I'm sorry I'm limited to five stars, because they deserve more. It's a unique and fun set-up - you can sit at the spacious counter for full service, or order from the bar and have it brought to your table. The staff is SUPER attentive, and food, omigod, the food is great. We tried the brisket, wings, Flintstone-style short rib, beans, and kale salad (yeah, my wife is one of them), and everything was great. Might be the best restaurant on the peninsula! The batesys beach box is insane value and comes with a mix of meats and 3 sides (enough to feed 2-3). The crispy catfish sandwhich was also fantastic. Didnt get any drinks, but the drink menu looked extensive and interesting. Great service and cozy interior (they also have a nice outdoor seating area). Def coming back! read more

I've had them like 3 times and every single time me and my boyfriend are incredibly happy with our meal. I normally don't yelp unless I need to help out my friends but I had to write a review because they deserve it. Not only do they deliver drinks (I ordered sangria and it's BOMB and sneaks up on you which is a plus!) but the food is absolutely amazing. Get the beach box, the price is worth every penny which even so is not expensive at all for what you're getting. You get like 4 meats and 3 sides. All the meats are amazing but yo......... the brisket..... it's phenomenal. We should have ordered more on the side cause it's really really good. Anyways can't thank y'all enough for such a wonderful dinner. It's been a long time since a dinner hit the spot like that..And I think I'm even nicer because of that bomb ass sangria!!!!! I'm in love with this place. Went for the first time. I had the St Louis Ribs with cornbread and my boyfriend had the deviled eggs with brisket and pickles. We each tried each other's meals and I haven't got one bad thing to say about any of it. You know ribs are gonna be good when they fall off the bones. The cornbread is the perfect moist consistency and they touch it off by putting it on the flattop for just a few minutes to give it a little outside crisp. OMG I didn't want it to end! Batsey's menus that come on google and few other sites are not always up to date and don't usually include fish/seafood items that appear on Batsey's website, which for the longest time prevented me from trying them out as, based on third-party websites, I assume they have nothing for me. Go directly to their website for the most updated menu!!! I ordered a Catfish Sandwich battered in beer with some condiments on the side and found it to be extremely satisfying with crispy texture on the outside and juicy and flaky inside. I also had French fries, they were not to my taste as I prefer them larger and thicker, but was told by few others in my party that there was nothing wrong with them and were well seasoned. My partner hesitantly ordered a pork pull sandwich and then I found him licking his fingers at the end and he got the same thing the very next day. The staff is great and willing to accommodate your preferences, even with your alcoholic beverages, without being annoyed with them. This place is epic. I never went there despite living down the street, but last weekend i went Friday, Saturday and Sunday and OBVIOUSLY the food is amazing. The beach box is the way to go to taste everything. The owner is super kind and remembered us. It's nice when people come into the neighborhood and are kind to the constituents that lived here for 30+ years. Highly recommend. There is no comparison between this bbq and RBQ. The quality here is excellent and sorry to disagree, but portion size is good for the price. I am a big eater for my small size and was totally satisfied with my pulled pork sandwich. Drinks are delicious as well. My husband brought home a Batesy's beach box and it was outstanding! The box has some of everything: ribs, brisket, sausage, chicken, pork. It comes with 3 sides - we had the mac n cheese, potato salad and greens. Every item was exceptional, the meat was tender and seasoned/sauced to perfection. The mac n cheese was divine. Does! Not! Disappoint! Date night drinks turned into one of the best bbq meals I've eaten! I started with the southerner cocktail, the fresh mint perfectly balanced the drink and hit the spot. I'm not a beer person, but my husband is and the beer menu was extensive and satisfied his love for unique and hard-to-find beers in the area. My husband got the honey baked beans and brisket... the brisket was super tender (I know this because it was so good I ended up "sharing" half of his... whoops!). I got the seared sausage sandwich, the sausage was crisp and juicy and the beer mustard was the perfect topping... bonus, I found out Batesy's gets the sausage from a local deli, loved hearing they support local businesses. Great new spot! Food was excellent and the craft beer selection was great. We had the honey bourbon wings - they were crispy and flavorful. I ordered the beef brisket, it had great flavor and fell apart with a fork - no knife needed. Paired it all with two great beers from Other Half and Finback. I wanted to keep eating it was so delicious, but I couldn't possible fit anymore in my stomach. This place was definitely worth the trip from Long Beach, I will definitely be back. read more

