I asked the price, was told $4.75, so put my credit card on the touchpad for payment. I expected the total to be around $5.20 (tax + CRV) so was a little stunned when I was told it was over $6... conveniently AFTER my chip had been read. The clerk simply stated there was a $0.75 'debit card' fee (I payed with credit), and that all the stores in the area charge it. There is NO SIGNAGE ANYWHERE on the CC terminal, on the walls, on the door informing customers of the charge. The clerk then refused to refund the amount so I could pay with cash (which I would have done immediately had I been informed there was a fee) stating that they have no way to refund transactions after running them. This is in violation of SB 478. The store HAS TO CONSPICUOUSLY POST any added fees on transactions. Every other store shows the fees requested on the POS terminal. I left the purchase on the counter and will open a dispute with my CC company.
