Absolutely obsessed with Beach Bum in Oceanside! The best tans and staff, Robert is great!

Not sure who girl at the front desk was but i do know she was extremely rude. i have truly never encountered such a nasty worker in my life. It was my first time at this location, didn't have time to make it to where i usually tan. the way she treated a "first timer" was completely unacceptable and has turned me off from ever wanting to return here. read more

Had a great experience here with my daughter. I'm noticing however the person that caused a scene in this location while I was there has left a bad review below, and I'm here to correct quite a number of things she said because Yelp allows her to have her opinion, so here's mine. 1. She was late to her appt, and expected us to wait while she received her treatment. 7 minutes (which is what it was), or half an hour, it doesn't matter she was late. She also stated she called and said she would be late and they told her on the phone that if she was late she would have to wait until the appt after her was done. So she knew before even coming in that she was going to have to wait. 2. She said I didn't pay and I was a new customer (as if I didn't matter because she had a package) but I did come in 15 minutes early for my appt so we could ask a few questions. It actually states online to come in 15 minutes early if you are new to the process. While I was asking 2 questions, just 2, they took my daughter back immediately to her appt, that we were on time for. Like we weren't even in there for 20 seconds and they took my daughter away. My daughter was not even with me when I was speaking with the associate at the desk, or when I paid, she was immediately taken back to get her airbrush tan. So "Karen" wasn't standing there waiting for us to ask questions, my daughter was immediately brought into the back. "Karen" was waiting for my daughter to be done; because "Karen" was late for her appt. 3. This customer was nasty, not only to me a customer that she was speaking about as if I wasn't there, but also to the girl who was telling her what the policy is. She stated that I should have waited for HER to be done, even although she was late for her appt. 4. The 5 minute rule, is on the website when you book appts. It specifically states to be early for your appt. No one made that rule up Karen, it's actually on the website when you make the appt. I do wish the employee had it right in front of her to be able to say "here ya go" but because she didn't; Karen kept implying that the employee was "making up her own rules" and boy oh boy was she not nice about it. I felt so bad for the girl who was dealing with her. 5. The employee did not have a conversation with me about her. I spoke up for myself after "Karen" thought it would be cool to interject me into her complaint. After she rudely stated that I should have let her go first, and after I sat there quietly letting her go off on this girl for no reason at all, I spoke up for myself and thanked the employee for sticking to the policies of the salon because I too have a life and had another appt after the one I was on time for. We had a nail appt for 12:30 and we would have been late if I had to sit there for another 15 minutes waiting for Karen to be done. The employee simply stated, "your welcome this is why we have that policy" she never carried on about it, that was all she said in response and this review below is a complete fabrication of what actually happened. When you are late for an appt, you are being disrespectful to the employees waiting for you, and the customers that have to go after you. You are cutting into peoples lunch times, and other peoples appts. It's called being selfish and self centered. I 100% knew this woman was going to write a bad review or call corporate to complain, because that's the type of person she is. I am so happy I hit record on my phone so I could step up and show them that the employee was professional and handled it as best as she could. You were in the wrong lady. You were definitely in the wrong. I hope "Karen" is reading this. I recorded you. I could be a jerk and post it to Yelp to show everyone how badly YOU behaved. When you start a complaint with "I never write bad reviews BUT" , then you should actually have never written a bad review before. The public, can all see all the bad reviews you've left before when you didn't get your way. Kudos to BeachBum for training their employees how to handle situations and people like this. The girl did an amazing job. I wouldn't have been so nice. I'd like to say, my daughters airbrush tan came out beautiful and she's been going once a week ever since ! I guess this "new client" turned out to be just as important as "Karen" with the package. Yelp needs to do a little better with allowing people to give a 1 star review just because they feel like being petty when they don't get their way. I can say I personally have never written a Yelp review before, who has time for this, but yeah, they didn't deserve that one star she gave, and Yelp should 100% delete it. read more

