replacement in 2020. It was perfectly done by Dr Lyons, and I haven't looked back since. Last week in Cancun I played volleyball all day, and danced all night. Giving Dr Lyons most of the credit. Husband went to see him for rotator cuff issues shoulder neck received a couple shots, after he met Dr Lyons working in the oilfield, he came a lot he highly recommended Dr Lyons to many people who ended up using him. All with very successful happy results. Through the years I've had friends tennis players, bike riders who need someone and I send them to Dr Lyons, I have referred him for decades. We have never heard, (I wouldn't even say a bad word) I haven't even heard less than stellar review of the man. You cannot go wrong with Dr Thomas Lyons.
