I have been going to Barber Walter's for a few years since moving to the Boston burbs, and I haven't looked back! I had been going to the same barber for probably 7 years in the city, and it was hard to find a new one since moving west. I actually continued to drive into the city for my cuts for about a year (eek!) until I was pointed to these guys, and they are great! I've had cuts with both Travis and Christian and they are both super skilled at their craft. Street parking is super easy in Wellesley and I love the aesthetic and vibe of the shop. Such a hidden gem. Full service barbershop with 5 star service a rarity these days. Set with an old school vibe to tie it all together. Even the music is on point! My husband met with Christian Lopez and what a professional. Although he was skeptic to try a new shop Christian delivered from the precise shave to the haircut! Conversation was not forced and even gave us a couple new dinner spots to try in the area.(Just moves here from Utah). This is a great barbers shop right in Wellesley Square. I love the vibe of the shop. It is beautifully kitted out in natural wood, with vintage barbers chairs and a curated group of objects like typewriters, nordic skis, a sewing machine and an encyclopedia. There is also a bowl of pine cones, which i'm confident you won't find at any other barber shop in Wellesley. (Lastly and importantly, a large map of Wellesley on the wall. From my perspective maps are the very best thing to adorn your walls with, a design philosophy my wife will tell you I follow myself.) I learned that Walter the head barber has been cutting hair for a number of years and his skills were apparent. He clearly treats the work with care, and is very focused on the client experience. He's also an extraordinarily personable fellow. Overall a highly enjoyable 45 minutes, down to the eclectic mix of videos showing including cooking shows and music documentaries. I just had my first professional haircut in over a year, with Cristian at Barber Walter's. It was comfortable and felt safe, with both barbers and the only other customer wearing masks and spaced far apart. I look and feel a lot better, and will definitely go back. While most of the reviews mention Walter, he doesn't seem to be there anymore. But comfort isn't sacrificed and you feel immediately at home (big screen TV so you don't miss the game!.) But the most important part is the cut. He doesn't try the latest styles on you (although I'm sure it would look great if he did) but gives you the best possible version of the cut you want. I scheduled an online appointment with Walter weeks ago for 12:30pm today. Walter called me at 10:00am asking if I could change my appointment to tomorrow because he had a potential conflict. Normally I'd be ok with this but I told him I had secured child care literally for the only reason of getting my haircut today. So, he said that he could honor my original appointment. I arrived at 12:20pm and waited until 1:10pm and he simply never showed up. I called and text messaged him with zero response. Still even now, 6 hours later, no response. I was really hoping to love his service, but the terrible first impression and poor communication ruined it. Further, I was telling this story to a local friend today and he laughed because a similar thing happened to him with Walter. Coupled with his other similar one star review, this seems to be his m.o.: poor time management, disrespectful of other people's time, and not owning his mistakes. This is the best barber shop around, hands down. Walter is a true master of his craft, and really knows how to bring about an authentic barber shop feel. Straight blade, with warm shaving cream and a tea tree scented hot towel really add to the experience. This was my second time in and I couldn't even believe what happened. First visit was great, nice haircut, good conversation. Second visit, I was asked to get out of the chair and leave for something that I said about Juuls... I believe he said it was because I said that I'm not a user and used the word "user" as opposed to whatever word is supposed to be acceptable but I'm still not even sure what exactly it was that I said to warrant me being asked to leave even after a 15 minute conversation/argument of me asking what it was that I said. He kept claiming that I was too young to understand and that I should call someone older so he can talk to them and then have them explain to me. I'm a 24 year old college graduate with a Master's degree, I can understand well enough. After arguing about whatever the issue was for 15 minutes I tried to leave and he then agreed to cut my hair... This made me pretty nervous and the only reason I agreed is because I really needed the haircut that day. What happened was extremely unprofessional and something I have never experienced before. I will definitely not be back in unfortunately because I have lost a lot of respect for him. I just can't believe that incorrect terminology, in his opinion, that I used when talking about an electronic cigarette was enough to ask me to leave and deny me service and then also not even explain to me what it was that I said that offended him because I am 24 and he is 40. read more

Someone referred me to Barber Walter's as a nice new barbershop in Wellesley. I've had two instances now where I've made an appointment and it gets cancelled at the last minute. With the first one, I actually arrived for the appointment and the shop was closed (and I waited for 20 min outside to see if someone would come). I talked to the owner (who was apologetic), and then went online again and made an appointment for a week later (today). This morning, I got an email cancelling my appointment without explanation and now I need to find an appointment somewhere else. For a place that clearly values its own time (takes a credit card to hold the appointment and has a policy where they charge you $22 if you cancel you within 24h before), they really don't value or respect the customers time. Barber Walter's is top notch all around. I first started going to Walter when I lived in San Francisco and he had a barbershop there. Fast forward 9 years and by luck I discovered he'd moved to Wellesley and opened a new shop in town. First off -- I live in Boston and now gladly make the trek out to Wellesley every month for a haircut. There are many good barbers, but Walter is a true professional who lives and breathes the trade and takes great pride in what he does, and he does it very well! He's recreated (and improved upon) the classic barbershop atmosphere of his San Francisco location. Antique photos and memorabilia from his family adorn the walls and classic jazz pipes through the speakers. It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning -- getting a haircut and catching up on all the latest movies, TV shows and current events. Walter is a great conversationalist who takes genuine interest in his clients and gets to know them over time. I can't recommend him or his shop highly enough! read more
