The centre covers subjects such as law, computer studies, science and the environment, business and management, and social studies. Some people study at the centre as a means of getting onto further courses within one of the university's other Schools, gaining the necessary qualifications to be eligible for full degree courses. Other people just attend to follow a personal interest and continue their lifelong learning at an informal community course. Businesses can send staff on CPD courses covering areas such as Lean Thinking, Project Management, Leadership, Communication Skills, Finance, Statistics, Marketing, and Language and Cultural Awareness. If you fancy learning something new, it's well worth checking out whether this centre offers what you're looking for, as the teaching staff are generally of a good standard.

I took a writing course here, taught by an eccentric novelist who provided practical tips in addition to editing processes I was never privy to when I studied Journalism in uni. I'm quite shy in class, so it was a relief to know we didn't have to share our writing, either - he rightly thought that amateurs commenting on amateurs' work didn't really have much value. Thank God for small favours. The Centre offers day and evening classes to suit those interested in a wide variety of topics, from French classes to Practical Project Management. One, two and three-day courses are available in subjects like Presentation Skills or Islam and Modern Britain. I wish they'd bring back the Film Analysis classes, but I understand with all the rampant budget cuts, we should be grateful they're still running Humanities courses at all!

For example they run courses such as 'computers for kids' For children aged 6-11 years , 'French for children' ages 5-11 and a drama academy for children also aged 5- 11. There is in addition many courses for adults. Under arts and crafts there is pottery, glass painting, and copper jewellery and many others. In other departments you can learn belly dancing ( if you are in to that! ) and Yoga, creative writing, cooking, sign language, Spanish, French and German. Basic photography, computing and many others The building also has a fully equipped sound studio that you can hire with a qualified audio engineer for £25 an hour. Also in the building is housed the local public library with the free use of computers This is only a brief outline of the activities that the centre provides . There is a free car park quite often very full . But I have always managed to find a place. .There are also other interesting activities at the centre For example on January 21 at 2pm Helen Charles the youngest survivor of a torpedoed world war two ship recounts her experiences' being rescued from the ship. Finally there is no group that can replace ABBA, They were unique, but I am told the group 'BJORN BELIEF' come very close in simulation . They are performing at the centre on Friday 6 th February The bar is open at 7.30pm and after the performance there is a 70/80's disco That's one I will not miss! To see what other goodies you are missing log onto their web site. Or if you want to ask about classes the email address is llcreception@campwsgartholwg.org.uk or phone them (as above)

But, the actual fact of the matter is that there is one unifying sub-theme to all of their endeavours... the environment and its understanding and, perhaps more importantly, its preservation. Even the mini festivals were a platform for the delivery of information pertaining to eco-concerns, with a programme of workshops scheduled over their weekender events, as well as guided tours of the grounds, including a whistle-stop tour of all of the wind generators, solar tracking array units and biomass burner, as well as a visit to the permaculture garden. As well as being an impressive outdoor art space, and exhibition venue, replete with a woodland art trail, and various workshops where artisans apply their crafts, working in wood and stone, and artists realise their inspirations, often using recycled and sustainable materials, Coed Hills is also a living breathing experiment in sustainable living. There are about ten people living at Coed at the moment. Each of them contributes to the upkeep and running of the centre. Courses held there already this year include a really ambitious Forrest Gardening workshop that has taken place in stages, allowing for seasonal changes, and there's a wind turbine making workshop coming up in a couple of weeks.... Coed Hills is as inspiring as it is unconventional. For more information about what goes on there it's probably best to visit their Facebook page... or you could always try the website...

The centre grows food following permaculture principles and is working towards self-sufficiency in energy production, and visitors can learn all about ecological land use and renewable energy sources. Open from 10am until dusk all year round, the entry fee is nominal and visitors can explore the renowned 80-acre woodland sculpture trail. On site there's also some goats and chickens, Rahni's Cafe, Starfish Healthfoods, a Summer Craft Shop, and a disabled access path. The centre doubles up as a unique conference venue with artists' workshops, gallery space, and green woodwork facilities, too. I've never been anywhere else quite like it, and with Cardiff only 20 minutes drive away it's well worth a visit if you live in the city.
