The decor would be "sweet" for a basement, but not too much for a bar trying to pose for a cocktail bar. I guess the fake tree is ok, but overall blah. And give me a break with the drink selection.... If I wanted grenadine or imitation rose's lime mixed with some vodka and pineapple juice, I'd go to a college party and not spend €8 per drink. The "cocktail list" is totally a joke - amateur hour is a compliment for this hot mess. However, some drinks come with gummy creatures, which makes up for maybe €1 of my complaining.

Code Bar put us in for three drinks each. Astonishingly, the bar is running with no menu. I'm sure they could make the classics, but we just told them what we wanted - something served up, a short or a long drink, or any combination of fruity, dry, smooth, acidic, or dairy-forward. No matter what mixture of flavor notes and finishes we threw, they delivered. And they adjusted drinks to our request as we sipped. The mixologists' English is great, too, so don't worry about not being understood.

The ambience is definitely ornate and beautiful. Parking was across the street and definitely for small vehicles which are endemic to Europe. The bar was phenomenal and exquisite. Drinks were very good as well. Bathrooms were discreetly hidden behind doors in the casino area and of course absolutely clean. The entire casino was top notch. The dealers could have been more gambler friendly as we're accustomed to in California. Guess that's a german thing. The blackjack was slightly different and obviously in favor of the house. Definitely an OK experience. Disappointed Texas Holdem and Craps weren't offered. For me, not a fan.

I stopped in recently with a couple of locals while there visiting their hometown. It was late by American standards but an early night for French (9 PM), and we were one of only two parties there when we arrived. It didn't take long though before the place filled up. Service was attentive, and we ordered a round of drinks before reaching for the trivial pursuit. If you have a mastery of the French language, you can likely still do well at the game. The questions are broad and diverse enough that even this American did pretty well when pitted against two hommes français. The place was buzzing by the time we left around midnight. This is the perfect watering hole in Haguenau and worth a stop while you're in the area!
