Upon arrival, we were greeted by a gentleman who was sharing business cards of Barn Attic and kindly offered us a brief summary of the barn since this was our first visit. Every where you look, the place is beyond filled with everything imaginable. Magazines, beautiful furniture, vintage decor, clothing, jewelry, trinkets, toys, collectibles...the quantity is truly amazing. The prices seem fair, some a little high but these items are mostly one of a kind. A very friendly lady, who was the owner of Barn Attic, made sure to offer help if needed and we were grateful ~ it is a huge place and there is so much merchandise, some being housed in boxes atop the display cases ~ there would be no way of knowing all the secrets this marvelous store keeps hidden unless asking. read more

As an individual stated, from the moment we entered we were hounded incessantly, we will not be returning, although they may have had something we would have purchased the badgering as to what we were looking for was ridiculous. What a gem! I came in looking for something very specific and the owner very impressively showed me all around to the items located in different areas of the barn. Everything is impeccably neat and organized but it helps to know what you are looking for before you head in because there is sooo much stuff that it's easier just to ask than wonder around. I drove past the Barn Attic yesterday and turned immediately around to go in and poke around: I am SO glad that I did. I spent 3+ hours exploring all 4 floors which are absolutely PACKED: mad props to the clothing selection, and a special shout out to vintage greeting cards (Secretary Day FTW!), beautiful antique lamps, and stacks upon stacks of complete vintage dining sets. I came away with 12 items for $95 (just clothing and jewelry, I wasn't furniture shopping). As the owner told me, this is NOT a thrift store, and she is right: it is way better. I found the owner quirky, entirely pleasant, and exceedingly helpful and patient. Other reviewers are correct, she will greet you and give you the rundown on what's available in her barn and try to give you an idea of the scope and volume of what she has (which is a lot ... I can think of only a few places that might rival the clothing options here, and I have never in all my days seen so much jewelry in one place, ever). She came upon me in the lower level of the barn, where a huge selection of amazingly organized vintage clothes live. She let me know they measure and organize all dresses and skirts by the waist size and showed me where I could find the wall-mounted tape to get my measurements. Being a bigger girl as far as vintage shopping goes (modern size 12, top to bottom) this way of organizing the pieces meant everything I picked to try on fit me. Literally EVERYTHING. All 18 pieces I tried on. This was an unprecedented first for me. The items I came away with were reasonably priced (between $4 and $10 an item). The more unique or on-trend the item, the more you'll pay. I scored a tortoise statement necklace for $30, something we sell at the pricey retail store at which I work at part-time in the city for a whopping $88. Whoever says the clothing is overpriced simply has not yet taken the time to go through the considerable inventory carefully, I found a TON of reasonably priced and thoroughly unique items. Perhaps this is because I'm used to shopping in Philadelphia where I pay more for items that are hand-picked, transported, and marked up from places like Barn Attic. Not only are the clothes a total steal for how one-of-a-kind they are, they were not at all picked over like they are in the shops of Philadelphia or NYC. Some things you can find yourself, but the owner knows where absolutely everything is and will point you in the right direction with unfailing accuracy. She assisted me with 10+ cases of jewelry, helped me shuffle and explore through trays upon trays of vintage and vintage-looking jewelry (organized by color, the perfect way to shop for costume jewelry in my opinion). I asked, and the owner isn't interested in selling her inventory online and shipping to customers and clearly enjoys interacting with anyone who wanders in. If you can't handle this kind of old school personal service, shop vintage finds on eBay, which I have done many a time. With online vintage shopping be prepared for things not to look like you thought they would or fit the way you'd hoped (or even fit at all). I defy you to find a vintage shop as organized, fairly priced, with a staff that's willing to actually assist you ANYWHERE in a metropolitan area. This is a one-of-a-kind, wondrous place to explore. My husband and I frequently check out antique stores. We finally went to the Barn Attic since it's local. As soon as we walked in the door a woman approached us and gave a talk about what to find on each floor. We told her we are just looking at everything and nothing in particular. The owner kept coming around asking us questions which is very annoying and unnecessary. If we need help we know what to do. I lost interest after this happening 3 times, a word of advice to her would be just leave people to browse on their own. She literally drove us out of the place! I would not recommend or return due to her pushy nature. read more

