Despite its glaring but easily correctable flaws, Bar Bura at Cuatro Cuatros is one of my favorite to visit in Ensenada. The place is 100% about the view-everything else, food, service, drinks, wine, etc is far substandard. The cliff side view is stunning. Tranquil and relaxing is the environment. My previous visit was August 2017 and I was much bothered by the choice of music. A teenager must have gotten control of the stereo equipment because all they kept blaring was gangsta rap music, some of which were riddled with foul and offensive lyrics.
So I made a return visit, my third overall on Aug 19, 2018. The music selection had improved. The profanity-laced gangsta rap was replaced by 80's retro pop music. They no longer charged $5USD to enter the property by car and drive up to Bar Bura. Instead, you had to park near the welcome area then pay $100mx or $5USD per person for a shuttle ride to the bar. The charge includes either a can of soda or a tiny 7oz bottle of Pacifico beer. So the property is raking in $50USD on average for each 5 minute trip up to Bar Bura. The least they could do is offer a full sized 12oz bottle of beer. Instead they choose to embarrass themselves by trying to save 13 cents and offer mini beers. Come on, if you market yourself as an upscale property don't be glaringly cheap. At least offer a standard size beer or a glass of house wine. Exhibiting an extraordinary level of cheapness as a first impression leaves one wondering what other shortcuts they take behind the scenes.
Don't bother ordering food here. Prices are inflated and the portions are minuscule. We ordered the cheese plate and it was comparable to something hastily put together by a supermarket deli. The ceviche was good but portion way too small. Drink prices are high. And a reflection of the stunningly ignorant and incompetent management staff they offer no wine menu. And this is a vineyard we're talking about. You would never know they even offered wine unless you saw others drinking it. I mean, come on, how do you run a wine bar and have no wine menu? If you want wine, you have no time to consider and study the options. You basically have to order on the fly. The waitress will state the names and varietals of the wines available and will expect you to remember them all and order on the spot, with no consideration of vintage, winery, region, price, etc. This bar offers spectacular scenery, but equally spectacular is the profoundly clueless management staff. Their level of failure is simply astonishing. I still recommend a visit to enjoy the view, but don't expect anything above grossly substandard as far as everything else is concerned. read more