First time heading to this spot...last time I'm going there. For starters, coming in, we did not know whether we had to sit ourselves or wait to be seated, so we were just standing there for a few minutes. We found out we had to place our order ourselves and if you are lucky to find a spot to sit (limited seating), then you are in good shape...somewhat. Not a fan of restaurants that requests a tip when you have to place the order (#UmmmDuhh). We ordered the Devil Eggs, 1/2 pound Angus (more like a fifth of a pound) and the Short Rib...oh and two waters (which was self service out of a cooler?!) For the price you pay (we paid 48$), the amount of meat was NONEXISTENT! Seriously, no bang for your buck whatsoever. Their best sauce is the hot sauce and that is not saying much since they literally just poured it from a bottle...not even their own. Their own sauces provided no value whatsoever. And why would you put brittle, paper beneath the meat...you are, no-doubt, eating straight paper as you cut into the meat. My order was just bone with "little" meat. So many things to say about the restaurant and I truly wanted to love it, but it's not worth the time or money spent. First, the restaurant seems more like a fast food place than a dine in restaurant. I went with a party of 6, they have you order your drinks at the bar, and then you have you get up out your seat and pre-pay for your food like a fast food joint. Needless to say I had to take out a pen and paper and write down my party's order and then take it up to order and then pay. On a busy night could be rather annoying(That alone left a bad taste in my mouth). Ok. So I thought, maybe the food is good. I ordered a burger and so did my son, I've had a better burger at Friday's so imagine. My husband had the ribs, nothing to rave about, the BBQ chicken had no seasoning so I was told from a person who doesn't use salt at all to cook. Oh and the menu is a la carte`, so if you order a burger you will have to pay for fries separately. Some places can do that because the food is actually worth the price, but they are just another business trying to take advantage of the NEW MONEY coming to the Rockaway's. Low-key spot with a comfy ambiance and pretty good food. Not exactly where I would want to go for a first date, but definitely a cool date night spot to have some pretty good comfort food and really good/strong drinks. I had the jolly rancher cocktail which was a little too sweet for my liking but BOY did it pack a punch. After two, I had to bow out. For food, I ordered the brisket (only lean meat is my preference), mac and cheese and deviled eggs. The brisket was tender and well seasoned but I do wish the outsides were a bit more crisp; the mac and cheese was actually tasty but it could have used a bit more seasoning; and the deviled eggs were a good rendition of your standard deviled egg. Overall I enjoyed my meal. The only improvements I would make is regarding overall presentation: the food was lukewarm! When ordering a meal, I expect it hot, not barely warm. All in all, I would probably return to try some other dishes but the managers should really look into the food temperature. read more

I'm giving three stars because this is a barbecue joint and the RIBS are so underwhelming that I'm still sad about it and I had them two weeks ago. This restaurant has good service and even the packaging for the to go food is done well and neatly. The corn bread was delicious, wings fresh and crunchy, sautéed greens yummy, chicken sandwich with fries tasty and when I was ready to dig in to my full slab of ribs and my friend got a half slab we both looked at each other and said "yuck." I have had barbecue from all over the country and this is not good. My ribs were not tasty at all. I They were dry and the flavor was just not good. I'm so disappointed and we spent over 100 bucks on takeout. We literally threw the ribs in the garbage. I hope I got a bad batch but I'm scared to order them again. I would go back for the other things I mentioned but bad ribs at a barbecue joint... Shaking my head. If you're craving ribs I would say to rethink going to Batesy's. read more

I came with my family, which included an 18 month old. They had no booster seats. But that was fine because it does advertise as a bar so I was not bothered by that. I don't like that the waitress doesn't take your order. It's very confusing. You have to go to the bar and order your drinks (including soda) and pay at the bar, then you have to go to the counter and order your food and pay there. They give you a number to put on your table and the waitresss will bring your food to you. We had a party of 6, so it was a lot to remember what everyone wanted when you're going up to place your order. It is not a family friendly restaurant. The brisket was not well seasoned(actually had no seasoning). The bbq chicken was not seasoned well. The bbq sauces on the table(only 2 choices) were not that great as far as taste is concerned. My son said he enjoyed the ribs and the cold slaw was pretty good. The Mac n cheese was okay. The staff was very friendly and the drinks were different, but good. I would not recommend this restaurant for a large party(unless everyone is paying for their own individual bill). But I would go there for after work drinks and appetizers. read more
