Read about this place online and had to try it out. On a Sunday late afternoon I came by it and there was no one there as it had just opened so that was great for me as I got time alone with the owner/bartender. She was so nice and answered all my nosey questions!
She was from England and her husband from Australia , the name of the bar came from the Aussie term for friend, mate.
It's such a nice chill nicely laid out bar and I loved the bar area and they have ample seating throughout. Great vibe even with no one there but me.
The menu was awesome. Nicely created cocktails. With great ingredients and things I'd never heard of. I love that they served small plates too. Which I wish all bars would! After conversing with her I decided on the Mandaleo , gin, mandarin, thyme and Finnish Arctic wine. It was a pretty color and tastes perfect to what I would normally like. Loved the citrusy part. The thyme too. Great drink. I also got the sampler plate, a portabella mushroom skewer, lemon hummus and crispy smashed potatoes. Also came with nice crispy bread for the hummus. You get to pick your skewer and side. This was a plate of yumminess! The hummus was amazing and fresh made in house. The bread yes so good! The skewer was nice and tangy. And those potatoes are a must. Perfectly crispy and great smoothness inside. The plate was one of the best things I ate in Helsinki.
I loved this cool bar and the owners story . You'll have your come and ask her!
Such a nice find on a quiet street.
