there are not enough bad words to describe how incompetent the barber are. I came in and asked for a touch up on the side. but I specifically stated multiple times to "leave all the length on the top" (about 4 inches long". but these retards decided to acceptably buz my hair. Posted a review a couple months ago because I had a great cut from the lady in the business photo. Unfortunately, I went in today and asked for the exact same thing as before. The lady who cut my hair (tattoos and piercings) was very nice, but rushed through it... it came out uneven, choppy, and the back is a disaster. I asked for a taper, and she shaved it down to about a 1 in the back, and when I asked for an actual taper, she said that it was already very short. I'll have to go to another barber to get the whole cut fixed. I don't like writing bad reviews, but when it comes to haircuts, you can't let things slide - it's all or nothing. If you come here, ask for the owner, or any of the people in the picture. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but I felt obligated to after going to Barber Shop 72, I have weird half curly half straight hair that has been a nightmare my entire life. I've grown to hate haircuts because they always look bad I honestly thought that cutting my hair and it looking good was impossible. I went in yesterday and I didn't get the guys name but he restored my confidence in hair cuts and in my hair, the best hair cut I've ever gotten in my life. Looks fuckin amazing, I didn't think it was possible, and for $30?!?! Will be going here for my hair cuts for the rest of my life. Moved to UWS in May 2021, and started looking for a decent barbershop. Didnt really have a regular barber. I enjoy an old-fashioned barber shop that can do a decent hot towel shave. At first, I visited Barber Shop 72 at first because it was closest to me. It is now my regular barber. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and always give me a great haircut. Julie in particular is excellent and does a fantastic job with the hot towel shaves. read more

You can book a time with your favorite barber if you don't like waiting. But the consistently high-quality haircut I get from any one of the friendly barbers makes walking in on my own time schedule the preferable option for me. On a brief visit to New York, I needed a haircut quickly. I stumbled onto Barber Shop 72 while walking near y hotel and stepped in without an appointment. The owner, in particular, was calm, kind, and able to see me immediately. He took a lot of phone calls during my haircut but was calm and kind to everyone who called, too. I was in the process of finding a new neighborhood barber. This place openly takes walk-ins. I stepped in and was seated 5 minutes later. Side note: only takes cash. Service is very good, efficient, and knows exactly how to give you a good cut. I wanted to keep a little length on top while take down the sides. I recommended a 3 on top and a 2 on the sides. The barber recommended if I want to keep it long, we should just use scissors on top to shorten. Sure enough, they were right! As an addition, everyone is extremely nice! I didn't realize it was a cash only place. They were completely understanding and said they will gladly let me walk out to the nearest ATM. I ended up running to the closest Bank of America I could find. You best believe I added a good tip on top of it! read more

Unfortunately I will no longer be coming here due to the unsafe conditions of the entire staff during COVID-19. The other day I came in for a haircut and was SHOCKED to see not one but TWO customers completely maskless. The customers were both receiving haircuts and beard shaves. Excuse me, hello? There is a mask mandate and you're completely not enforcing it clearly to make more $ through services like full beard shaves. They permitted a loud anti-vaxxer in for a beard trim to wander around in the tiny space unmasked ranting and raving about how covid is the flu and it's all a conspiracy theory, spreading his unvaccinated germs to everyone in the shop, then the owner gave him a big hug on his way out. Stay away from these people, they're not interested in public health and safety, and it was the absolute worst haircut ever received, uneven and almost shave on sides and back, nothing like what I asked for-- a trim of the longer style I came in with. Yesterday I made my first visit to Barber Shop 72, and I was most pleased. Finding a great shop in Manhattan is not easy! Barber shops have a vibe, a personality... it's not just about getting a decent haircut. Barber Shop 72 advertises "Walk-In's Welcome" so that is what I did. The shop is busy and popular. It has six chairs, all staffed. The shop is a little crowded, but it's clean and orderly. It's relatively quiet for that many people in a small room. I didn't have to wait-- barber "Art" was available. Art was terrific. He's a rocker guy-- bearded, tattooed, gold earrings-- and quiet and serious, despite the rowdy appearance. I really liked him. And he gave me the BEST haircut I have ever had. (I am truly picky about my haircuts, you trust me on that.) He asked me what I wanted and set to work. The haircut included an eyebrow trim, plus he even shaved the back of my neck... with a straight razor, yet. And below the collar! That is a miracle that has not happened in my personal experience since, what... the 1960's?? I will definitely be back. Art, you da man! read more
