When you walk around old town and everything is really quaint, how do you decided which adorable little place you should spend your money at? Faced with just this dilemma, I'm pretty sure we made the right decision by going in here. There was a garden out front and a live band. The waitstaff is bilingual (probably more). They did upsell us to a wine that wasn't all that great, but I will forgive them since he also recommended I get the picanha when I was going to get the crab soup and risotto instead. He told me the latter two dishes were fine, but the picanha was where it was at. And he didn't lie. The meat was cooked to slightly less than medium. I asked for medium rare and I expected it a little bloodier, but what can you do. It was still deliciously tender meat with a side of potatoes that tasted sweet (as opposed to sweet potatoes which are an entirely different beast). Check out the picture I uploaded if you need a visual. We also had a ceviche to start, which was great.
Halfway through our meal, it started downpouring torrentially. We were lucky enough to be seated a table with a gigantic umbrella, so we were not affected. Some of the other customers, though had to be moved indoors and the waitstaff was very quick in their response.
I'll probably never be in Paraty again, but if I were, I'd want to revisit. read more
