This is a very traditional, family-run
village restaurant…read moreand bar in the centre of the village of Bierbaum, next to the church.
The restaurant has a slightly-old fashioned feel, with lots of wood panelling and hunting trophies on the wall
(deer antlers, stuffed birds, etc). There are two rooms the main bar area and
a smaller room which is non-smoking. There is a large roofed beer-garden at the front, used in the summer. It's popular with locals and groups, and there is a function room to hire for weddings etc.
As the name suggests, this is a hunting area and game features extensively on
the menu, including wild boar and venison, alongside locally sourced trout and other fresh-water fish, beef, pork and chicken. There is a small range of vegetarian options (which includes local wild mushrooms in season).
The
cooking is traditional Austrian fare, and everything is home-made on the
premises. Portions are generous without being excessive. Expect a meal of
two courses, with wine or beer and coffee, to be around EUR25-EUR30 a head.
Recommended, if you are in the area.
