Service was quick and hearty, and the schnitzel was simply delicious. Combine that with some local Rostocker beer, and you have yourself a great dinner. We left the place full and happy, ready to uncover what more surprises this town had to offer.

I hope to try more food from this city along the Baltic Sea but for now it is a 4-star meal to me!…read more It was tougher to find English reviews and recommendations for Rostock than Berlin or Hamburg but I saw multiple recommendations online for Zur Kogge. I was worried that the tourist attraction would lack gastronomically. Thankfully, I was wrong. I arrived to find a large tour group dining and only one free table left. Throughout my meal, I witnessed many diners turned away because they were booked up (this was on a Monday night), so make sure to come early or make a reservation. If you want the best view of the nautical decor, reserve a table on the upper level. My drink and food orders were taken promptly even though they were BUSY. I ordered the Rostocker Export draught to start. It was a great pour and went perfectly with my food. I ordered the pumpkin ginger soup and I sat there for 10-15 minutes with my taste buds blown. It was served hot, with dark bread croutons and pumpkin oil. It was smooth but thick and warmed my entire body. I ordered the sauteed herring with potatoes and green beans (Frisch gebratene Ostseeheringe mit deftigen grünen Speckbohnen und Bratkartoffeln) as my entree. I hadn't had a fish with bone-in in a long time, so eating it was a bit of a challenge for me. The flavors were great but the dish overall was a tad heavy. Both the potatoes and green beans are sauteed in bacon grease. I left feeling content and fit in a nice 15-minute walk before getting on the bus back to Berlin. I will definitely bring friends along next time.
Love this place and that was why for my graduation dinner I took my parents (who came all the way…read morefrom Canada) to eat here! Wow were we happy with amount that was served!!! Don't let the name stop you from coming in -- here not only is fish served but also steak, vegetarian and basically typical North (Rostock) fisherman food. I ordered the Schollen -- it came with a nice fish plate and a generous amount of salad, sauce and either rice or french fries or croquettes (fried potatoes thingy) Try and get a table upstairs- cause there are plenty of old antiques hanging from the wall and nice huge blowfish also. The staff are friendly and perhaps you can also get the Platt-Deutsch menu and learn some words also! All in all, a nice restaurant, centrally located -- across from the harbour so you can also go for a walk after or before or what the heck go into the city for some shopping!

Just... Wow! Went to Rostock for a weekend getaway with someone I hold dear. Went here for lunch on…read moreSaturday and had what may just be the best pork chop I've had in my life. But I get ahead of myself... Altstaedter Stuben is, as the name implies, located in Rostocks Altstadt (old town district), and serves German classics. The decor in the front room was neat but informal, otherwise nothing to write home about. The service was good, and the waiter kindly let us practise our German language skills (or lack thereof) even though he seemed fluent in English. My partner and I both opted for the "Stielkotelett vom Duroc," or pork chop, which came with potatoes, turnips, mixed vegetables and a mustard sauce that had a little bite but not too much so it didn't steal your attention. The chop was topped with a twig of thyme, and finally the whole thing had been sprinkled with dried flower petals, which both looked good and added a whiff of much needed spring to a grey March day. I'd like to visit Rostock again at a warmer time of year. If and when that happens I'll be sure to come back here.

We found this place on Yelp, and thanks to all the fantastic reviews we had some truly amazing food. I think I loved it all. Schnitzel, Sausages, local beer, and apple strudel for dessert. Sucks, that we couldn't have more time to try some other places, so this place has set the standard thus far. I already posted some photos while I was there. Thank god for yelp, cause if it wasn't for yelp, I probably would of not walked into Burwitz Legendar. Their menu is all in German but you can ask them for the English menu. We ordered the famous Schweineschnitzel, German Sausage with Curry Sauce and a dish of filet fish. Of course being in Germany, I also ordered a glass of their local Lubzer beer. Food was amazing here, the Schweineschnitzel (deep fried pork cutlet) was amazing! Fried to perfection and the pork had great texture and flavor, definitely my favorite dish out of the three. The German Sausage was also great, the curry sauce was spicy but not to the point where it covers all taste buds! Filet on the other hand was so-so, fried nicely too though, but fish was a little dry. Overall, amazing experience at this restaurant with great food, beer and service all in a very resonable price!! If i ever go back to this area, I will visit again for sure.

My fish-dish as my main course was very nicely prepared, fried just right and not dry at all. The sides (Pasta) were without fault, but could have been more interesting. The Fish really was the star on my plate, the rest quite forgettable. Dessert was great. I was especially happy with the Caramel Beurre salé Ice cream - you don't often find that outside of france and then rarely this competently done. Chapeau! Prices are absolutely justified and not that high to start with. They use quality produce and prepare it very well. Service was very friendly but not without fault. The food arrived before we had finished the Apéritif and the wine we ordered also hadn't arrived yet. But those are minor inconveniences. Reservations a couple of days in advance are recommended.
