Secret Garden Florist is a pretty lovely little shop, and the previous reviews have inspired me to…read morelove it even more! Although not a standard combination I actually think that selling flowers, hats and fascinators in the same shop somehow makes sense. Maybe because the fascinators are so flowery, or maybe it just feels right to see so many pretty things in one place! This shop has recently opened and has yet to put up a sign, but the interior is very inviting, with a minimalist whitewashed look, a large display of hats and fascinators and some beautifully presented flowers. The hats and fascinators are large and flamboyant and adorned with feathers flowers and bows. Perfect for the races (if you're into that sort of thing) or a wedding. The milliner who creates these wonders does a bespoke hat-making service and specialises in creating pieces for weddings. Bouquets are made to order and are sure to impress!

Being fortunate enough to work practically in the forest (my work base is right out in the countryside) I have to catch the bus through Oakwood on a Mon-Weds. As such I'm always staring out of the bus window, eyes glazed over in the morning light, trying not to fall asleep. One fine morning I realised that this place was re-opening and so decided to nip in on my way home! What a delight. It's a bit of a random mix, flowers and fascinators, but then if you are a creative person you'll know what it's like to have more than one outlet for your imagination. The shop may only be in its infancy, but that doesn't mean there are few items to browse - oh no. With a back wall dedicated to a range of exquisite fascinators one could simply stand for an age taking in all of the detail. There are large ornate pieces, with huge illustrious peacock feathers and bright colours, to a more modest set of hair comb based feathered creations. Literally something for everyone and with a price range of £30 - £100+ this could not be more true! There are also a selction of delightful mini felt top hats decorated gloriously with a range of feathers, and my favourite piece of all, an utterly beautiful fascinator hat. That last piece is not for sale, as it was a competition piece, but you really must go in to see it. It's a sort of 20s style hat, exquisitely crafted, and won its crafter a place as one of 12 finalists *in the world* for one of the largest hat making competitions held worldwide. Wow! The crafter, also owner of the shop, is a truly lovely lady as well and more than happy to chat about her creations. If her fascinator artistry is anything to go by her floristry will certainly be exquisite too. She has a workshop inside the building as well, crafting on site, and can make up specialist hats and bespoke flowers to any specification. If you are thinking of saying it with flowers, or perhaps fancy an outing to the races, you now know your first port of call! I highly recommend a visit to this wonderful shop. I know I'm looking forward to watching it flourish!

An example is just today, I ordered the Grand Prix red roses and asked for some lillies to be tied into the bouquet. They were a gift for my mum who is recently widowed and has just become poorly so I decided to treat her. I placed my order at 09:00am and the flowers arrived just an hour later! My mum is highly delighted with these flowers and I am so impressed with the superb service and the quality of the flowers is always very high and they last a long time. I am very pleased, as usual, with Alan Brown and I will be using them again! Thank you to all of the staff. Miss C Austin x

That kind of awareness is a brilliant quality that makes the shop a very friendly place to be!

It's a quality name and we deserve quality in Leeds, why like all the southerners have the fun. What you'll get is top quality merchandise but with a modern twist. For me, you really can't go wrong with the charm bracelets. In fact if Mr future Melissa is reading this, take plenty of notes please. Contemporary designs are all part of the service. I love this store because it's almost like going into a fun museum with everything showcased beautifully. Have a look around the glass casings and when you really fall in love get the staff to open up the future of your heart. Pretty, sparkly things yippee. Plenty of choice and they'll order you in anything they don't have in branch. Sometimes you really need to see things up close and personal, which is why it's definitely worth heading here before making some substantial purchases. Not overly cheap but not stupidly out of range too. Well it can be, it just depends how much wonga you have to play with. Alas I'll never have enough for one of my favourite stores in the Victoria Quarter.

Now I understand they are assuming that they are more likely to get a sale with people smartly dressed however this is plain wrong if someone else entered the store first. I eventually left the store in disgust and bought the items I wanted online rather than the store

To some extent you can rely on local trade but to drum up customers, from further afield, I imagine is a pretty tricky thing. I thing that standing out from the crowd would be the first trick, and Tammy's is one that does this for sure. Not only do they sell all the usual suspects, beautiful pre-arranged bouquets and custom made, but they also sell some gorgeous potted plants. Not so unusual, I hear you say? Well, perhaps not but I haven't told you about the display yet! These aren't just your standard hyacinths stuffed into a plastic brown pot, oh no! You can get little wooden wheelbarrow arrangements, bright pink bowls and (my favourite) tea cup and saucer arrangements! They also had some really cool felt flower pot arrangements too. I was really impressed at how imaginative their window display was and can imagine that a gift of a potted wheelbarrow would be so much nicer than the plain alternative. For some thoughtful gifts Tammy's is worth travelling just a little bit further than the city centre!

You can buy one of the 'off the peg' colourful, seasonal bouquets that are on display, or get the helpful, smiley assistants to make one up to your own specifications. They also stock a variety of potted plants and shrubs that you can take home and plant, although it would be a lot cheaper to make a trip to your local garden centre. For flowers though, prices are about average - more than a garage forecourt, less than a designer florist - and not much to pay for the smile they'll bring to their recipient's face.
