My husband and I left the bar tonight because the volume was too loud. I know, I know - you're envisioning sixty-five year olds but we're only 32 and 34. Maybe that's old enough that their core demo outweighs us, but we were so looking forward to watching RuPaul's Drag Race tonight. It's my birthday and this was part of our night out planned to celebrate. But 30 minutes into the show and we couldn't handle the volume any longer. I know you'll think I'm exaggerating, but I assure you I say this with no hyperbole: both of our ears literally hurt from the excessive volume. Even with our ears firmly plugged, we could hear clear as a bell everything that happened on the screen. The volume really seemed excessive. There were never any moments when we were anywhere near missing something said. Expect wrong drinks from the bartenders (it's not their fault! They have to climb over the bar to get close enough to hear what you're saying). Expect to not be able to talk or even make one-off comments with your friends. Verbal communication is a no-go when the show is on. When they switch to music videos during the commercials, it's better and more reasonable... but someone thinks that the TV must be at ear-splitting levels when the show is on. I know this is probably tilting at windmills, but I hear time and again from my friends who are small business owners and entrepreneurs to please please please tell management when there's a problem. The death of a small business is customers who walk away with a specific complaint and never say anything about it, never to return again. If we never say anything, management never has any way to fix it (if they want to). You go to a nightclub and expect it to be loud. We were there for the last season of RPDR and it wasn't nearly this painful. Hearing loss is real, yall. But we can't go back. The drinks were great. The atmosphere is fun. The price is right. But we can't stand there while our ears feel like they should be bleeding for 90 minutes. We won't be back until we hear the volume has been made a bit more reasonable. Oh, and to top it all off - the email address doesn't work. I emailed management, not because I really think they (or you, dear reader?) care... but I emailed them because *I* would want to know if I were part of management. I go out in the Castro often but rarely visit Beaux. However, I went to Beaux today with a group of friends and the bartender Mark was so much fun and made the best cocktails. We weren't sure what to drink but he informed us of all the specials and offered to customize drinks to our taste. He convinced us to stay for Family Feud with Carnje Asada which was so much fun! I highly recommend going to Beaux for Jackpot Sundays! read more

Beware of VINNY the server! Apparently BEAUX deletes reviews on here because I posted mine a week ago and now its gone but I will keep writing the review so that people don't fall for the scam like I did. As I said in my other review, the food and drinks are good. The drag show on Sunday was great! Props to all of them for putting on a great show. However, the server named "Vinny" is terrible. He tried to over charge us drinks that we did not drink. Although it was only one extra drink, it was the way he went about it. After he admitted that we had four drinks instead of five, he looked at the bill and realized he charged for five drinks. Instead of admitting his wrong doing, he stated " well you are too drunk to know what's really going on so just pay it". TERRIBLE way to talk to a client. I actually wish I was drunk so that I wouldn't have had to remember the way he talked to us. Very condescending and unfriendly. The table next to us was also having problems with him too. We tried to talk to the manager but the establishment told us he was "gone" for the day. Again, I highly recommend the drag show Sunday but BEWARE if your server is "VINNY" he will try to scam you. We were very excited to visit this bar nearby Castro, even paid the $20 cover charge. It was a huge mistake as this bar was uncomfortable, cramped and the staff was not friendly. Out of all the bars and dance clubs in the Castro, I would say this is the best one. Prepare to pay a cover charge and a coat check. Drinks are a little pricey so I suggest pre-gaming before and just buy one or two when you go in to keep your buzz going. Beaux plays decent music. Most of them are remixes though. There are two floors. The first floor has two areas where there are go-go dancers and two different bars. The bartenders usually are quick and you would wait less than 5 minutes to get your drink even if it was packed. The second floor also has a bar area with some seating. The bathroom wait isn't that bad. They have 6 toilets and the line goes by fast. Trust. There's also water provided for people next to the main bar which is convenient! read more

