Alright, on your first visit here you are going to get lost unless you heed my warning and follow these instructions: When you exit off 89 at the light, turn right toward Best Western. Just south are some strips of businesses. Search for the karate studio and art academy, then take a left to go behind them and there's Beehive! I swear, they are trying to hide from someone, and even having visited two years ago, I still couldn't find 'em when I stopped by a few weeks back! Inside, it's an itsy lil' store offering wedges of their cheese by the pound and cheese curds. They also have a few varieties of excellent cheeses not made in house and local Creminelli salami, plus Chocolot candies. They carry a decent selection of Savannah Bee Company bath and body products, and a bit of their own branded merchandise. A variety of local stores sell Beehive Cheese, but it's still fun to stop here as you have access to all their goodies, most importantly, a variety of dreamy cheese curds. I just tried Fully Loaded for the first time: a delightful cheese fortified with High West's Double Rye Whiskey, and wow! That is a new favorite (and I truly adore all their cheeses). It's a little bit sweet, with such an intriguing flavor, and everyone I shared it with remarked that it was especially delicious. Chocolot (based in Ogden!) makes some excellent and beautiful artisan truffles. At Beehive, they also had some of their toffee, peppermint bark, and chocolate covered cinnamon bears. I really adore this brand, and it can be difficult to track down, so make sure to snatch up a box (chocolates are $2 a piece, available either as a set of three of six). The truffles vary in each package, and are not marked, but you can find a flavor key on their website: https://chocolot.com/pages/flavors. 4 stars for the shop, which could use a little excitement as it's a tad utilitarian, but 5 strong stars for their most exceptional cheese! They are a little out of the way, but I always forget how close they are to Ogden. Make the time to stop here if anywhere close by. read more

I first heard about Beehive Cheese when my husband and I stumbled upon their booth at the Kendall-Jackson Tomato Festival a few years ago; the cheese was amazing and I bookmarked their Yelp page just in case we ever were in Utah. Fast forward to last week, we were in the area going to Salt Lake City and I made sure that my family stopped in to pick up some of the amazing cheese! We ended up sampling Tea Hive and Sea Hive; both were great but I wanted my Barely Buzzed! I got my BB, my husband picked out the Hatch Chile, my Dad got the Smoked Apple Walnut, and my Mom picked out the Promontory. We also bought some crackers from Marin County (which we laughed about since we live in Northern California). Everyone loved the cheese but I think Barely Buzzed won hands down with the group! All 4 cheeses lasted about 2-3 days between the four of us and I can't wait to get my hands on BB again (they just started selling it in my area!) read more

Huzzah for Beehive Cheese! I've had the opportunity to tour the place. Seen behind the curtains, if you will. And while it's quite the impressive facility, it's still such a cute little cheese company that you can't help but root for the little guy. The cheese itself is delicious, and made more delicious when they apply one of many rubs to give it unique tastes. The Barely Buzzed is rubbed in coffee and lavender. Teahive in black tea and Bergamont oil. Seahive has honey and salt rub, and my personal fave is either Big John's Cajun (a cayenne pepper based seasoning) or the apple walnut smoked cheese. I am capable of consuming large amounts of either of those. Check out the website or store to see the full line. While you may not be able to take a tour of the facility here, do step in to the small cheese and local goods shop that they operate. It's small, but darling and offers a good selection of local stuff beyond their cheese. You can also shop their website or look for a local retailer. The shop and is a little hard to find--it's behind the row of businesses that are visible from the road. Take Highway 89, and just after you pass under I-84 (or as you approach it if you're coming from the north) turn into the shopping area on the east side of the road. You'll take that road until it wraps around and parallels I-84 going east and see a few business fronts. Great little cheese shop- and you've got to try the espresso and lavender cheese (barely buzzed). I'm a coffee hater. Can't stand the stuff- but this cheese? It's amazing. I thought it was actually lavender and cocoa- I really couldn't taste whatever it is in coffee that I don't like, in this cheese. I could eat this cheese every day. I just love Beehive cheese. read more

This cute little cheese company was right across from our hotel in Ogden. We saw signs for "Fresh Cheese Curds" and knew we had to visit. Cheese curds are little little bundles of cheesy heaven. And the squeeking sensation is unlike anything else. It's so... fulfilling! This company has a cute little gift shop that sells the cheese (and curds) produced there, along with other local jams, honey, and goods. The curds were excellent and I'd definitely recommend them! read more

Great Utah cheese. the coffee buzz and the Cajun squeaky cheese are my favorites. Featured at local and SLC restaurants and stores, Beehive cheese is the Napa valley of cheese in Ogden. It iss a little hard to find at first but once you get there you'll be back for more local cheese. read more

You know the expression, "You only get one chance to make a first impression?" This place failed miserably. Lots of things about this place that don't quite jive with the claims made on their website. First of all, they advertise "free samples" on their website, but when I asked about that, the young lady said, "well, I can open one for you to try." Not what I'd call "free samples". The cheeses are too expensive to buy and hope. How can you buy something that costs that much (for the size of the slice you get) without knowing how it tastes? Then I was amused by the way they describe their location. It's "within walking distance" of both owners' houses, and their children can walk to the factory to help out. I had this picture of a place in the country, surrounded by farms and all that. Not so much. It's basically in the middle of a small industrial park. There was no sign of houses anywhere in the vicinity. The website says that they make cheese Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and that you can get curd "fresh from the vats" after 2 PM on those days. Not true. I was there on a Thursday and asked about when they made their curd and the girl said, "Mondays or Tuesdays, but you have to call in advance to find out which day." They vacuum-pack their curd! NOT the way to package good curd. You CAN buy a bag of curd but it's very expensive. As I said, I was there on a Thursday and they did have some curd: from Monday. You can't honestly sell curd that's four days old and hope to expect any amount of squeakiness. I bought 3 varieties: very small slices, about 100 g each plus a bag of curd, which cost me $21. For that I got old curd, and some cheese that was nothing special, in my view. I certainly won't go back. If you want good cheese at a reasonable price, drive another hour or so north to Logan UT and visit Gossner's. Now THAT is good curd: fresh every day too. Plus they have a great selection of cheeses. read more

I found this cheese at the Park City Farmers Market. It's amazing! I bought a rare blend called "Moo-Baa". I highly recommend this cheese and will now make the Farmers Market my main place to go and buy not only fruits and veggies but CHEESE! =) read more

Beehive Cheese Company is a unique cheese company with a limited cheese selection. I love fresh local cheese as I had three years of cheese in cache valley while at school. As Beehive Cheese Company is a smaller cheese place compared to Gossner's which I still prefer to Beehive. The store has short hours and is smaller than I thought, but has a little selection of local products. I will have to try one of the jalapeno jellies they carry there one time. Squeaky cheese is fair with plain, smokey jalapeno, habanero, Cajun, and cinnamon flavors. I could only try the first four as cinnamon does not appeal to me. All I can say is that the habanero, smokey jalapeno, and Cajun were a let down. Cajun had a unique flavor to it and is not for everyone. Habanero was too weak in the package we got, really wanted more heat. Smokey jalapeno had a nice smokey flavor with a lack of jalapeno punch in my opinion. Plain was good but pricey. Love local foods and will still go here for some of the different cheeses like apple walnut cheese. The granola is really good as I got to sample some the day I went here. Worth buying every so often, but there are better cheese places in Utah. read more
