A lot happened here, so please bear with me and take my words to heart. Small things first: The place was filthy when I moved in. I filled out their move-in paperwork saying so, but they didn't care. The laundry facility is pretty lacking. There was a major water leak in my dining room ceiling that caused extensive drywall damage. That damage took over a month to repair because MSV's single inexperienced handyman (their "maintenance staff") had no idea what he was doing. He also didn't wear a mask during the height of the pandemic and didn't always give 24-hours notice before entering. The source of the water leak, which poured gallons of grey, rancid water into my living area, was neither explained nor repaired. There were regular leaks in the hallway area from the loud, defective water heater next door. This also went on for months until they decided to replace the water heater. Every time maintenance came to suck the water out of my carpet, it was always the same dirty, grey, chocolate milk water. Because of these leaks (caused by what I suspect are building-wide structural issues), I had recurring and persistent BLACK MOLD in my apartment for several months. It was present in almost every room, but the worst of it was in my bedroom. After I called an Athens City Code Enforcement Officer to inspect my apartment, he issued 3 separate building code violations to Mill Street Village. The property manager, Tina, is typical Athens slumlord material. She and her staff were chronically clueless, rude, and untimely. She never knew what was going on when it came to repairs. As long as my rent was paid, she couldn't care less. She refused to provide contact information for the property owners. She even attempted to lie her way into keeping the remainder of my security deposit. The live-in employee, who acts like an RA in a college dorm, is an invasive, off-putting creepazoid who needs to know exactly who your guests are and how long they're staying. You aren't given guest parking passes at MSV, so you essentially have to ask this guy for PERMISSION to have a guest. Better hope he's not out of town or your guest's car will get towed. When the pandemic hit and we were not able to do the volume of business we had previously done, they gave us a break on our rent, which was much appreciated and has helped us stay in business.