From a straight guys perspective, Beaux wasn't THAT bad; Lemme explain. I have been coming to this venue, on and off, since it was trigger. Sure, sometimes it was intentional while most was a fluke (see: after lime or dollar drinks at Qbar). I had a friend who was a bartender, the crowd was mixed and the music was good. Fast forward three years. Beaux, although similar to trigger, has its own identity. Dance-y music, ass-less underwear'd dudes and sloppy straight girls yelling "THIS IS MAH SONG!!!"; Just another night in the Castro, AMIRITE!? two things that stuck out at Beaux for me: ample seating and nice bartenders. This is a reflection point in life - when you go to a club and find yourself happy you can sit down and talk and not be forced to dance to be bumped by said dancers. Next thing you know ill be yelling at kids to get off my lawn, who knows. The bartenders, although busy and flustered for the most part, served graciously and with a smile.... Same things cant be said for most clubs I go to. Now, I won't find myself wondering "hmmm, where should I drink tonight. AH. Beaux has nice bartenders, IM THERE!"...but it is a nice touch and a lost craft, especially in San Francisco. Fellow breeders (is that even PC?), don't fret. Stop trying to make LA happen...it's not going to work! Monday evening I walked in with a friend to check out the new space. Gathering information I read from Castro Biscuit and other blogs, it sounded like the design was going to be remarkably different from Trigger. Yeah, not so much. Negatives: As Nick B. stated, this is Trigger 2 point oh my God what the heck did they do?! The bar is still in the middle of the space, an added bar on the north east wall is going to be a major hassle to navigate without a railing separating it from the dance floor, and the balcony still makes you feel as if you're in a basement with low ceilings. Lighting above the bar is hideous...and yes, they do look like street lamps. Positives: The dance floor lighting is exceptional, the sound system is crisp/clear, they've added a bar upstairs and they've gotten rid of smoking room for added space. I just don't see myself coming back. What I do see are plenty of Marina girls and bros taking this space over and claiming it as their own. The real issue with Beaux is that the LA look with an SF address always fails, and it currently has no real identity. Hitting up Beau on Pride Sunday was crazy. Loved the booty shakin' music, the cool lower dance floor, the neat-o upper area where you can converse or judge people, and the shiny ab-licious gogo dancers with teeny teeny shorts hugging their huge, bulging, ya know, quadriceps. There was no coat check. BUT there was a couch next to which I parked my things and a table-type box thingie on which I could dance with my friends while making sure my precious jacket, tin of mints, and three tampons didn't walk away. I had fun! It was fun. Dancing, laughing, drinking half a drink really slow as I'm allergic to alcohol, talking, being hugged by drunky people, falalalala "Oh! I need to use the bathroom! Be right back!". NO. The bathroom? DISGUSTING. The moment I stepped into the stall my mind calculated that there was exactly a 100% chance of pee and other undesirable fluids getting all over my clothes if I even began to attempt to use the facilities. Toilet paper and wetness and soggy-ness EVERYWHERE. Everywhere. Clearly a place mostly inhabited by men and not meant for a person who has to sit down or pull anything off. Draining the lizard, YES. Draining the clam, NO. Perhaps there was another, cleaner bathroom elsewhere but this was the one I was pointed to. Thusly and therefore, really fun joint and a great place to dance, but if you have a clam try to remain in a constant state of slight dehydration or wear a short skirt and come armed with a shewee. I really wanted to like this place but my third and last visit was horrible. There were 25/30 people in the establishment and one bartender available when I approached the bar to get a drink. Long story short... I waited for 12-13 mins with an empty bar as the available bartender was having a conversation with a female patron. I then moved to the other side of the bar only to get a cold shoulder. I talked to the manager (Joshua) and expressed my dissatisfaction. He offered to make my drink but at this point I was already annoyed and left the bar. I do wish them well! Don't want Hi Tops or Blackbird to get too crowded. read more

Stopped by Beaux Saturday night with some friends to check it out. I was impressed from the moment I walked in. It's a little dark, but the atmosphere is nice. The music isn't too loud, so you can actually talk to your friends and the music is enjoyable. One of the bartenders wasn't exactly the nicest guy in the world, which was a but annoying, but there's one of those in every bar. I hear a lot of people compare it to Trigger, but I had never been there, so I couldn't say, but it is nice to finally have a nicer bar in the Castro where you can go have an after work drink or pre-dinner drink with friends. read more

