My daughter and I spent awhile upstairs in the kid's area. They have some cute plastic food toys with a kitchen attached to the wall. Even though she's older that kept her entertained for quite some time. The staff were very nice and had fun chatting with her. The pickup area for books was very organized. Their bathrooms were also clean. My ONLY complaint was parking. We got there very early and parked on the East side of the building no problem. Later when we had to go get lunch their parking lot was full. We found they had additional parking on the West side but they were also full and the streets were packed. I know it was a Saturday, but I can imagine it being very frustrating to park. When we were leaving there was someone doing illegal substances in their van next to our car which was concerning to say the least and no I'm not talking about the devil's lettuce I'm talking about harder stuff. That isn't really the library's fault, but be aware of what's going on. I prefer Millard over A.V. Sorenson but it's not terrible.

Not only do we receive books much more quickly that often required weeks or months of holds at the Omaha library, the staff is incredibly friendly. As they transition to being in a larger facility the main library and children's library are open at two different locations walking distance from each other, and due to staffing are open at alternating times, as long as you know that and check the schedule before heading out it is never a problem. Recently I went to check our books only to be told I had damaged a book. I could hardly speak as I would never damage a book. I didn't see evidence of a sprinkler system and it's just stuff sort of everywhere. Maybe I could see it but it would concern me to store things here if it's not humidity controlled and more fire safe. Additionally, I asked if the people who worked here had any training or formal education in the library sciences or as a historian and was told...they've worked here a long time. Personally, I don't think that rates evidenced by the fact that when one item was requested the wrong thing was supplied and the person Libby...Lilly... something like that had no idea they had pulled the wrong thing and said it would take 24 hours to find the right thing. That seems a bit much for the size operation. She wasn't particularly apologetic either. Didn't seem to care she'd gotten it wrong. There is supposedly a fellow that works there as well but I've not ever actually seen him there. I was told he's a playwright so maybe this is his second job. Not really sure. If you want to be a respected library I think you should be able to catalog and staff so that you can act like a proper library.
It is a small marker that has a prime location at the front of the Cass County Courthouse and…read moreadministrative building in downtown Plattsmouth Nebraska. It has the crests of the military branches nearby. The marker is made with a brick background and has the plaque mounted on it. The marker simply reads, " For those who made the supreme sacrifice And has a list of individuals that have given their life during WWI, WWII, Korea & Vietnam." And it provides a too long list of names. Just behind it, mounted on the wall of the courthouse is another marker, "In honor of the men of Cass County, Nebraska who served in the Great War and in memory of those who gave their lives." It also lists too many names. "Erected and presented through the efforts of the Fontenelle Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, 1922." [Review 11352 overall, 1129 of 2019.]
You will find this memorial in front of the Omaha Police Department Headquarters. There is metered…read morestreet parking and commercial garages within a reasonable walking distance. The memorial is well done and was constructed to honor police officers who served and protected people in the name of safety and freedom. The memorial is the work of John Lajba, who was commissioned by the city to construct the memorial. It was dedicated on Police Memorial Day, May 15, 1993 and lists over 20 names of Officers killed in the line of duty. It consists of 3 bronze sculptures sitting on a tall granite base, a granite slab, and 5 flag poles. The sculptures depict a police kneeling while providing assistance to a young girl that is sitting on the ground. Another police officer is standing and looking down at the officer assisting the girl. They are very detailed pieces and look awesome. It is well illuminated for night viewing and is tastefully and respectfully done. The base that the sculptures sit on has an Omaha Police Badge and an inscription that reads: "This monument represents the men and women of the Omaha Police Department and their families. Since 1887, this organization has served and protected our community in order that we may all live in a free and safe society. It is with respect and appreciation that the citizens of Omaha honor these dedicated people." The tall granite slab to the left of the sculptures, list the names and end of watch of the 25 OPD Officers, the last being in 2013, that died in the line of duty. The 5 flag poles, with the American Flag being in the center serve as the backdrop to the memorial and has the flags waving high, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I like this memorial. It is a small, but fitting tribute to the brave Omaha Police Officers that made the ultimate sacrifice. As with most memorials like this that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
