"You know, back in my days, they used Bayer aspirin for contraception. The gals put it between their knees, and it wasn't that costly." - Foster Friess
This is the corporate headquarters of the worldwide pharmaceutical and life sciences company. Bayer is one of the largest such companies and they have business operations in both human and veterinary pharmaceuticals; consumer healthcare products; agricultural chemicals, seeds and biotechnology products.
If you've taken an aspirin (as I have) then you're a Bayer customer. Or perhaps prontosil, the first widely used antibiotic (and subject of the 1939 Nobel Prize in Medicine) or maybe the more advanced antibiotic ciprofloxacin which I have also taken. Maybe you're popped an Aleve to relieve pain or given your dog a K9 Advantix? Yep, we're all Bayer customers.
Bayer has been on a mergers and acquisitions binge, picking up Schering, Merck and Monsanto. The Monsanto acquisition was a record for a German company, landing at some $66 billion.
And after this week's hassles and headaches, I'll be taking another one of those Bayer aspirin. Good stuff.