When I first moved to San Francisco in 2014, Beaux was the first Bar/Nightclub my friend had taken me to. We got there around 8pm and the ambiance was that of a Fancy Cocktail Lounge. Beautiful Lighting, Lively Music, Comfortable Furniture, as well as an obviously well stocked array of Liquor. After 9, the DJ arrived and the venue transformed into that of a nightclub within the hour. I was quite impressed with how seamlessly the vibe transitioned. All the details were thoroughly examined. My compliments to Joshua J, Alexis as well as Tim and Jeff for all the behind the scenes work they went through to create and Establish Beaux to what it stands as today. The Bartenders are all incredibly fun and go through extensive training to assure they are the best. They pour regular as well as specialty craft cocktails throughout their entire shifts while maintaining a fun attitude. If you go in during happy hour, Sebastian, Gavin or Vinnie will provide you with Entertainment while you hangout. If you go in during the evening, know what you want by the time they get to you. It get's super busy that you don't want to be the customer that stops the flow. I also highly recommend making sure you make your way to the rubber absolute mats around the bars. That is generally the spot where you are most likely to be served the fastest. They're all incredibly fast, especially Sasha. If she likes you, she may throw a hair flip in there. ;) Another note. If you stand in the corner yelling at the bartender while waiving your money in the air, I assure you that is not the way to get service. As for the Bar Backs and Security, they all work as a synchronized unit. If someone gets kicked out, it's because they acted a fool and deserved it. They all keep an eye out for extremely drunk and belligerent people. Then the Gogos and Drag Queens provide the Entertainment. You may Find the Fierce Carne Asada on Thursday as well as the Sassy Au Jus on Sunday. Both of them are quite entertaining. Just make sure to bring you cash..... Last week I went to "Manimal Fridays" at Beaux for the first time, and it was absolutely outstanding! There was a decent amount of people there but as we walked in, my friends and I were greeted by a buff bartender with a Hello Kitty tattoo. I cannot express to you how awesome this guy was. Not only did he immediately offer to make us drinks, he was exceedingly kind, energetic, and had a great sense of humor. Having this sort of accessibility and great customer service makes an outstanding impression. I am glad we made it to Beaux as it was not a disappointment. With this place being in Castro's spotlight and without the attitude I was expecting-my entire group was blown away. I noticed that I only wrote reviews for ass places so in order to not be a super negative person, I'm going to write about an awesome experience. I was tired as hell from working and got invited to Beaux for ladies night, 2 for 1 drinks, no cover. Hell yeah. And my friend was working at coat check, so screw it -- turn up on a Monday night. To start off: the bouncer. My dude. You were super cool. My friend has a habit of getting to know bouncers and all and, I gotta say, this guy is like the cream of the crop of bouncers. Handled a super drunk guy respectfully and gave him water too. Bantered with me and opened my doors and all. Super chill guy. Next, the go-go dancers. My friends and I have a habit of being real rowdy. We're not the typical chill and mingle. If we go out, we're loud, obnoxious, and (to me) fun. So we're on the floor screwing around about how to do the new dances like flossing and the jumping up and down dance where you coordinate leg kicks and fist pumps? One of our friends wasn't getting it so the go-go dancer came down and literally gave her a tutorial and a dance lesson on how to floss. We died, best go go dancer ever. Lots of dollar bills were put in her various straps. She also converted one of my friends to be a 100% certified ass woman. Thank you. Drinks were cool. Bar service was prompt. NICE BAR BUT CHEAP STAMP!!! My first time here last night. they great space, drinks not bad, very lougy, hot go go's, great music, except for the stamp.Basically, all my friends and I got stamps and after half hour of dancing we left got stuff at the other bar and trying to get back-in and noticed that my stamp was less visible, and don't wanna let us in bc. they said that they're been using sharpie pen all night, and I saw a stamp in the counter and made him try the stamp that they used earlier that night and it was same stamp we got. Its Not that we can't afford the $3.00 charge but its just lame to get a stamp at first and say after that they been using pen all