Great breakfast and bakery!! Nice vibe and staff is friendly with good service. Place is always busy and family friendly. Would definitely come again when I visit Cologne.

"No bad, no good, no nothing ..." ... would describe this cafe most accurate. It's a typical tourist place where elderly ladies from outside CGN would go for a coffee, some drinks or dinner after an extensive shopping tour through the city. The Coffee is of medium quality, not much better than the one you can get at any bakery in the morning. I didn't enjoy the marble-cherry cake much, since I t tasted old with almost no flavor. But, it was quite late in the day as well when I tried it.

Very tasty quiches and omelettes. They bring in a basket of fresh bread for every table. Service is nice and there is a wonderful beer garden in the back. Cappuccino and fresh squeezed orange juice are what have tried there for drinks and both great choices.

Bastian's salad - too sweet and too much dressing :(

Stick to the cakes. Don't eat the food. Good atmosphere, fresh bread, but terrible salad. I ordered the Bastian's banana-curry salad, and it was waaaay too sweet and covered with a sugary dressing. The salad was completely wilted and swimming in dressing. In Germany salads tend to be overdressed in general, but this was extreme. Do not order this. My friends however, were more or less satisfied with their meals though. Haven't tried their cakes yet, but they look tasty were nearly sold out by the time we left after lunch. For a better value and consistently good food, walk up the street to Sweet Sushi instead of eating here.

I love this place so much. I ate here for breakfast two days in a row for the two days I was in Köln. This is where you go for traditional german breakfast. Everything from the coffee to the dessert is the best. The service is friendly and our waiter was so kind he remembered us from the day before and brought us a complimentary pastry hot from the oven! Locals eat here don't go anywhere else for breakfast!

For desert, my spouse and I went for what was told to us as traditional from Cologne: Bienenstich.

While walking around Cologne, I kept seeing locals with the most delicious looking Berliner donut…read morepastries. I saw they were getting them at Merzenich, a popular bakery chain in Germany. I decided to get one because the pastries looked so good and sweet. This location has a sit down area inside as well as an exterior takeaway counter. It took a little while to jostle the crowds to order (and busy locals had no problem shoving in front of us tourists), but eventually we were able to place our order. The staff here isn't the friendliest around, and the woman behind the counter's tone quickly changed when she learned that we weren't from Germany. No matter, I really wanted that pastry! Behind the counter you could see lots of tasty looking pastries, breads, pretzels, rolls, cakes, pies, and sandwiches. You could easily make a quick, filling, and affordable meal here. Prices were reasonable (my donut was less than a dollar). Inside, you can also get coffee and espresso-based beverages. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop here again, but it was a great detour for a bit of afternoon pick-me-up energy.

Came here to grab some pastries on a weekday afternoon - got a cheese stick and a pecan sticky bun…read more The former was too salty for me but tasty, lots of cheese. The latter wasn't overly sweet which I appreciated, and the bread was really soft, quite enjoyed it. Lots of pecan as well. €5.60 for both which is a bit pricey but definitely tasty!