Do not typically leave reviews however this is not cool!! I have bought multiple packages here in this specific location. I had a 1145am appt - I walked in at exactly 1150am. Anna at the front desk tells me it's 1151 and I'm past the 5 minute late policy and she will let me know when my air brush will be ready. Another customer walks in at 1155am for their 12pm appt (after me) and Anna takes that customer after checking them in and explaining the entire new process. She takes them in before me and explains that's how their policy works. The customer only started with the air brush tan at 1205 while I waited from 1151-1220 for this customer who walked in after me to be taken care of. I was prepaid and not a new customer by the way while the later customer came in asking a million questions as she was new and buying considering a package which I already have! Anna was extremely dismissive and was using some control power that she was enjoying rather than making me even part of the decision making. I'm shocked I was treated this way. Very unprofessional and immature catty behavior. In addition, she continued on a conversation w another customer about how they were on time and therefore get taken on time and early even though I'm sitting right there Very disappointed. Additionally I was pre paid and not a new customer. While the other customer was asking questions, new and ordering a package. Went in today to purchase a membership & I was helped by Taylor. She was incredibly sweet, super informative & knowledgable. She offered me one of the special promotions they were running for my first month & because she was so great & so helpful I will DEFINITELY be purchasing the best membership after my promotional month ends :) I am super happy with the selection of UV Beds this Salon offers, as well as their sunless options - and most importantly, with this ongoing, never ending pandemic going on it's obvious the entire staff takes every precaution to make sure the Salon is clean, spotless and sanitized which is MAJOR. :) Thank you, Taylor ! All the girls at beach bum in Oceanside are so sweet and patient and really try to find what best works for you (bed wise,lotion wise etc.) I love going to get a tan whenever with the beach pass it's always so clean and walking into such a nice welcoming environment with all the girls is so nice and relaxing. I am compelled to write.. after being stuck in quarantine for last 4 months .. we got the green light for phase 3 .. and my Beach Bum Tanning in Oceanside re-opened..I was soooo excited ... I walked thru the door a got greeted like "NORM" from Cheers... 3 smiling ladies behind their masks yell my name in unison ... made me feel like a million bucks... made my day, i knew i was home again... the owner of this biz has always since the day he opened maintained a level of smiles in his employees who always know my name n greet me happily n make me feel special.. its why ive been a regular at BBLI since it opened back over 12 years ago .. Anastasia helps me each time I'm in here, absolute doll. I'm stuck there talking to her sometimes for like 10 mins because of how bubbly n sweet she is. I was new to tanning when I had first met her at the front desk and she took the time to explain each bed to be and what my options were based on my skin type. She was very patient and sweet. STRONG BEDS, nice staff but I find it to be expensive... I do, however, love this place - although it is more costly than other salons i've been to, I guess it's worth it for the clean beds, relaxing atmosphere and highest tech beds with bulbs changed often. I love the staff, they are sweet, helpful and suggest lotions and beds that work well together and I get GREAT results ....... I get annoyed at all the signs that say "Free Tanning Sundays-Free Upgrades" because they are NOT free- you have to purchase a lotion package or any retail package of $5 more PLUS TAX.......and there is NO upgrading. I have actually switched from Diamond level to Titanium b/c the quality of the beds is clear. I just do the ten session package and generally go twice a week (one out of my package and "free" Sunday)...... read more

I had purchased a Groupon elsewhere, and they were unable to accommodate me when I needed a tan. I was looking to have a spray tan done by a person however, when I called Beach Bum I was told they were fully booked. Julia answered my call and informed me they had the new Norvella (sp??) booth available however. I was apprehensive about getting a spray tan by a machine as I had heard bad things about them a few years ago...Julia reassured me that if I came in she'd walk me through the whole process step by step and that she herself just recently got a spray tan in the machine and loved it. When I arrived she was friendly, attentive and showed me and my mom how the machine worked, explained in detail how to stand (even though the machine directs you), and she put my mind at ease. Although I don't "go tanning" often, a California trip in the middle of January motivated me to visit the Oceanside Beach Bum Tanning, lest I reflect the SoCal sun and blind strangers. The woman at the front desk was very nice and tolerated my questions. Which bed will be least likely to turn me orange? Will this bed leave red stripes down my butt? What is the smallest package I can purchase? She answered my questions with a smile and off I went to the bed. The room was very clean, towels and eye shields were readily available, and the music was not awful. I couldn't have asked for much more. read more

