I'll start by saying how much I loved this place when it was in the Shore Mall, and how often I visited as a kid. It was great then, NOT NOW! I have been a customer for 15 years so it pains me a bit to write this. This place is not the same ever since they left the Shore Mall. They have a quarter (if that) of their inventory when they were in the mall. Aside from that, the staff are rude and you do not feel welcome in the store. I had to purchase some Tamiya model paint ( one of the two most popular brands for any modeler, and was carried for years by Beachcomber). Upon arriving I went up to the door and it was locked. I had to hit a button on the door to talk in, and the woman inside told me I had to "tell her what I wanted". I was confused why but alas I obliged, telling her the paint colors that I needed. She walked over to the rack shaking her head, and after I listed all I needed told me they "didn't have any of it". I then asked (through the intercom) whether she had any colors that were close, again looking at me saying "no we don't". I asked if it was out of stock, when they would get it back? She told me they no longer carry it anymore, even as the rack was right behind her. Sigh. Strangely enough looking at the rack of paint I think I could have at least found colors that were close if I was actually let in the store, and not kept locked outside. You think for a shop that probably struggles after losing its great location they would be welcoming to any customers- (let alone a younger one in the modeling hobby, which I admit are hard to come by!) Then I remembered a time about 4-5 years ago where I showed up about 2 minutes after closing time, went to the door only to have employees yell at me through the glass that they were closed. So much for "welcoming" and for trying to get business! This place is a sad excuse for a hobby shop now, and should have given up the ghost when they left the mall. I have been going to beachcomber for about 12 years now for my basic coin collecting needs. Although, I haven't bought any coins from them in a while because thing are so overpriced. I went in one day not too long ago to get a roll (40 coins) of dateless buffalo Nickels and the total came up to $43! I refused to pay that outrageous amount for dateless junk Buffalos. I ended up buying one on eBay for $11.50... It's hard not being able to enjoy this store because I've been coming here since I was a kid, but I can't just overpay for items that I could get 4x less elsewhere. They do have some things that are priced fairly, but it's becoming very limited as they Years go by. I can spot out a few things they still have for Sale that I can remember being in the store 10+ years ago... The people who work there have always been kind to me, and let me look at things I've asked to view, but I feel like this company has gone downhill since they left the mall. read more

They have someone running the place who has no idea what they carry, and will arbitrarily tell you they don't have it and/or can't get it, when in fact sometimes the items are IN THE STORE and all of the time they can get it, especially when it is from existing suppliers/distributors. We aren't talking biblical money or works by Van Gogh, we are talking modeling supplies, etc. I have tried to contact the ownership via phone and email and have gotten nowhere. At this point they are the only shop in the area that carries anything related to modeling but they force my hand to use the internet to source my stuff. The owners might have figured out a way to stay open this long but I am not sure how considering their help inside the store. read more

I remember back when this was in shore mall and they had the original Pokemon cards rotating around their display, I was about 9 at the time always rotating it until they told me stop. That the reason why I give them an extra star because now they are in a smaller location with not much to see, and my opinion not an ideal place to set up this shop so isolated. The store reminds me of the old WaWa that use to be there, since the outside has the WaWa design. read more

I get that they're smaller than they used to be, it's a tough thing to compete against the internet. So my review won't be based on that but rather on the clutter and horrible people skills of the people working here. I was visiting from out of town (used to live here) and went in for a visit. First let me tell you not to put a quarter in the little vending machines because they only give you something half of the time. Next, the store was cluttered. The glass cases with coins and cards were covered with things so you had to move things to look. They don't rotate either so you can't see everything in the cases. I was looking for a coin and it was at the bottom but I couldn't get a better look at it. So I didn't buy it. I was in there with a couple people and was in for about an hour. I didn't see anyone else spend any money while we were in there but I did (only about $8). When we went to leave there still were no customers to be seen and we hung out in the little front area because it was raining and we were trying to figure out where to go next. My son was pressing his back against the door and the woman working here came out and said "I don't know what you're doing but he can't be pushing on the door." Something about security. Well I don't know what you're doing lady, but I can tell you you're not getting a repeat visit from us. I almost wanted to return the item I did buy but I really wanted it so I didn't. I give 2 stars because they do have a decent selection, especially for the small area they're working with, but the clutter and customer service has to be fixed. read more
