In mid-January 2019, I used BBVA's ATM machine near San Miguel's Jardin, which was posted as OK for VISA and Mastercard. I entered my security number and withdrew 7,000 pesos (about $368 U.S). The bank fee was a very high 88 pesos (about $4.50). Here's the kicker: the machine kept my bankcard. I then talked with a teller who told me that was the bank policy. Unbelieving, I then talked with the customer service man, and finally his boss. I got the same story from each: the bank did not "recognize" my card. I protested that it must have, for it took their fee and gave me my money. Nope, my card would be destroyed. BBVA just lost any chance of me being a customer. read more