night-Ridiculous. Beaux my god! This place rocks! I went to Beaux one night recently with my friends, and it was a pretty good time. First of all, walking in, it felt like we were in a legitimate, high-end night club. They really did a good number on the place since Trigger was there. I don't mind spending money when I go out, but I expected it to be a bit expensive just by looking at the place, but they have prices that rival even the cheapest bars (and I do mean cheap- Badlands, I'm looking at you). That was a nice surprise. We went to order. They seem to have a pretty good selection of alcohol- super cheap to way top shelf- so that was nice. The bartender was really friendly. His name was Alex? Alexis? I couldn't quite hear when I asked his name. My friend was being a bit of a diva when he ordered, but Alexis was still polite and had a sense of humor during the whole interaction. He didn't give me the impression that he just wanted to sling us some drinks and move on. Very nice. The dance floor was a tad small, but they're doing what they can with the space they have. Overall, I really like the new layout and decor of this place as compared to Trigger. I think people may think this place is too swanky just by looking at it from the outside, but it really is affordable and fun. It's basically what you wish Badlands and The Café would be. Thinking about it, the clientele is probably what killed this place for me. Came here on a Friday, on a first date I thought was going reasonably well. We'd stopped first for dollar oysters at B Restaurant & Bar (which I highly recommend, btw)... Then after a few more drinks, a little making out, and a line of coke that the date stopped to do, he invited me to meet his friends at his favorite bar. This bar. Unsure what happened with the date -- maybe it was the drugs. (He claims he blacked out.) The short story is I ended up dancing with his friend. I must have been twerking too hard because I fell and dislocated my knee. No really. The response of Beaux staff was pretty expected. There I was on the floor with the bass still pounding. No lights were turned back on. One employee came over and walked me through it: "Are you okay? Can you move? Should we call an ambulance?" It was obvious I posed a very real threat to their drink sales by just laying there, helpless. A couple guys carried me to a chair near the front, and there I sat, watching bitchy, after bitchy, after criticizing and scrutinizing looks of gay men who just wanted to get their drink on. I'm not exactly sure what should have happened, but reflecting on it, I am taken just a little aback that almost no one gave a shit. Having said that, the bar employee was puh-lenty nice -- he gave me an ice pack and said supportive things. My date's friend stayed with me until the ambulance arrived. ... as to where my date really went, I guess I'll never know. So the space! I'd been here once before in the daytime. It's pretty cute and small. A seating area off to the left, bar in the middle, and dance floor on the right (where I fell). The bar is dark and lit with lots of Bar Mitzvah-inspired disco lamps. I don't know what is up with reviewers hating on the bathrooms. They look pretty chic and well-maintained. Lots of sand-blasted glass stalls, and no waiting for them. The go-go boys were a bit of a downer. They looked like the kind of stripper with a nice body, but couldn't get a job at the nice bar down the street and does not want to be here, either. I'd arrived maybe at 9:30 p.m., so drinks came pretty fast, and I remember getting two well drinks for $4. Simply amazing. read more

This was thy worst bar I've ever been to! It was my girls friend and I first time in sf at a gay club. We where having a good time, but then one of the bartenders there ruined it for me. I asked for a drink ( not to mention I waited for over 20 minutes and the bartender, skipping me repeatedly ) he asked with attitude I need your I.D. I said to him very politely, the security checked my ID. And yes I knew that he just needs it to find my card on tab. But he says to me really rudely, well I don't know who the hell you are! I finally get my drink only enough to find he made me two drinks. And I know I only asked for one. He charges me, and doesn't even asked me if I ordered two just to make sure, which would've been fine! I signed the for the bill and give no tip. ( who would give such a tip for bad service)! I figured two for one meant that I would order a drink and Amy would order a drink and I would hand over money for one. Nope! I got two, so got two. And my, it was disgusting. So, fine. Let's dance! No. Can't. High tables set up on the dance floor. Ok. Let's o upstairs. Not very populated but there was a nice view of the dance floor. I admit it, we creeped a little. In any event, after sipping on the G&T for a while, I gave up and ordered a bottle