Edinburgh Beer Bloggers Conference 2013
I was able to attend after winning the Yelp giveaway ticket for this weekend of #EBBC13 Beer Blogging.
Zephyr Adventures has brought this international conference to Edinburgh after a great success in London last year. Yelp was one of the major sponsors too
This was a very good organised event and a first for me of this kind.
It was held in the Ghillie Dhu Auditorium. This venue is brilliant for medium scale events like this - about 80 congress goers. Vendors had plenty of space to show out their wares and introduce themselves and their beers.
A clear agenda was set and clearly visible to every participant.
The round tables were fully provided with plenty of glassware, buckets and napkins. Water was refreshed very often.
It was clear that many people needed electricity for their various gadgets, laptops and cameras. They provided charging points at the back of the room.
We got to try out the beers from different breweries and they were happy to supply information and history about their beers and brewery.
The organisers and speakers where clearly heard as there were microphones provided which could be used by the delegates to ask questions as well.
The activities included dinners (thanks to Urquell, Fyne, William Bros), beer tastings a brewery trip to Stewarts Brewery in Loanhead, blogging styles panel FAQ and Social Media workshops.
My most enjoyable activity was the Live Beer Blogging.
The Brewers visit your table and introduce their beer and history, answer questions and supply tastings. All this in 5 minutes and then the Brewers move on to the next table. All the while the participants are blogging their immediate experiences and knowledge gained on these beers at the same time. Very fast and furious but I encountered some good beers that I will certainly keep as a staple in my fridge. (yes this include the Mayan from Ilkley Brewery and the Oloroso Cask from Innus and Gun)
A big thank you is to the head brewer of Birra Toccalmatto: Dr. Bruno Carilli - he was very funny and helpful.
I also had interesting experience with the beer and food pairing - Sophie as the first female Beer Sommolier supplied a great introduction to the Beer Academy.
I have had a great time, met quite a few interesting people and I have learnt a lot.