I had been meaning to stop into this store for some time, but due to limited hours and time, it was hard to find a time when they were open. As soon as I got there, the owner found me (among the maze of narrow aisles on the main floor) and parroted off her introductions and told us about what merchandise is on what floor, gave us her business card, told us that we should ALWAYS call ahead, because her hours fluctuate a lot, etc. She seems nice, but this long-winded speech she gave us seemed disingenuous, and was kinda annoying. Once she was done her welcome speech, she did leave us alone and let us shop without interference. We found her prices for most things to be higher than we were willing to pay. She's very organized in some ways (there is SO much stuff, so you almost have to be), but it's just very hard to get around that place, and with SO much stuff, it does become hard to find or get to the items you want. We were particularly looking at dishes and breakable kitchen items, and she's got them stacked to wazoo, and in that cramped space, we were very reluctant to move anything for fear of breaking something in the process. For this reason, I'd be hesitant to return. Seemed like more trouble that it was worth, considering the prices were not that great to begin with. Also: NO PUBLIC RESTROOM. This is always a huge downfall for me. There is a gas station restroom down the hill/corner of the street, so you could walk down there within 5 mins, but still... a store with no public restroom loses major points with me, particularly one of this variety which could take hours to go through if you were really "on the hunt" for something. read more

i went in to find vintage looking pieces for my new house. i like to think of myself as a bit artsy fartsy, so i appreciate different looking types of furniture... so i was sure that i would find something unique at the Barn Attic. I was very, very wrong. First, the woman that owns it is very sweet, but as soon as I came in, she bombarded me with literally 5 minutes worth of her talking and explaining what was in the store (like I couldn't see, its all out in the open). She asked me what I was looking for, and when I described a general style, she promptly showed me things that looked NOTHING like i was talking about... and they were falling apart to boot. Now, I'm all up for a renovation and refurbishing... but the PRICES were absurd for things that need a good bit of TLC. I could've gone to a big name place and bought brand new for just a tad more money. Basically, I looked around the first floor and was so disappointed, I didn't want to waste anymore of my time... I have been shopping at the Barn Attic for 30 years. Many times I have purchased theme pieces, antiques, or even retro pieces to design a room in my house around. I do miniatures and they have many pieces that fit with my room boxes and dollhouses. Both miniature furniture and many collectible items that fit with the theme of various room boxes that I make. The collectibles could also be used as children's or adult's gifts that they have hundreds of display cases including ones that revolve around themes from A to Z, (Cats and dogs of all kinds to zebras, or any other "Z"). I also go there several times a year to stock up on jewelry and accessories. They have costume jewelry to estate things, whatever you want to spend. I have purchased used clothes from there to put together costumes for Halloween and plays. At Christmas often one of my children or myself ask for a gift certificate for The Barn Attic, there is something for everyone! It is just fun, go with a friend and to lunch afterwards and you have a grand day. read more

Really neat place and very well organized but just cannot return knowing that the owner will be hounding us from the moment we walk in. A shame as would be fun to really look but she constantly is returning and asking questions, giving instructions, etc. Very unsettling. I read all the reviews- which largely all say the same complaint- and the replies indicate that they are addressing this issue and yet.....I found the same exact experience. I have been to this place twice in the last 6 months, once looking for a buffet and once looking for a vintage dress. Both times I bought nothing. Not only are her clothes ridiculously over-priced- but she doesnt even have nice quality items to warrant the prices. Im talking $15 for a men's top from the 80's, $12 for worn aprons, $20 for plain black shoes from 1995. When I went I found 2 vintage dresses from the 50's, yes thats right- 2. I really dont get her pricing procedures, and WHO pays these prices. Same goes for the furniture, $400 for a buffet in not that great of condition. After reading a few of the reviews, the only reason I can think they would complain about The Barn Attic's prices, is that perhaps they believe it is a thrift store. It is not. It is a huge collection of modern and vintage, the best in the area. Mary Lou is very passionate and knowledgeable about her products, and loves to talk about them. There are times I've gone in and been in a hurry, all I ever had to say was, "I've gotta go!" and she rings me up and I'm on my way. I never leave empty handed. A great place to find hight quality vintage items in excellent condition at competitive prices. Great service and knowledgable staff. The Barn Attic rocks! read more

