For a girl who doesn't love BBQ, Becky's is pretty great and my boyfriend likes to make sweet, dirty tongue love to her ribs and BBQ sauce. I'm not a fan of any of their BBQ sauces, but the quality of their meat is fantastic. I'm not usually a chicken fan, but even I can appreciate theirs. It's moist, it's crispy, it's well seasoned. Just all around good. Their pulled pork is really dry and reminds me of refried beans. Even though there a squirt bottles of BBQ sauce on the table, I still expect something that looks fresh, like it just came from a crockpot or something, not like it's been sitting out on the counter or under a heat lamp drying out. But who knows, maybe that's authentic BBQ? In any case, I don't want to hate too much because overall, most of the food is really great here, and despite my opinions, my boyfriend love, love, loves this place. Don't make the same mistake I did, make sure to get the pulled pork. Although the bbq chicken leg I had was good, When I tried my sister's pulled pork sandwich I realized that I had made a mistake. Outstanding BBQ. My husband's originally from NC, so he knows BBQ and pulled pork, both excellent! The slaw is also very authentic with a lite sweet vinaigrette and not a heavy mayo sauce. I have had better barbeque only in Memphis and Jackson, Georgia. They have a vinegar and tomato based barbeque sauce on the table. I can say this is pretty good BBQ for being in RI. The pulled pork is pretty good. I usually get the rib tips when I go for lunch, the serving size is pretty generous. I do enjoy the baked beans and fresh corn bread too. They also make southern sweet tea with corn syrup not sugar - which I hear is the true way to make sweet tea. If you live or work in the area ask for thier meal deal card - i think its "buy 10 lunches get one free" or something like that. I'm on my second card now... read more

Loved this place. I'm a Navy guy from Oklahoma and got a sudden craving for BBQ, and found this place on Yelp! Just a stone's throw from base, but I'd drive farther for BBQ like this. The dining area has a homey, "mamma's kitchen" feel, with 3 different sauces on the table for you. Cool country decor, but I promise all you'll be thinking about is the delicious BBQ aroma coming from the kitchen. I had the BBQ pulled chicken dinner. It comes with a generous portion of meat, 2 sides, and cornbread. I had beans ands shed potatoes. Chicken - unbelievably tender, juicy, perfectly smoked, and plentiful Beans - not a huge fan, I'll try the coleslaw next one Potatoes - REAL. It's review is long overdue. Becky's BBQ is soooo good! We always order the pulled pork, pulled brisket and potato salad to go. The brisket is not your typical sliced brisket. Most of the fat has been removed so it's ready to go right on a sandwich. The brisket and pork are both really good. I'm picky about potato salad. I usually make my own mustard potato salad but once I tried Becky's I started ordering theirs. It's not a mustard potato salad but it's also really good! We've ordered from Becky's probably 8 times in the last year and the food has been consistently fantastic! The staff is also super nice. read more

Found this place on yelp and was curious to try it. When you first look at it, this place is so small. Yes, very small place, but the momemt we started eating, my gosh. Pulled beef brisket was so delicious. Ribs were good too. Even the corn tasted amazing. Above all, the pecan pie, aaah!! mouth watering! Decent BBQ. The "pulled" meats appear as though they weren't off the fire that same day. The ribs could be great, but they keep the "silver skin" on the ribs which makes me think they are smoked and stored a day or two if they don't sell. Please remove the silver skin prior to serving. Very sweet baked beans should almost be mixed with the very vinegar flavored coleslaw. "Smashed" potatoes lack real flavor. Throw in some salt, garlic and a touch of butter and they can become delicious. Finally(and it's a personal preference), when I order bbq, I would love to see an offering of a homemade mac n' cheese. If I'm skipping veggies, I want to do it right. read more

