There's no getting around the fact that the signage for Michael's Express bears a striking resemblance to that of one huge chain of multinational megastores (without wanting to give it away for people who want to play a guessing game, let's just say that the company in question starts with a 't' and rhymes with 'schmesco'). Thankfully, inside it's a fairly decent convenience shop, with well stocked shelves and an above average range of goods on offer, with everything from the usual wares to various brands of shower gels, and pet foods, with good prices to boot (one offer I've seen regularly is three bottles of Echo Falls or Blossom Hill wins for £11).

I bought a total of 45 items for a total cost of £84.02 I used (as always) the smart shop option in which I scanned every item that I bought and had them in two big shopping baskets. When I tried to check out and pay the system wouldn't let me. An assistant came along and said that she needed to check a few items. I have had this 2-3 times before when the rummage through the bags and check 6-10 items to make sure that I hadn't "forgotten" to scan something or was trying to steal something. This time she was told to check EVERY item which involved completely emptying both bags and checking every item and then putting everything back in my two oversized bags. I missed my meeting and worse I was made to feel like a criminal. Had I scanned every single item yes! Was it a good experience- Hell no! Did I feel like a criminal? Yes! Very upsetting- is this level of investigation really necessary?!?!

Sainsbury's is located just on the outskirts of Swadlincote town centre. It has a petrol station,…read morerecycling facilities and a decent sized car park. Not the biggest Sainsbury's, but it is due for an expansion in the near future, which will see the demise of the local Home Electric shop, as the store expands and the petrol is moved to improve access. The store although fairly small, has a good variety of products including a fruit and veg section, a meat and fish counter, a bakery and a delicatessen area. The store is well set out and always well stocked and tidy, which is the main failing of other local supermarkets. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the shopping experience is pleasant and relaxing. This Sainsbury's also has a small cafe area, with a variety of seating, including leather sofas. It has a small, but tasty selection of food and cold drinks. But I don't know what they do to the hot drinks, the coffee and tea taste so bad, they are barely drinkable! This is probably my favourite supermarket and we go in valiantly trying the coffee every week in the vain attempt it will get better, but it doesn't. In every other aspect this is a five star supermarket, but the hot drinks could be so much better.

I don't come here often as I don't drink but I have been here a couple of times with my mates. They always come here to buy different beers and never have they been disappointed. To be honest I would rather go to a pub and have a pint rather than drink from a can. That's me just being weird. The staff working here are excellent with their customers and you can talk to them about anything from weather to sport or even about the news. If you do like your various drinks, then Drinks World is for you. There are bargains to be had here but do try and drink responsibly. A decent place to buy drinks from and I know I would come here regularly if I did drink.

I have been in a couple of times when I have been in Harborne. The chap who works there or who owns it seems really friendly and chatty. Several times he has made small talk with me, which is nice as it makes me want to pop back in here. I have always found what I needed in here, which is usually just some chocolate and something like milk to take back home. The prices are fairly reasonable for a convenience store and I have been to more expensive stores in the area. Overall, I like this store because the service is great and it has been convenient for me.

Open from early morning until at least 10pm every night this isn't somewhere you'd travel miles to visit but if you live nearby it's a great place to purchase things like compost or barbeque briquettes. They are also notable for stocking a good range of real-ales, an extensive selection of doggie treats (which get the seal of approval from Dave the greyhound) and the man who runs it is a really nice chap who often compliments us on how well Dave is looking and very much lives by the adage 'the show must go on'. Not only does the shop stay open at Christmas and New Year but perhaps most memorably of all through a recent power cut where thanks to a torch-lit fetching service the people of Northfield Road were able to continue to make their essential purchases of booze, fags and Monster Munch.

The store is also near some of Birmingham's main attractions and it's handy that they have free cash withdrawals! They met my expectations of a convenience store as their products range from basic fresh vegetables to toiletries, pretty handy right? However for an off license they only had a small selection of alcohol. The staff were friendly and gave a casual greeting as I walked in and I could see they were bored they but they were surprisingly chatty when I went to the counter. In this day in age most people are trying to save money and Nisa Local has some money saving deals. When I went there they had an offer to buy two chocolate bars for the price of one. The products in general are quiet cheap as well and it was a relief to know they take card payments with no charge or them saying something like "you have to spend....to pay on card"

This is my regular supermarket and i have always found the staff extremely helpful there…read more On busy days queues can tend to build but i find that extra staff soon open up new tills so that the queues can be bought down. I especially find the george range of clothes very good value and can easily while away an hour looking throught the excellent range of clothing thet have to offer.