I was so intrigued to check this place out but was greatly disappointed. The lady has this lengthy introductory spiel about every room that is just overwhelming. The racks and racks of clothes in the basement are grossly overpriced. So is the furniture. Basically the prices reflect that of a high end antique store although the lay out reflects that of a thrift store which she makes clear, it is not. There is just way too much in there to even find anything. I walked away with nothing. Too much stuff, too much information and too high of prices! She needs to reel it all in. read more

The Barn Attic is a WONDER. If you've ever seen the show "Hoarders" (not purposefully of course, more of a flipping through the channels deal, and if you land on it you linger a few minutes before changing-- admit it, it's fascinating.), these women are what all subjects on that show aspire to be. Hundreds of thousands of items from a-z, clothes and jewelry, antiques, furniture, housewares, and collectibles all impeccably organized and archived both in house and in the brains of the owners. If you are looking for something specific, allow them to impress you by taking you without a moment's hesitation to the exact 3 square centimeters where you will find your porcelain sombrero-wearing zebra figurine, or your hammered copper brontosaurus hair-clip. Those are just examples but I seriously wouldn't be surprised to find them there. The place is like an overstuffed museum. Prices vary greatly; some items are unique and are priced higher, some are just plain overpriced but if you have time to root around you can often find a good deal. The Barn Attic is great for finding interesting gifts, accessorizing for a special occasion, playing dress-up...have fun! In the winter the place is unbearably cold, either bundle up or skip it! I. Love. This. Place. It's like finding buried treasure. I could spend literally weeks in there finding gorgeous vintage products and reasonably priced merchandise. Modern things don't withstand the times like vintage things. The people who work there have things organized even though it may not feel that way walking in. I love antique shopping and the people you meet are half the fun. Boy, oh, boy was I WRONG! We stopped in to see what this place is all about yesterday. Well, it looks cool but everything we saw was way overpriced. My son is interested in HO trains. He picked out a "dummy" engine that was marked $20, the same price that was on the motorized engines. Dummies normally cost the same as regular train cars, because they are not motorized. My son asked the woman at the register if she would consider $10 for it (he was prepared to go as high as $15), and she said there is absolutely no negotiating because the prices are based on what the owner paid for the items. I suppose they never heard of market value at the Barn Attic. There is a lot of junk stuff to look through and everything is too expensive. I've seen the same stuff there each time I visited within a 3 month span. The owner comes off as nice at first but later comes off as condescending and rude. She feels the need to explain every room in the store each time you visit and explains everything as if there is some sort of grandeur about this place. The clothes and shoes are disgusting. There is dust on all the clothes and everything is smelly and overpriced. Most of what is there seems like reject thrift store items. She wanted $30 for a made in china replica vintage bike lamp and two random task lamp springs. Another day she tried selling me a broken bedside GE clock for $10. Also $1000 for a replica Danish desk with Ikea drawer pulls and rotting panels doesn't quite sit well with me. Doesn't seem like I'll ever understand how things are priced here. Upstairs, there are cabinets lining the walls from floor to ceiling making it hard to walk in some areas. If you want to see everything then you' eventually have to resort to crawling on the floor. There is some arguably unique small stuff. Most of which can be bought from eBay for far less coin so again- way overpriced and badly displayed. Also she has everything locked up which is fine, but anytime you want to see something you have to go find her on another floor and then re-find what it was you were looking at. Out of curiosity I called one day to ask if she buys things. She says she's booked into the end of November. I said "Fine, I'd like to make an appointment for your next available date". She asks me what I have. I offered to bring in a 10 panel Japanese hand-painted screen, two Saarinen chairs, a set of 4 Knoll chairs, two chrome Luxo lamps, a Pier One dinette set and a Danish A-Frame dresser- nothing I thought was crap considering she has no classic modern stuff. I was willing to part with stuff either for cash or consignment. I thought she'd jump at the chance to get these things in her barn. Anyway she told me that I cant bring anything in and that she works by appointment only and that she turns down over 40 people a week. (she told me the part about turning down 40 people at least three times). I ask, can I bring a picture or make an appointment farther out then? She then tells me that she is booked into May. I couldn't help but laugh but I say "Fine, lets book something for the end of May." She says wont book anything until May comes. I ask her why and she goes on attempting to makeup some BS reason. At this point I'm thinking maybe she's senile? So after listening to her for a minute, I'm thinking, ok maybe the store isn't doing so well and maybe she just doesn't have money to buy my stuff. I tell her I'd be interested in buying one of her pieces in trade + cash. We go back to square one - She says "I don't do that unless I see what you have." I say well how can you do that if you're booked into May and won't schedule anything with me?" She replies "I guess I can't then- unless you bring me what you have during an appointment after May." I say "What do you buy?" Trying her darnedest to give me attitude she says " Only what the people who have appointments with me bring. Mmkay??" I say "OK,maybe I'll consider bringing some pictures down sometime." She then feels the need to say "Everyone needs money Sir.", implying that I was in some sort of rush. At that point I didn't want to get on her level or become profane so I decided to end the call. Before I completely pulled the phone away from my ear, I could hear her really making an effort to push my buttons. I won't be bothering with this place anymore. read more

