But before it was Beaufort House it was an ice cream and scone place and before that something else. It has never been as funny as this though. There is a suit of armour in the dining room and the owner dresses in scarlet velvet evening dresses with a purple jacket and full 'to the nines' gear. The schnitzels don't fit on the plates, and the plates are huge. The food actually covers the entire plate so you can't tell there is actually a plate there until you make some headway. There is also trout and other Austrian specials like goulash soup and the like. An Austrian restaurant in Adelong, where there are only two pubs but one is still called 'The Middle'. Adelong is struggling but the Beaufort is still going strong- god knows how.

The dining room is decent sized however quite dated. The simple menu highlighted that they sourced local beef and I was sold. Little did I know that my $27 t-bone would be about a kilo! It was served simply with chips and salads. T-Bone was sweet and cooked as ordered so no complaints there. A companion had the whole local trout which looked amazing. All in all, a decent pub in Tumut.