DUH-LICIOUS! I have been coming here for the past 6 years since we discovered it, and when I took my boyfriend to have his Becky's cherry popped, he said he hadn't had this good of BBQ since his time in South Carolina. The place is small, but its such an awesome little spot. I really don't even mind that the windows look out to the parking lot or whatever. I am too busy enjoying my delicious meal. Wow! I'm from Texas and this meat just might have to be a top contender for my last meal on earth! Plus, I don't even usually eat meat, last time I did was the day after I got married. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because although the beans were good, it seemed like it was just kidney, baked and lima beans thrown into a crock-pot, the smashed potatoes were just ok. Hubby had the corn and that's just what it is (but it says it on the menu, I think) Oh wait! And they have SWEET TEA!! Absolutely delicious. We got takeout two 1/2 chicken dinners (for under $20) and loved it. The chicken is smokey and moist and really yummy (not drowned in sauce) -- plus their side BBQ sauce (I had the sweet one) was the perfect complement. Best BBQ I've had in RI! No frills, paper plates and plastic silverware, canned beverages and simple menu in a VERY small dinning area. Not ideal for a group or during their busy lunch hours but luckily they offer take out! My boyfriend and I each got a pulled pork lunch plate which comes with one side and corn bread. They also office BBQ chicken, pulled chicken, pulled beef (and probably more I can't rememeber) with side options of corn, potato salad, BBQ baked beans, etc.... We both got the beans and were not disappointed! The two meals and 2 sodas were under $14. Can't beat it! They also have 3 sauces on all the tables which were all delicious in their own way. We had a pulled pork and pulled beef sandwich. Both were delicious. My husband liked the beef the best. It was very tender with a lot of flavor. I liked both equally. The meat was tender and lean and not over cooked and mushy. Just the right amount of BBQ sauce was added. They even offer it pulled w/o sauce. We will be going back to try some dinner plates. Camouflaged in as a dark brown house on East Main Road in Middletown, Becky's BBQ is one hard place to find. If it wasn't for the guys I work with who all grew up on Aquidneck island, I would have never found this place. I've tried almost everything on the menu here and its all damn tasty. I personally guarantee you won't be disappointed with a pulled pork sandwich and a couple of their homemade sides (try to stuff down some cornbread if you have room too). The majority of Becky's business seems to come from catering and takeout, the small sit in dining room (maybe 15 seats) usually has room to sit down for a quick lunch. Even if you have to wait a few minutes for a seat to open up, its worth the wait for the amount of food you get for the unbelievable price. If you work anywhere in the Aquidneck island area this is definitely the local spot to grab one of the best lunches in town. read more

Strange place to find excellent barbecue. Middletown seems to be the real food haven for the Newport area. Excellent food at a reasonable price. I'm so glad I found this place. I would've given it 5 stars but I had 2 small problems with it. Let me get the bad stuff out of the way first. For one, the place is tiny. There are a few small tables but none big enough to fit more than 3 people comfortably; especially if you have a big appetite. The tables are too small to fit all that yummy food and its fixins. The locals seem to know this and usually do the take out. It you're visiting, like I was, do yourself a favor and do the take out. Secondly, (and I'll whisper this part) they microwave their orders after wrapping them up in plastic wrap to heat up the meats. I know, BBQ taboo. BUT... The food was delicious. Beggars can't be choosers and on that little island, this place is a culinary blessing. Authentic barbecue taste. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious with a good smoky ring and taste. The pulled pork was fine but chicken was surprisingly good. They give you 2 sauces-a vinegar based and a molasses one. I loved the vinegar based one. The beans were delicious (nice smokey taste) and the corn bread was descent. Overall, a nice barbecue joint. Tasty enough that all you'll be left with is meatless bones strewn all over the place and barbecue sauce dripping off your fingers and chin. read more

I just stopped in and had 1/4 rack of ribs and 1/4 lb of brisket and I couldn't have enjoyed the bbq more. The meat fell right off the bone. The NC sauce gives a nice kick. Good food at a good price. I can usually get a meal with two sides and a drink for less than $10. They also do catering. 1 star deducted for the parking situation. When it is busy there is no place to park and the drive way to the back is one lane only. If someone is pulling out that way, you have to wait to go in. When we pulled up, it felt like driving to your grandma's house after she got run over by a reindeer 20 years ago. It is a house turned into an eatery. There is a big pile of wood in the back and it comes complete with a broken down truck just parked there. You get inside and there is a guy at the counter, a few tables and country music. Nothing fancy at all. We ordered a full rack of ribs, a whole chicken and a dozen wings with mashed potatoes, beans and corn as sides. Everything was just so damn delicious. The meat is slightly smokey, tender and flavorful. The corn bread was like cake and had to go order extras of them. This is some serious eatin' place- no ambiance, no service, and have to bust your table at the end but if I lived near this place, I would definitely be a regular. read more

Becky's BBQ is the type of place you'd expect to find on the side of a highway, somewhere in the South. It's good straight-forward BBQ, not great, but solid enough. Chicken was a little on the dry side, but the sauces are compatible. BBQ beef is just that. You'd never know that it was brisket. I didn't, I had to ask what type of beef it was. But, it is as advertised, and for the price point, you can't go wrong there. The highlight for me, not having tasted the pulled pork, were the ribs. They were pull of the bone tender and flavorful. Not real sure if there was even a rub on them. If there was, it was minimal. Again, a pretty straight-forward item, but certainly a quality rib. I agree with another review, that with a couple of tweaks, they could be a 5. They are really closer to a 3.5 rating at this point. Either way, if you're looking for some solid takeout or just looking to get your BBQ fix on, you've found the place.
