Every time we come here, there's some kind of an issue. Either the order gets messed up, or the food takes two+ hours to get to the table, or the service is terrible. Last visit, our food was given to a big table next to ours despite of them protesting it wasn't their order. They comped our meal, but the frustration of it is just too much. We were greeted by the hostess and she schooled us on how ordering works. They have QR codes on the tables. You scan, view menu and pace your order from your phone. You also close out your tab within this same website. I ordered the small guac, street corn and 3 tacos. Please note that the tacos are small. You get two solid bites lot of each one. Glad to see improvements from last visit. The ginger mint tea was strong and not weak, the fish tacos were good also. The duck tacos however were a mushy mess!!! More like eating sautéed onions and ground meat. Pretty bad!! Have had them many times in the past and they always had good flavor and larger grilled pieces of duck. Scan the QR code, Pick your drinks yourself, pick your food yourself and just totally enjoy your vibe. The manager Mike was very attentive, very knowledgeable on the food and choices, and especially knowledgeable on the drink options. The vibe was cool, casual environment with speakeasy type of people. Good food, fast service, really frustrating and impersonal ordering system. (See my last reviews of other bartaco branches for food reviews. Tonight, the pork belly taco, guacamole, and plantains were all delicious.) The digital ordering was clunky and confusing and, therefore, frustrating. * My friend couldn't get her phone to work with the qr code. We needed help. The only way anyone at the table knew how to get help was because I had dined at bartaco years before and knew to put up the dragonfly card to signal your waiter. The waiter who came by said she didn't know how someone could put in an order without using their phone. She had to summon someone else who gave my friend a paper menu. * Do you know how someone can request a sugar rim via the online ordering system? It took me a while to figure it out. First, you have to add a standard margarita to your order. Then, you have to view your order. *Only then* are you able to click into the menu item page to read more about it and select "sugar rim" as an option. * Often, as a way to foster conversation and attention, I leave my phone at home when I go out for socializing. Bartaco requiring a phone / having extra barriers in place for ordering without a phone is, frankly, annoying, but also inaccessible and disheartening. As an aside, it left my experience with the many waiters bringing our food feeling rushed and completely impersonal. Besides the many waiters hustling food to our table, only one other checked in on us one time. (I arrived to my party later than the others and had never seen this waiter before.) Instead of feeling cared for, I felt awkward and uncertain. How was I supposed to answer "how is everything?" to someone who hadn't touched base with us before. And to think of new people visiting bartaco for the first time... If this had been my first time, the experience with the ordering system and the staff would've been a total turn off. The food is good, but personally, it's not worth the poor taste in my mouth left from the strange brand of service, and it's not somewhere I would take friends or family. I know there are plenty of folks who prefer to not interact with staff on a friendly level. People who don't care to have recommendations, talk about allergies, or have a dedicated server to ask questions with. I am not that person. Maybe if I were a regular and had the menu down pat, things would be different, but even with visiting many times before 2020, I was still curious about the ingredients on the Verde chicken, if I could get a sugar rim on my margarita, whether the plantains were sweet or savory. After a few minutes of struggling with the ordering app, I figured that one out, but we never got answers to the other questions. Bartaco used to have a paper+pencil menu ordering system. Maybe they're trying something new and will shift things again soon. If that's the case, I'd be happy to visit again. I've always loved their fun flavors and drinks, plus the ambience is hip and chill and fun, but the headache of the service+ordering is one I'll be actively avoiding until something changes. read more

The food was really good here! In this order I rate my tacos flavor- bursting wise mushroom (10/10), cauliflower (8/10), Baja fish (7/10). Next time I will get all mushroom tacos because they tasted that good! The cauliflower was very good, it's not fried cauliflower so the texture is pretty soft, and the Baja fish was okay for a fish taco. The inside was spacious and cozy feeling. The hostess was very nice but the service wasn't the best. The server stopped by once to tell us how to order, but didn't come back for us to ask any questions about the menu or drinks. I've only dined in this location once but have been to their other locations. We can on a Friday or Saturday night with our two young kids and waited for about 15 mins. Once seated, our waiter was pleasant. He got our orders correct and checked in throughout the night. It did take a long time to get our food but he let us know the kitchen was backed up. Our food was good, just like I've had at their other locations. This is closest to me so I'll be back. I just keep forgetting that it's tucked back there. read more