i'm not sure if i just caught this woman on a bad day bc i see some people praising Anna here but i came to just let people know that i did not have a similar experience with her. i liked the other girl (i didn't get her name and Anna wouldn't give it to me) a lot better, im pretty sure the lady i dealt with was the manager just bc of the diff in demeanor, &how my overall experience went. &Anna wouldn't tell me when the manager would be in next or what her name was so that i could go on a day that she was there-being she was the one who sold me the package &was a lot warmer &helpful personally. I only went in for 1 tan that day but got the package solely bc of the girl working. She was sweet, helpful &very honest &accommodating when she didn't have to be. She went over everything thoroughly &was a pleasure. as much as the other girl was great, i will be taking my business to european image they are alot cheaper and have the same exact beds &the lotions are the same, yet they're only like 5-7$ as opposed to beachbums 15-$20 price point for 1packet at beachbum. Not to mention i bought a bottle at beachbum for $200.00. That is absurd but yes my choice, i know. But when they sell for like 30$ online..&i still supported them bc I understand the workings of a business &every1 needs to make money but yo spend the money i spend there &get treated like scummy, it left a sour taste in my mouth. i was rushed off the phone as if i was inconveniencing her for inquiring. The other girl i had bought from(i think she's the manager but i could be wrong but she was very sweet &very savvy so i think she was) is a lot more professional and a lot more kind &warmth to her if i'm being honest. Not to mention a great business woman. I was ready to keep coming in twice a week &now will be finishing my last 7 sessions here taking my business elsewhere bc of how i was treated on that phone call, it was more of a "to bad sucks but that's not happening i have things to do so can't help you" type of convo by her. &forget how much (which is a lot considering the competitio) i spend -im a human being, i should've never been treated like that. i don't ask for or believe i'm entitled to anything for free but all things considered, as a "assistant manager" she could've done something to accommodate me a little they were my own tans. I'm 28 &used to work at a beachbum when i was 18 so i know how things work- at least from then. She was just rude and rushing to get off the phone w me. i wish she gave me the managers name who i dealt with so she could get the recognition she deserves- I'm not writing this review bc Anna didn't give me what i want-but bc of how she was just not a pleasant one to speak to-she was rude, matter a fact, wouldn't give me the girls name or attempt to be helpful at all &its just obvious she didn't care &coulsnt be bothered. The manager, Mr. Miller, is so unprofessional it's unbelievable that they are still in business. There have been several times I've come in and NO ONE was at the desk and I had to actually go walking through the store looking for someone to help me. He's always on his cell phone. He's so rude and condescending if you are a female... males he's magically so much more pleasant to. His reputation precedes him...When other store managers have asked where I usually tan, the response is always the same with negative things to say about him and his attitude. I have never in my entire life experienced a company so conniving and deceitful. I was NEVER informed about how my tans would expire due to the fact that I used ONE Sunday session. Not only have I experienced dirty beds, times when you weren't open when you said you were and no towels, but now this HAPPENS? What kinda of business is this. I'd like to give them zero stars . Their beds are overpriced and they are pushy . They talked me into the most expensive bed promising it would give me a good base for vacation . One of the bulbs was out and I didn't get any color . $30 and nothing ! The girl tells me it takes a day or two to show up and suggested the airbrush tanning . So I did it. It was extremely orange . She said it would look better once I rinsed off the next day . Final result , blotchy and orange . Went back for a refund and they refused ! Offered me another airbrush instead . Why would I want another one when the first one was HIDEOUS ! Stay away from this place read more

The place is huge. Disappointed in the wait time....I arrived at 3:45 pm and had to wait 20 mins for a bed (titanium level bed). There are so many rooms, I guess they just don't have a lot of beds for that level. Make an appointment before going in. Staff professional- however, some very annoying sale tactics: pressure to buy products, try to charge extra $15 for their moisturizer which they add on to the $45 spray tan without asking customer, AND when checking out they ask if you'd like change for a tip. I think it's enough to see a jar in the room with "TIP" written on it. Other than that, I can complain about the tan- been there several times and have never gotten a bad tan. read more

I am new to tanning and he gracefully explained each level to me and what would be best for my skin type, he even showed all types of lotions that he would recommend for me.