of beer. Which tasted minerally/metallic-y. Blah. I asked them to switch it out, which they did, and I appreciated, but the second one tasted the same bad way. Bummer. Anyways, not my scene, very subpar drinks. Great bar for dancing in the Castro made better by the staff, especially the bartender Sebastian. We were in the Castro for an event at the Castro Theater and were checking out the bars in advance. The first visit to Beaux was fine, but nothing special. We ended up going back there because that's where the official after party was for the event. That night we ended up meeting Sebastian who was bartending at the upstairs bar. He recommended one of their signature drinks -- the Beaux Tox -- that was amazing. It was quite a change from other bars that don't like to make drinks with more than a couple ingredients. When we went back the next day, Sebastian greeted us by name and gave great restaurant recommendations in the area. Great service like that is why we ended up going back a third time. Beaux features comfortable seating areas, a large bar (plus another one upstairs) and a balcony area that's great for watching the main floor. Just came here tonight at around 7:10, they had a happy hour till 8 which is a huge plus, but I guess they're new so they're trying to get people in. The vibe was super chill as soon as we walked in, large comfy couches with tables next to large street windows, and two bars. Sat on the first one and ordered their strawberry mojito and dang that was good! Also had a couple happy hour drinks which were $3 each so who's complaining. The bartender was super nice as well, think his name was Alexis? He was the only bartender when we went, the other guy was there just cleaning and watching the bar. Very accommodating and patient with us, and was super friendly. We ended up having 5 drinks which came to a total of $28. A tip, come early for happy hour. Cheap drinks, and a lot emptier than it looked later in the night, so plenty of seating and didn't feel rushed. Even had a cool upper seating, but that didn't look open. The only con is the weird bathrooms, no doors, just an open room straight into stalls. read more

Seriously, my favorite place in SF! The bartenders and staff are genuine, fast, and extremely professional. I really feel a connection to the place every time I go. Matthew is the best! He has excellent bartending skills, he loves his regulars, and super funny. I highly recommend Thursday night's for Carnie Asada's "my so call night" which has all the 90's to early 00's hits which always takes me back. I love this place! I work in the Castro and am more of a "happy hour" kinda girl, which this place is perfect for a couple after work cocktails. It's usually not too crazy busy at that time and there is alway's a cozy seat open on one of the couches, chairs or other seating options. I love how loungie this bar/club is! The bartenders are all great, especially Mac. He's the best! Alway's super friendly and greets me with big smile every time. Not to mention he's very good at what he does. Quick when he needs to be, makes just the right amount of small talk and makes an excellent Bulleit Bourbon with ginger ale (my fav!). I would have to say that Beaux is one of my favorite places to go in the Castro for a drink and to get my dance on. Oh and I love the snack mix that's currently there, don't change it! My friend Emily took me out to this place with her coworkers after a long Monday at SF State. The ambiance was classy and cool, and there were a good amount of people for a Monday night. All I remember is shots after shots. It's awesome to be 21 and get to go to the bars now! The drinks: -CHEAP! First time to this bar and I got ROOFIED. I got out of there without knowing who I was with and super paranoid about all my surroundings. I only had 2 drinks and a bottle of water so you can imagine my confusion when I suddenly started feeling nauseas, dizzy and had a massive headache all at the same time. The day after, I talked to my roommates about what happen and to my surprise, one of them got roofied there last year. Def not going back! I still don't know if it was a bartender or a random person that night. I'm not glad about this review but I felt the duty to inform what could happen. The entire place is gorgeous. Immaculate lighting especially!! The drinks are great and they had some German beers that my friend said he had never seen at a bar in the US. The whole place was filled with beautiful people and the bartenders were fast and super friendly (and looked like models). Music sounded clear but not so loud that I couldn't talk to my friends, so that was pretty nice. Some people prefer a louder, more wild scene, but for the classier crowd this is it. Bottom line is I will go back here very soon, and it'll be a great place to show out-of-town friends what Castro's classy side looks like.
