BIBA…read more(brought in by ambulance) where I was immediately given a hospital bracelet, EKG, blood works, and fluids. That was when it ended, I was shooed off to the waiting room around 2:30 AM, and as of 5:00 AM I am STILL sitting here with a mini fluid vial in my arm with no sign of a doctor or nurse to see me. I'm angry, exhausted, hungry, and just want to go home. This place is awful and possibly the worst hospital in the world, they don't care about you, just want to get your money and leave you to rot in the waiting room.

Extremely Disappointing Experience at Salem Hospital Observation Unit…read more I recently spent two days at Salem Hospital after arriving at the Emergency Department with unbearable pain under my left rib and an inability to tolerate food or even water. First, I want to acknowledge the Emergency Department team, who were absolutely amazing. They were professional, compassionate, attentive, and thorough. They performed multiple tests, identified some inflammation on my right side, and recommended that I remain in the observation unit due to my ongoing symptoms. Unfortunately, my experience changed dramatically once I was transferred to observation. During my first day in the observation unit, no additional diagnostic tests were performed. A gastroenterologist evaluated me and explained that if I could not tolerate a meal, he would perform an endoscopy the following morning. I attempted to eat but was unable to tolerate the food. I was then told to prepare for the endoscopy the next morning. By that point, I had gone nearly two days without food or water, relying on IV fluids while continuing to experience significant pain. Bloodwork was finally performed on the morning of my second day. After another painful and sleepless night, a different physician came into my room and informed me that the endoscopy would not be performed after all. Instead, I would need to schedule it as an outpatient procedure. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated by this sudden change in the treatment plan, especially without a satisfactory explanation. What was the purpose of keeping me in the hospital for two days if the diagnostic procedure that had been discussed and planned was not going to happen? Throughout my stay, I received IV fluids, morphine, and medications to reduce stomach acid. While I appreciate the efforts to manage my pain, I came to the hospital because I was suffering and needed answers, not simply temporary pain relief. I understand that medical decisions can change, but there should be clear communication and coordination between physicians. One doctor explained that an endoscopy would be performed if I could not tolerate food, and another doctor canceled that plan the following morning. After two days in observation, I was still experiencing the same pain that brought me to the hospital, without a definitive diagnosis or a clear explanation of why the planned procedure was not performed. I am genuinely grateful to the Emergency Department staff for their excellent care. However, I am deeply disappointed with the lack of communication, consistency, and continuity of care in the observation unit. Patients who are experiencing severe pain and cannot tolerate food or water deserve clear answers, appropriate medical evaluation, and a coordinated treatment plan. I hope Salem Hospital takes this feedback seriously and reviews how patients are managed in its observation unit. I expected much better from a hospital that is part of the Mass General Brigham system.

The office staff here is terrible. Because it is a…read moresatellite of the once great MGH or Massachusetts general hospital. They feel the need to heir unprofessional locals to fill some sort of dumb neighborhood Quota. The staff is lazy and often overreaches to cut some sort of clerical corner. It is now a directive of MGH for these people to push you to answer questions that are intended for your doctor. I dont want to talk to counter help or nurses for that matter about certain things. I guess that makes their job harder , so thet pressure you and nag till you tell them attitude included. Dont go for it. Say clearly " I dont wish to talk to you or anyone beside my doctor about it." This must come from the top and their bean counters to save a penny at the expense of your privacy Another problem is even bigger. The pressure placed on these unskilled idiots from MGH itself. There are questionares they want answered that have nothing to do with your physical health. They want to know your highest level of education . Thats invalid and frankly none of their business. You should Refuse to answer! That and other questions like if you own a firearm. Again not a valid question and NOT ANY OF THEIR BUSINESS! The depression screening is another thing handed down to these idiots by MGH They just want bad answers. With tricky invasive questions that cant be answered without triggering a red flag . So they can give you a referral to three mental health offices to get more money and prescribe more drugs so they can get even more money. not because they care! MGH has turned you the patient into a cottage industry. They then force their staff to get that information from you. I understand this comes from above but these office people will not take "No" for an answer. I am usually pestered till I lose my patience with them and snap a response like. "As an adult in charge of myself, I have made the conscious decision to not answer this questionaire ." These questions and many like them are to drum up business for other parts of the empire. These people again under pressure of MGH. Will go on to tell you whats best for you and continue to ask. At that point. I say. " I dont recall asking your opinion. You see what we have here is an employee employer relationship, and guess what? Youre the employee! Now are you going to back off or am I going to have to complain to your manager?" That usually puts them in thier place. Do not answer the question are! There are questions I had a terrible PCP Dr. Meredith Davis. Thankfully she left the practice. But seemed absentminded. Wrote terrible over detailed records of nonsequential things like if I had shaved or not. Again level of education, and other nonsense. Yesterday me to take the depression test. Then leaned on me to take psychotherap drugs and see a team of mental heath providers. All the expense of my physical health. There were issues ignored or disregarded. Yet still pushed for things I didn't want. She once informed me that a testicular examination was part of the physical. And acted like it was a inconvenience. Actually asked me if I wanted her to do it as if hoping I would say yeah dont do it. Now Im not there to be touched but if its part of the yearly physical it should be done. I said "yes" and she seemed disappointed. I was beyond thrilled that she left the practice. Sleep apnea is a medical issue and I had taken an at home sleep test many years ago. It was ruled that I had moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I told Dr. Davis that I'd be interested in doing something about it. I guess its not profitable to MGH because it was never adressed. Flash forward my new provider is much better and respectful to my boundaries. Is not a slave to the MGH operative. But also has all but ignored the sleep apnea thing. I told her I would do a home test. She scheduled an appointment with a neurologist that was 8 moths away and was going to cost me $650.00 after insurance. I promtly canceled the appointment and told them why. Without as much as a followup inquiry The issue was ignored till my next physical I told her about costs and asked her why cant you my pcp just order the sleep test cut out the middle man and save me a ton of money in the process. She said , yes we can do that. Then didn't. She did however order a ton of blood panels that even she said were not fully nessary . I asked if we could maybe skip the ones she thought were unnecessary. She said sure. I told her that last years physical cost me $850.00 after insurance. She said okay we really don't need this one , that one or that one. She eliminated them but guess what. The idiotic staff did them anyway and stuck me with another giant bill. And guess what wasn't ordered. The one thing I asked about. Sleep apnea test. MGH has clearly lost their way and cares about profits ahead of patients. Add to that an inept unprofessional lazy staff and things have gone off the rails.

She makes me feel welcome and understands me when Im in pain or might be needing more help or time and that's exactly what she provides. The center is really busy and sometimes that could be overwhelming. The parking situation is also not any better. You have to be lucky to find a spot. Finding a good doctor is hard and that alone make the couple of short comings tolerable.

I called them and asked if they were closed and if we needed to make an appointment because of COVID. The guy gave me attitude and seemed sluggish. He answered with "I don't know. You'll have to search that up." You've got to be kidding me... you work there and you don't know your job hours? I drove there 35 minutes and to only see a security there saying that they were closed for COVID. I basically just wasted 35 minutes and drove all the way to Chelsea for NO REASON. Another problem with this center is that there's ALWAYS PROBLEMS with refilling prescriptions and hospital visits. It's like they don't communicate with other hospitals. DO NOT waste your time here.. go somewhere nicer or even change your insurance.
