Gelateria Cesare is clearly the best place for gelato in Pavia…read more
The taste and flavours are quite traditional, but the quality is high and prices reasonable (12.5 euro/kg in autumn 2008). My only criticism would be that gelato is slightly too creamy for my taste, but this is often the case, even in better places.
My favorite flavours are Cassata, Caffe, Malaga and Yogurt, but other flavours I tasted were reliable as well. Proprietors are friendly, but difficult to communicate with without knowledge of Italian (still doable if one knows some basic, gelato-related words). Opening hours are inconvenient, with a big afternoon break, which is probably explained that Cesare is not a pure gelateria, but also a small café/bar.
Definitely recommended, worth a trip from Milan (30 mins by train only).
