Back when I worked in Sausalito, my office was in the same building as HOS and I used to walk by all the time to peer into their dark windows (it was hard to see anything). Apparently, after I left, they also moved. Anyone with an internet connection can listen to HOS at www.hos.com and for a fee, you can listen to it all the time. It still comes on late Sunday nights (with free access), which for me is the perfect time for space music. It's music I can fall asleep to, dream to, and truly relax to. I wouldn't want to listen to it all the time (too relaxing), but there's something very special about space music. Free of human voices, it does transport you to a different realm. You have to listen to it to understand what I mean. Set aside what you're doing and just listen. The host of the program sounds like Rod Serling, too. It's "slow music for fast times."

I grew up a fan of ambient music after discovering some used Pete Namlook CD's in my local record store. After that, my music collection was built primarily around the ambient/space music genres. It was lonely being an ambient music fan in Oklahoma, so I was shocked and thrilled when I stumbled upon my first HOS show on NPR. Since then it has become an integral part of my Sunday evening, and now with their online service I can enjoy their extensive library of shows any time of the week. Obviously it helps if you are a fan of this style of music, though I don't always find myself enjoying every show. BUT, what I really appreciate about HOS is their diversity within the genre. If I don't like a show one week, I'll tune in the next week and may find myself loving everything they're playing. Each week is different, and regardless of what they spin, the time, effort, and love they put into each show is obvious. This is quality radio. I am so grateful for HOS.

FIP keeps me wide awake and enjoying whatever I'm doing. i got addicted when living in Paris, and i've come to rely on its charmingly random, mellow music to transport me from my Berkeley desk back to the 13th arrondisement. Additionally, i am convinced that FIP has psychic powers, since i've been listening to Hendrix's "Hey Joe" on repeat all day, and when I tuned into Fip while writing this review, what was playing but Popa Chubby's version of the song! As wacky and erroneous as Harold Camping's prediction about the End Times turned out to be, still I think this Biblical "expert" is on to something. Reading the Bible, and being familiar with what Revelations does say about how things wrap up on planet earth, it is hard not to realize that many scriptural tidings seem to be coming true. Family Radio may be wrong about some specific time lines, however I don't think God appreciates all this haggling over End Time dates. Many false prophets will arise: Matthew 24:5 "For many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ, and will mislead many." Matthew 24:11 "And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many." (these would include the worship of money, fame, etc.,) Wars, natural disasters and calamities will increase: "Matthew 24:6 "And you will be hear ing of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end." Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes." Christians will suffer persecutions & tribulations for their faith: "Matthew 24:8-9 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations on account of my name." Most especially, when The Word is preached throughout the world: "Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come." Therefore, I will give some Yelp credit to Harold Camping and Family Radio, who are at least trying to warn the great unwashed heathens, disbelieving nay-sayers and besmirchers that Judgment Day may be coming. Whether it is the "quiet Judgment" that occurred on May 21, 2011 or the Big One that now Harold Camping says will happen in October, the main thing is: save some souls before they are flung into the Lake of Fire forever. Let's give Family Radio a little credit for that.
