Is it morbid to review a funeral home? Maybe. But we're all mortal so it's a service we all have to…read moreuse. I don't see a benefit to continuing the culture of opacity in the funeral service industry, so here we are. Overall, the owners and staff at Sisk Brothers are very warm, empathetic, and exceptionally transparent on fees / costs. They were very clear about the timeline, pricing, etc. when asked, while still being sensitive to the delicate situation. Moreover, my family is Buddhist and Vietnamese, and while they don't have much experience with ethnic / non-Christian ceremonies, they were incredibly accommodating to our specific needs (which included us bringing in a monk, lighting incense, playing prayer tapes, etc.) They also let us borrow an umbrella on our way to the cemetery. My primary complaint is around the death certificate. Perhaps in an effort to be sensitive / less sterile, the funeral home doesn't give you the actual death certificate to complete before they submit it to the town of Hamden. So you get this sanitized cream card that they then presumably transfer onto the official death certificate. However, the card they give you is not entirely comprehensive of all of the fields on the official death certificate, so the funeral home took some liberties in filling out fields, which they than had to print corrections. This includes marking my dad's race / ethnicity as being "White" (yes, my Vietnamese dad - I was confused as to how both the masses of Vietnamese people and Buddhist ceremony didn't give away the fact that he might NOT be White?) and misspelled his birth place in Vietnam, didn't include his education level or job, etc. All of this could have been avoided had they just had us proofed the death certificate before filing it with the city. The death certificate is now marked up with all of these corrections, which is just so upsetting / painful / sad every time I look at it. A very unfortunate, insensitive situation. Because I'm their first review, I didn't want to give them 3 stars. They're generally regarded as one of the best / the best in Hamden so don't let this deter you. I was overall glad we used them and would do so again but very much regret the death certificate situation.

Absolutely horrible and heartless at such a trying time for families. A representative for this…read morefuneral home met me at the door around March 6 with no smile, no sympathy or feeling. I don't even think this employee took a moment to say he was sorry for my loss. Once upstairs, he immediately started speaking of pricing, letting me know that "freezers and electricity cost money so you have to hurry up and decide what you want to do." Thanks B.C. Bailey funeral home for now placing the image of my young daughter in a freezer in my mind, as if I wasn't already suffering and grieving enough. He put tremendous pressure upon me to decide what my next move was going to be, stating that I would not find a better price elsewhere. I excused myself and left in tears. And I did in fact find a funeral home with a heart and with better prices. I felt bullied and uncared for. I could not imagine having a service for my loved one under the direction of this funeral home.

Bailey, were throughout the whole process. There are so many things to think about in planning a service and it's often difficult to think clearly when you are grieving. B.C. Bailey anticipated everything that we would need, before we even knew we needed it. They handled every detail, no matter how small. The entire staff is genuine, caring and so very kind. They went out of their way to make a difficult time in our lives so much easier. If there were more than 5 stars to give them, I would do it.
