The young guy took our orders but the bartender spoke better English so she took over. Everyone there was actually super nice to us and we were the only non french people there. We ordered the apple specialty bourbon drink which was amazing and had pieces of real apple in it. After I switched to a classic old fashioned which she made just as good. By the way these are very strong drinks, well worth the $13 euro price tag. A guy then went to the small corner piano and began playing live music on a Wednesday night at 11pm! It was insane and he played some nice Earth wind and fire along with other American classics. It was such a great way to end a long day! I was sitting outside and he came out and asked if I needed another drink, when I said yes please, I followed it up with I have had a rough day. Don't know why I said it, maybe because I needed to vent. He returned with my drink and a kind gesture from the heart. I saw it as a quintessential part of the hospitality business. I don't know how they incorporated the smoky taste to the incredibly fresh, perfectly steamed calamari, but it was tantalizing on the taste buds. We were more than half way done, when our waiter approached, speaking rapid French and looking a little perplexed. Turns out the Plats du Jour don't come with a starter, they were meant for the couple at the table seated behind. I felt a little bad, but very lucky to benefit from the tasty mistake, UNTIL the waiter took the plates away from us, with our forks in our hands. I immediately jumped to the Seinfeld episode with the Soup Nazi, but this time he said, "No FISH for YOU!" 1 minute later our REAL Plats du Jour arrived. They were both really delicious, even if it did cost 45 euros for a lunch for 2.
