They didn't have a wait so I asked for a trim. So happy I went here. Great service. He hung my coat, sat me down in a very comfortable chair with headrest. He carefully trimmed my beard, around my lips, the neck area, then came with a hot towel, placed it over my beard area while he massaged my head and forehead. He then brushed my neck with shaving lotion and with a straight razor he carefully shaved my neck, around my ears, my nostrils, and around my cheek bones. He then took a cold towel over my face to calm my pores and skin, he then moisturized my entire face, and put after shave. I went from homeless to a hollywood star. It was 14€ and I wish I could come here weekly.

One of them sat me down in a chair and asked me how I wanted it, we seemed to be on the same page, but since it was a Saturday they got walk-ins asking for a cut, they first said no but then asked the others to wait and the result of this was that the guy cutting my hair was rushing his work. It ended up way too long and I had to tell him, he didn't seem too happy about it but he shortened it anyway, end result was a complete misunderstanding for what I wanted and when I later got home I found a few places that were very uneven, it might just have been one of those days but it was definitely not a nice experience.

However, living in Madrid, my hair was getting pretty long and the situation began to get pretty dire. That left me to ponder: Should I continue walking around town with split ends and scraggly hair? Or take the risk and give a Spanish haircut a try? Girls in Madrid have very pretty hair and I couldn't help but feel envy (and maybe some judgment) being out and about with mine looks as it did, so decided to take a deep breath and try my luck. I centered my salon search in Malasana figuring there are enough bars nearby that I could quickly grab a drink to calm myself after things went wrong. Thankfully, Tamara at LaPeluQueQueria took care of me a-ok and no drink was needed after to wash away my sorrows. She listened to exactly what I wanted, did not try to pull out any curve balls, and was extremely nice all the while. The price was fair and I left more than pleased. I'm happy she was able to restore my faith in unfamiliar hairstylists.

He's a very confident, no-crap kind of stylist who intimidated me at first; consequently, I didn't quite get the cut I wanted the first time (he's the type who will tell you if he doesn't think your idea will work out and has no problem not giving you exactly what you ask for). Despite not getting what I was looking for, I got an immense amount of compliments, so I kept going back. As we got more familiar, each cut was more and more exactly what I'd asked. And the price has always been a predictable 25euro. (I don't know if the price is higher for long hair) Also, I never asked for a style but he always dried and did something nice to my hair after each cut, never charging! He's a little rough with his handling, I remember the first time he washed my hair he ended up washing half the makeup off my face, but in the future I asked him or his colleagues to be careful and it was fine. They're very relaxed and nice there. I will say that two friends asked for his info because they liked my hair so much, but both left a bit unsatisfied. For some reason he was more conservative with their hair and they didn't feel they got a big enough change. One requested he fix it and he very pleasantly saw her again and gave her a better cut. I will admit though, the highlights didn't look like much!

It was 30 euros for one hour with a woman named Isabella and it was great! She really worked on my knots on my back and was gentle where she needed to be (i.e. neck). I even fell asleep at one point because I was so relaxed. The only thing to note is that the walls are quite thin so sometimes you can hear the music and voices from the salon which can be a bit disruptive but for the price of the massage I can't complain. Also the salon is owned by a really cute and fun gay couple and it seems like their hair cuts are great and totally affordable (when I arrived I saw one of them giving a cut to a guy and it looked pretty good). One of the owners is from LA and can (obvi) speak English which is super convenient as well. I'm very tempted to get a trim before I head back to California!