You'll need 3 or 4 to feel satisfied especially if you go on an empty stomach, small but full of flavor. The mushroom taco is my favorite. I'm on a fit kick right now so I ordered a mocktail called a noquito. It was a great "sike" to my brain. Mexican Street Corn was yummy as well as the churros. Food: Paloma- very light tasting; could of used a bit more alcohol for the price. 3/5 Guac- love the warm chips ( whole chip lol) needs some more salt, in my opinion Ceviche- made with white fish, a tad but fishy for my taste but great pungent lime flavor! Fresh peppers, tomatoes, onion and avocado Pork belly taco- nice sweet flavor, with a light smoke taste. The pungent pickled red onions were the perfect cut with the juicy fatty pork belly ** drooling! WOULD GO BACK JUST FOR THIS Mushroom taco- nice hearty mushroom piece with some sort of spicy green salsa with cheese chunks- yum Fried oyster taco- yummy tartar sauce. Oysters could be a bit larger. I've been to bartaco's in Atlanta but this location might be one of the worst managed ones I've ever been too. We went last night with coworkers. Our drinks took 15-20 minutes to arrive that's when we could flag down our server. Most of the staff including the manager walked past us when we were all four saying excuse me, they would walk by tables with their heads down: it was cold inside the restaurant with all the doors open. Our server actually said, yeah it's really cold but I doubt they'll close the doors. Our food was incorrect and the only person trying to correct our food was the food runner, not the server or the manager. The food was fair but the service is horrendous. I called the manager Kyle on Monday. He listened and stated he has never heard of such complaints. I explained that it was so Suttle a lay-person it would not have been noticed unless you have someone to compare it with. This is more of a 3.5 for me. The food was good, and the wait staff was so nice. However, as others have mentioned, the portions are small. Here we go: Tacos: I got 3 tacos, and that would not have been enough if I only ordered tacos. This is fine, but I was surprised bc I wouldn't consider myself a hearty eater. I got: pork belly, falafel and chicken. I think the pork belly was the best, but the falafel seems like a sleeper hit. All three had some heat, which I loved but definitely could imagine it being a turn off. Appetizers/sides: The large guacamole was very small, in my opinion. It had good flavor, but just a small portion for two people. Spicy cucumbers. I had made these before and had simply forgotten about them! Very good and tasted good with the heaviness of the tacos. Mexican street corn off the cob. My friend wanted this, so we got it. Interesting, the portion of this felt quite large! I thought it was too heavy, but my friends loved it. Atmosphere: This is a beautiful restaurant. Would be perfect for a girls night out, date night or just looking for something hip without being stuffy. Service is always fantastic, bartenders, food runners and other servers are ALWAAAAAAYS so helpful, extremely nice & helpful in every way possible! No complaints from me or my guests (usually my sister and/or my cousin) Food is always AMAZING, full of flavor & fresh! Our favorites are the pork belly, chorizo, sesame ribeye, and chorizo! & of course the guac + roja + verde!! This is my first time here and the place is very warm and welcoming. You have to order via your phone which was tricky at the beginning but it was easy to additional food. We both ordered 3 different tacos each and split chips/salsa and street corn. There were 2 small corn on the cob so it was easy to split. The salsa was delicious and great flavor. We called ahead today for a party of 11. From the first phone call to the end of our visit, everything was spot on. All of the staff were friendly and went above and beyond. Normally, bartaco offers ordering through your phone. But since we had a number of kids and tweens with us, they brought out paper menus and spent the time to talk with the first timers on recommendations. The food was also very good. Service was quick with food and cocktails. We never felt rushed. We were allowed the time to visit and enjoy our meal. I've been to bartacos across the country and this location is now my favorite so far with Nashville dropping to second. The flavors are spot on, and they hit that perfect balance of savory and satisfying. I always choose to sit at the bar because the bartenders are great, and the vibe is just right for a casual night out. Service? There is an element of service that is out of sync here. Both in the front of the house and the back of the house. The idea of non-contact ordering is fine but you still have to deliver service. The host said : "I'll bring you water then rolled his eyes when someone else delivered it" = what?. A little later, another person said:" do you want more crackers?" Then the crackers didn't come until we asked for them from a different person. A portion of our order came and then 10 minutes later we had to ask someone else "where is the rest of our food?". I watched that person talk to the delivery person and then our order was delivered. Note: it wasn't a busy time in the restaurant. The delivery person a short time later tried to deliver an order to our table that was not ours. My friend raved about the Mid-Town bartaco location. If I was giving stars on atmosphere and service alone, I would give them 5 stars. But, the food was 50/50 for me. The cucumber salad, plantains and guacamole were amazing and worth returning for. The tacos were just OK. I had them on the bibb lettuce instead of tortillas and the lettuce was wilted. The mushroom taco was my favorite and the cauliflower taco was my least favorite.