Just moved to the area and was hoping to find some vintage furniture for our place. From the street it looks great but inside you enter the hoard. The owner is pleasant but extremely chatty, explaining the shop in explicit detail until your eyes glaze over. The first floor is a hot mess of stacks and stacks of furniture. There doesn't seem to be a single piece you can see all sides of. All of it seems really over priced. Quite disappointing. read more

I think some of the negative reviews touch on the truth but are a bit extreme. The woman is a bit chatty and likes to give the low down if you've never been there before. She is a bit sales oriented but I would not say extreme. I felt most prices were on the high side. There is lots of interesting furniture but nothing in great shape and it is hard to see everything easily. It is *not* a thrift store but you might feel that way when you walk in - at first. If for no other reason, go to see how so much can be fit into this space. It is fairly well organized with plenty of lighting and it's fairly clean in there. The one major drawback is no heating or air. I would not go in the hottest or coldest months myself. read more

We have visited the barn attic 5-6 times with and without kids and have found our experience highly disappointing the majority of the time. As previous reviewers have stated, the owner comes across sweet at first but eventually becomes annoying and rude. On one occasion I was looking at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures with my son and was going to buy one until the owner took them out of our hands and said they were not for children as she proceeded to put them away without asking if we were finished. There are some unique pieces throughout the barn but unfortunately most, if not all, are extremely overpriced for the poor condition they are in. The overpriced merchandise along with the poor customer service, give the impression that they don't want to sell anything, and most times we have left without buying anything. My fiancé and I were horribly let down by the complete lack of organization and shopability of this place. It is confusing, disorienting and waaaay over-priced ($85 for a rusted, dented bread bin or $200 for a run of the mill, pine dresser?). The women who work there try to be pleasant and cute but just wind up being overwhelming and offensive. They actually insulted my fiance by telling her that the engagement ring I bought her was bound to break and seemed cheap while I was standing next to her....and in front of a case of costume jewelry. Not very appropriate and I might add that the woman is not a jeweler. The ladies working there wound up sounding like they know what they're talking about and don't actually want you to buy anything they have managed to horde. I was offended numerous times by the two women working there. We will never visit again and I suggest you don't waste your time. It's worthless. read more

Before reviewing the Barn Attic I read all the previous reviews to see what other people thought. I agree with a few of the comments. The folks that said this store is grossly overpriced is are correct It is definitely not a thrift store in the sense that you'll walk out feeling like you got a great deal....you won't. The first floor is furniture. Most of the furniture is way beyond my means. And we're talking about stuff that is not in perfect condition for the most part. The downstairs is all clothing....there's a pretty large selection but i am not paying $15 or more for a t-shirt, and I guess you can imagine how much a sweater, dress, or pair of pants will run you. As you can see I don't care much for the furniture or clothing departments. I actually give them one or two stars. But I LOVE the top floor, which is made up of china, glassware, pictures, lamps, doo dads, and lots and LOTS or other stuff too much to mention! Someone mentioned there is alot of jewelry here....that's an understatement! The jewelry department alone is worth coming in for a visit! It's jewelry for days! Yes, this floor is probably overpriced as well, but I'm more willing to pay extra for a piece of jewelry than I am an article of clothing, that's just me. But the selection is outstanding and I give the entire third floor five stars. Three stars average for the entire store. read more
